Description: Fasten your seatbelts for fun in the sun! Sunset Bar & Grill is St. Maarten's most popular beach bar and it's easy to see why. We are right on a beautiful white sandy beach, but also right at the end of the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport. Where else can you enjoy an ice cold beer as a huge KLM Jumbo Jet soars right over your head?

A trip to St. Maarten is not complete without a stop to the Sunset Beach Bar. Everything you've read about the planes coming in so close is true. You will never hear plane noise the same way. Beers were overpriced but the t-shirts were great and the food looked decent. Hang out on the beach and beautiful water, enjoy the planes, grab and beer and a t-shirt here and call it a day.

We went here our first night in St. Maarten...the food was good and the view excellent. It was fun to watch the planes come into the airport! It's a "must do" while here.

This little beach bar gets SOOO crowded when cruise ships are in cuz everyone wants to come and get buzzed by the huge jets coming and going from SXM airport. You HAVE to experience it once if you visit.

Sunst beachbar: nice place to have drinks and watch the airplanes coming in. The food is simple and not very good. Everything is just greasy and made to serve fast. Nothing wrong with the bartender and drinks.

We got off the Carnival Valor and took a shared cab/shuttle from port directly to sunset beach around 8:45 in the morning. Cost was $8/person one way.

Arrived at the beach which has a restaurant/bar with wifi. Approx 20min cab ride, at this time of the morning - not much traffic.

You can rent a chair/umbrella on the beach for $5 each....so $15 for 2 chairs and umbrella. The beach is quite small but has nice soft sand and not many rocks. There are a few decent sized waves so you will need to keep an eye on small children.

The beach got crowded by 11:00 and the traffic coming in and out is non-stop on the single lane going each way and people walking along the "wall" and sometimes on the road. It is a bit of a gong show and not a beach to visit unless you are strictly going to see the airplanes.

My husband had a beer at the bar for $3 and the kids had a couple pub style appys which were ok (chicken wings and mozzarella sticks).

It was neat to see one time and would suggest arriving around noon. The larger 737's and international flights usually arrive/take off mid to later in the afternoon.

Plan to spend only 2-3 hours here but worth a visit. You can say, "I've been there" when you watch the utube videos on line!
