Description: Perched high up between the Piton mountains, The Boucan Restaraunt is open to both residents and non residents. Boucan is The Hotel Chocolat’s own restaurant, where guests can experience Cacao Cuisine. The word “Boucan” refers to the traditional West Indian name for a cocoa drying facility. The restaurant is built on the site of the Rabot Estate’s original Boucan. Boucan is also linked to “boucaneer” or “buccaneer,” the local pirates that would smoke and dry their food to preserve it for long trips at sea. The Boucan offers a strong connection with cacao and chocolate. For over 3,000 years, cacao has been used as a savory ingredient and for 500 as a sweet ingredient. The menu explores both, with the chefs taking their inspiration from the fresh cacao growing all around the estate, together with amazing local fish and seafood, salad leaves, vegetables and plentiful fruit. However the cuisine is far from cocoa heavy. The menu often makes use of cacao as a light, subtle spice or as an infusion. The desserts make full and imaginative use of the estate cacao, with each evening meal rounded off with the day’s new chocolate creation. Boucan’s breathtaking minimalist design includes a soaring roof inspired by the shape of the cacao tree, with its branches reaching to the sky, and shaded by the lush rainforest canopy. Its high platform is a centre stage for the Big Nature views all around.Dining at the Hotel Chocolat's Boucan Restaurant, whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner or the fabulous sundowner cocktails, is an experience to be shared and cherished.We passionately believe we are certainly offering something very different at Boucan. A five course meal with hints of chocolate every step of the way
They even have a chocolate wine, full bodied that goes well with their brilliant steaks

“Great concept executed well”

To have a restaurant that serves food where ALL of it incorporates the cacao bean is pretty impressive. Don't get the impression that everything tastes like chocolate. They utilize the actual bean in many dishes that have no chocolate taste at all. The atmosphere is very nice and it is one of the few places around that doesn't automatically add a 10% service charge a nice change.
We started with the chicken satay and goat cheese appetizers. Both were outstanding. I had the pork for an entree, which was good, but my wife had the best dish...a ravioli that was incredible...and vegetarian for those who care. For dessert, we had a chocolate molten lava cake. It was good but needed more molten and less cake.
A very nice atmosphere with really good food. Definitely worth a trip.

“Great food with an amazing view”

We visited the Hotel Chocolat for a day during our weeks holiday in St Lucia. The restaurant has an amazing view overlooking the Pitons. Staff were friendly and very helpful and gave us the lunch menu. The food when it came was delicious and very well presented. We had 3 courses and each course was fantastic and came with an element of chocolate as you would imagine. I would recommend this restaurant.

“Did not live up to expectations”

We had heard a lot about this place and the concept of chocolate inspired cuisine is something we just had to try. The day we picked for dinner though was bar be wye night - and perhaps that's why the menu wasn't really chocolate inspired.

We had a buffet with of course the bar be que a part of it. The food was ok - but it didn't really meet the high expectations we had set in our mind. The restaurant has a nice and pleasant setting and is def worth going to for a meal. But maybe one is supposed to come on a standard night when the menu is more chocolate-y.

I did look forward to the desserts as I thought those might be amazing. They were good - but it was by no means dominated by chocolate and by no means much to right home about. Left feeling a bit disappointed really.

“Our favorite meal(s) in Soufriere”

High praise here, as Boucan was the site of our favorite dinner(s) on one of my favorite vacations ever. We visited the Soufriere area for 4 nights. Our original plan was to try 4 different restaurants for dinner, but we ended up returning to Boucan for a repeat visit on our final night. First and foremost, the food was delicious. The atmosphere and food have a fine dining feel, but at the same time, you get a lot of value for your money. Dinner is preceded by bread and an assortment of chocolate-related spreads, as well as an amuse-bouche (warm pumpkin soup our second visit - yum). The food is rich, flavorful, awesome. The chocolate theme is integrated skillfully and is not at all gimmicky. But, of course, dessert is a must. (We preferred the Piton meringue dessert that we had on our first night to the molten cake that we had on our second night, though both were tasty). Between the two of us, my husband and I also enjoyed quiche, steak, dorado, and duck. The walk across the way from Ladera is easy (it's super close) but a little dark, so bring a flashlight if you want a little more light. I feel fortunate that we were able to indulge here not once but twice. Highly recommended.
