My wife and I spent New Year's Eve and 3 more additional nights in Jan '14 at this hotel. Located on the Frontstreet, with major shops at the doorstep of the hotel, HH's staff is great, dedicated, providing excellent service. Breakfast is great and is worth every penny. Location is great if one is taking a cruise ship or a ferry to St. Barths - walking distance. Highly recommend this hotel over others remotely located on the French side of the island. Dozens of taxis in front of the hotel with decent rates. If renting a car... watch out.. paper thin car doors are easily opened by "friends" who broke the car lock with a tool (not even a scratch to the paint) .. camera, cel and other things were taken out of the car, when visiting one of the many beaches on the French side on Jan 1st...
Great restaurants on the French side - better than ones at the casinos.

Room Tip: HH has 4 floors - we had issues of running water on the 4th floor. Maybe the demand for water was to...

This hotel is right on the beach on the Dutch side of St. Martin. Excellent service and prime location to shopping. We stayed one night before sailing, but this hotel would be great for an extended vacation.

Room Tip: Ask for the beach side on the 3rd or 4th floor.

I've stayed here before and have always been happy. this time they surpassed my expectations! yes the new years music was too loud, this was coming from the beach, something new this year. the general manager did get them to tune it down but only after numerous attempts, thank you paul! unfortunately the businesses that sponsored this event, took up half the beach for days setting this up and the bands played until 5:30am, the hotel did supply the guests on the beach side with ear plugs, many thanks for that. the food is great, the rooms are wonderful, and they pride themselves on keeping the place clean and up to date. the new wine bar on the board walk is great, roy and jeff did a wonderful job taking care of those on the beach. with so many wonderful and helpful staff it's hard to remember them all but here it goes. thank you kissy, shirley, ester, vera, david, jess, roy, jeff and all of the wait staff. a special thanks to paul, robert and paul. this place gets a 10 out of 10 from me.

Locating in downtown Phillipsburg, Holland House offered us more than what we expected. The hotel amenities and deco were sublime. When we arrived at the hotel we originally book for the city view of the island, which I would not recommend for that all you will see are droves of cruise ship tourist during the day and roaming locals at night. So we asked for the ocean view. To our surprise, we were offered the penthouse (PH) room #402. I highly recommend paying the extra charge for the ocean view and if possible, try cajoling the front desk to upgrade you to the PH. You will not be disappointed the room reminded me of my stay at the Hotel Vondel in Amsterdam. Keeping in mind St. Maarten is part of the Netherlands and Holland House definitely keep that spirit going. The room décor had a modern, cosmopolitan vibe, which made you feel as if you were in a major city instead being steps away from the Caribbean Sea. The hot tub was an extra bonus. Getting the upgrade is highly recommend for a more enjoyable and spacious stay. This room also overlooks Saba Island and you have fantastic views of the incoming and departing cruise ships.

To our surprise this particular area of St. Maarten shuts down at promptly 1830 hours. Our first night was spent trying to find a decent restaurant and entrainment. Having been informed by the locals, this part of town is dedicated for cruise tourist and everything closes early. Therefore, having a rental car is a must to get around. Word of caution, book the rental car at least 2 days in advanced as they seem to book fast because of the cruise ship tourist. I would not recommend this side of the island for a solo, female traveler as it is quite desolate at night with a great deal of local activities taking place.

If you want to relax and be a beach bum this side of the island is ideal. However, if you seek entertainment I would suggest staying on the other side close to SXM (airport). Riding the fence at SXM is a must for thrill seekers. I highly recommend that experience.

Lastly, I would like to personally express gratitude to the front desk receptionist, Kissy. She made our stay comfortable and she was very welcoming.

Room Tip: Ocean View a must otherwise you will view crowded streets during the day and desolate streets at nig...

I agree with the positive reviews. The hotel is great. All the staff were excellent and friendly.

One issue we had was the constant loud music from the bands that play under the hut in front of the Toulula Mango restaurant on the boardwalk. It's just a few store fronts down from the hotel. They play loudly from about 12:30 PM until the late afternoon. We had to listen to the music while we relaxed on the beach whether we liked it or not. I would have liked a more relaxing afternoon by the beach.

The other issue is that the only thing there is to do is shop or enjoy a water related activity. There is no nightlife after the ships leave port.

Another thing we noticed was the disparity in prices. I paid $3.85 for a local Carib beer in the hotel and $1.50 on the boardwalk. Shop around you will see what I mean.

Select the breakfast option and you won't be disappointed. We had a lovely breakfast every morning while staring out on the Great Bay. Great Dutch coffee and besides the buffet you could have eggs, French toast and pancakes to order.

Room Tip: Get the beach view rooms. It's worth it. There is no swimming pool. Don't rent a car unle...

We are here for our second visit and it is even better than we remembered. We made the mistake of booking another hotel just down the street which turned into a nightmare very quickly. We left there and checked in here the following day and everything has been wonderful. Don't be fooled by a lower price because here you definitely get what you pay for. The staff is super attentive and the accommodations are wonderful. We had a beach front room and enjoyed views of the bay from sun up to sun down. If you want a truly wonderful experience in St Martín this is your hotel

Room Tip: Fourth floor Ocean front. 401 was great. Large balcony with wonderful views
