I was only here for one day en route to another island, but this resort exceeded my expectations. Having read some of the reviews on tripadvisor.com, I was expecting the worst, but I was only staying one night, the price was right and some of the reviews gave me some degree of hope.
My room (a suite with a separate bedroom) was VERY spacious and comfortable - a little tired in spots, but overall still very nice. The bed was firm but comfortable - the bath off the bathroom had recently been redone and was spacious and attractive. I had a large balcony overlooking the hotel's marina and Simpson Bay, with some gorgeous yachts docked right outside.
The location isn't ideal for vacationers looking to beach it in the Caribbean - the Princess Port de Plaisance Resort and Casino is not on or near a beach - it's pretty much a self contained resort with a casino. However, the grounds were very extensive and attractive and do offer some nice views of Simpson Bay. I enjoyed a few hours in the casino and had a great breakfast at Zee Best, one of my favorite breakfast places in St. Maarten (Zee Best has a small cafe right on the hotel grounds).
I wasn't here long enough to really judge how this place would be for a longer vacation, but I definitely would come back here for a short stay anytime.More
