Description: Fasten your seatbelts for fun in the sun! Sunset Bar & Grill is St. Maarten's most popular beach bar and it's easy to see why. We are right on a beautiful white sandy beach, but also right at the end of the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport. Where else can you enjoy an ice cold beer as a huge KLM Jumbo Jet soars right over your head?

“Fun place- great views, good food.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

I think this is a "don't miss" experience on St. Maarten. You have to watch the planes land up close and catch a beautiful Caribbean sunset there. The service and the food were good too, nice crowd of patrons including families with small children. Not a place where you spend time at the beach- Maho is strictly about the sunset and airplanes but it's great fun and you'll get some amazing photos.

“Best location for watching the infamous plane landings & takeoffs in St. Maarten”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Decent food (mostly American fare) & drinks served where you can also watch the infamous airplane landings & takeoffs while enjoying some shade from the harsh Cariibbean sun. They post the timings on the 'surfboard' sign (most of the larger planes landings are between (11:00am to 2:30pm).

Then head over to the beach right there for a cool & refreshing dip! At night, the restaurant changes over to a club type nightspot.

“Good place to watch the planes come in”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Usually crowded and noisy. Drinks are okay. Food is mostly fried stuff. Grouper fingers were overcooked. BBQ chicken was good and there were 3 pieces. No onsite parking. Have to park at the casino and walk over. Fun festive atmosphere. And naturally the best part is watching the planes come into SXM.

“Lots of Evolution Here”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

At first this was a great, funky little place at the edge of the airport runway and beach where you could sit for hours, drinking, eating, laughing, and watching the folks on the beach go crazy when planes came in or took off. Then it began to achieve worldwide recognition thanks to viral videos. Now the owners have built it out to many levels and added a lot of variety to the menu. They're selling souvenir t-shirts at $25 a pop and playing techno music on the sound system. There are no ashtrays on the table, but that doesn't stop the clueless smokers from flicking ashes on their plates or the floor and fouling the air all around. Uniformed attendants sock you for a few bucks just to park your car in nearby spaces.
The great, funky little place has gone upscale. That's not always a good thing for the customers.

“Decent food, great atmosphere and views”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We stopped in here for the same reason everyone does, to watch the planes come in. If you want to spend some time at the beach and watch the planes come in this is where to go. They have all of the arrival and departure times on a surfboard for you to see. You can rent chairs right outside the restaurant.

The food at the restaurant is pretty much your typical bar food. Burgers and sandwiches that are all good but nothing amazing. The prices are decent for St Martin and the view of the planes coming in is well worth making the trip here for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon drink.

If you haven't seen the planes make it a point to stop by here. Run on to the beach for a take off or landing and when you get sick of being sandblasted go back inside/on the porch for a drink.
