“Great location”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

We used this resort as a base for exploring not as a destination in itself. For this purpose it is a great location. Rooms and grounds where well kept. Our location in building 4 was quiet and had secure parking nearby.

The resort was wonderful. Let me just say it is perfectly located on this Island. The actual resort was very attractive and maintained beautifully. All employees were professional and very friendly. If I ever would go back that is where I would stay again. We did visit the other Diamond resort (Royal Palm Beach) around the corner and it was also nicely located and seemed to be very nice also. We stayed in bldg 3 which is quite a hike up the hill but we had a 2 bd lockoff on the third floor which gave us a ocean view.

This was our first trip to St. Maarten, and we booked the trip through Groupon for our 1st Anniversary trip. Located on Simpson Bay, the waters were calm, the room was clean, well appointed, comfy, and a beautiful view from our balcony. The Toppers Bar had some good happy hour drink specials, but their food was a little pricey for what it was. Our server was happy to let us sample all their rum flavors! Chairs and umbrellas are free to use on the beach, but there weren't enough umbrellas every time we tried to get one, plus the beach area was very small. For a BIG beach we could stroll along, we went to the French side of the island to Orient Bay and we will probably consider staying closer to it for our next trip. Flamingo does provide beach towels, but you have to trade the dirty ones in at the pool to get clean ones, which was annoying the first time since we called the front desk to ask if we needed to bring the dirty ones down and they said "Just come to the front desk for new ones", and then we walked all the way down to the front desk to be told we DID need to bring the dirty towels. Poor communication, especially when we called ahead to ask. The other problem was at check-in. They ask for a credit card for incidentals, which I have no problem with. The problem is that we do not have credit cards and they wouldn't accept my debit card that displays Visa on the front like every other hotel would do. My only other option was to give them a $100 cash deposit, which cut into my spending cash for the trip, on an island where many places only accept cash. For the value, it was a nice room and a great view, but the checking in process, the towel incident, and the small beach area with little available shade left me longing for more. We spent very little time at the resort, so I would suggest if this resort wants to profit more by making guests want to spend more time (and money) at the resort, they need to up their game.

Good location. The place comes with full size kitchen appliances. The AC works great, very clean & modern decor.
They only clean every three days but they provide enough towels & bed sheets to last. There is a $10 per day resort fee. Also check in is at 4 pm & no earlier.

We've been saying at the Flamingo for 5 straight summers now and it never disappoints. Well maintained property in a perfect location for us with very friendly staff. Fully equipped kitchens with separate dining and living space. If you don't have a car there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Casino on site as well as grocery store. For Sint Maarten, the price and quality can't be beat in my opinion. Look forward to coming back

We stayed here 3 years ago and had a great time. When we booked our trip this year to St. Martin, I researched several different hotel options but in the end booked us for another stay at Flamingo. For price and convenience, this hotel just kept trumping every other one I researched.

Pros for us were:
Convenience/location. Flamingo is in a great spot to head out from for a day of exploring. Further, when heading back from dinners in Grand Case, this hotel was easy to return to in the dark. Also nearby restaurants, grocery and bakery.

Beach. The beach is a nice, quiet one with some great snorkeling. Lots of fish, cuttlefish, and an octopus.

Room. We loved our balcony facing the beach. It is worth the extra $30 or so for an ocean-side room. Many of the rooms without an ocean view are not only facing a parking lot, but also have only a window (no balcony).

Amenities. $10.50/day resort charge covers a lot and is a lot cheaper than other hotels. Wi-fi now extends to in-room (3 years ago it was lobby only). Parking is free and plentiful. Laundry is also free (I suggest packing a travel packet of laundry soap).

Cons were few. The hotel needs to work on their staff etiquette. They were friendly and courteous (exception being the male Toppers staff), but housekeeping staff were loud throughout the day. REALLY loud.

The overall mix of guests ran the gamut from young families with small children to older people in wheelchairs and walkers. Not much of a 20-something party scene (thank god), but maybe that depends on the time of the year.

Room Tip: Building 7: even # rooms have balconies.

Flamingo Beach Resort is not the most updated resort I've stayed at with Diamond but the location is really the best thus far.

We're owners so having to wait for our room until after 4:45 p.m. was not a good first impression but the complementary upgrade to a studio ocean view room (requested during pre-arrival), which had the best proximity to everything we needed, made up for it all. Even after receiving our keys and arriving at our room we had to wait while housekeeping finished mopping. We didn't make a fuss, we came in and sat on the balcony until she finished. BUT, I will be honest, that was not good time management on housekeeping's part. Rooms are assigned in advance so switching rooms was not an option. Front desk staff were apologetic.

We could hear the waves crashing from our bed at night (from 4th flr). Toppers (really good food) was just down the stairs. Easy walk to the Peli Deli (VIP discount on purchases here). The beach was never crowded and very clean.

There was an island tour at $22/per via Exquisite Tours and it was awesome. The current day this tour is offered is on Mondays. The Activities Desk staff can assist with where to book this tour (on beach and lobby).

Grounds are well kept and quiet with security guard at entrance after dark. Wifi is free for owners (likely not for guests) but beware wifi on the island is very slow. Also first resort Ive stayed at where laundry detergent must be purchased, no big deal just an observation, we've been to 4 different resorts this year. Besides the wifi this is an awesome resort and we will return.
