Atrium Beach Resort and Spa

I agree with stixx3 - RCI needs to go back and review it's standards. Three years ago we came to St. Maarten and stayed further up the hill at the Pelican Resort - which is now called the Simpson Bay Resort... we liked the Pelican/Simpson Bay newer buildings 100% more.
The Atrium was ok...furnishings were adequate, but bathroom was dated, there were no light outlets inside the bathroom - they could only be turned on from in the hall (?).
The cooking area was nice - and also had a space to sit on the stools and eat - but it had a "hood" over the burners and the first night we were there, my husband stood up and cracked his head on the edge of the hood. It did start bleeding, but not enough that we felt he needed stitches.
The bedroom was also just ok - the air conditioning would cycle on and off throughout the night - but it would click and THUMP just before it cycled down. About 2 minutes later it would cycle on (that was ok), but then 5 minutes there would be another click and THUMP. I ended up having to get some earlplugs to see if that would help. I'm a light sleeper so any noise wakes me up.
The balcony area was small and with the type of air conditioning units the buidling uses, it forces the hot air out - which is good - but it forces it out on the balcony! We rearranged the table and chairs to be able to sit out there an enjoy the view - but it was too hot.

Pros: Close to so many restaurants, bars and some shops. Staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Beach is close. Pool, although small, is nice.
Cons: Won't come back to the Atrium again. See above.

Room Tip: Unless there are newer, updated rooms --- pick someplace else.

I have been visiting this island for many years. The majority of that time has been spent at this resort. Having had an opportunity to look around at other properties, I would still recommend the Atrium hands down! The new decor is beautiful and has a very happy feeling. The staff has always been outstanding and friendly.

Room Tip: "Views of the marina are awesome"

We booked here because of its Gold Star rating but honestly RCI needs to go back and review Gold Star standards. The resort is located right off the Main Street which provides easy access to eateries by foot. We used a dive shop that was within walking distance so that worked out perfect.

The room itself was ok. It overlooked the pool but there are so many trees that our view over the ocean was hindered. The couch and chairs are more for look than comfort in the family room. The kitchen was basic with no kitchen towels to wipe down clean dishes. We went through paper towels to clean counters and sink. The bedroom was ok. The bed wasn't very comfortable based on our preference and one of the lamp shades was stained pretty bad. The bathroom was as basic as the kitchen and the shower had enough hot water power to rinse a small dog. We were happy with having hot water so move on.

The amount they charge to have the weekly room service is poor. They come in daily to provide towels and change garbage. Don't expect anything else. On the one day they do tidy up they add making the bed pretty and rinse of any dishes. It was pretty bleak service.

The orientation they hold for their guests to provide an insight to some of the local restaurants and retailers was ok. The front desk staff were kind and helpful but the activities girl was less then impressive. We got more activities through the people on the street then the resort.

Bring lots of cash because we found that most of the time card was not accepted especially traveling to the various islands. We did not rent a car and it had its adv and disadv. We used the bus system a lot and used taxis to Orient Bay.

If we come back to this island we will not use this resort for our stay.

We recently visited our timeshare in St. Martin. The island is beautiful and the people were friendly. The resort is clean and well maintained. The staff was helpful and friendly. The area is secure. I would not hesitate to return. The convenience of bars and restaurants is wonderful. The beach is a very short walk to the beach. The hotel is not on the beach but only separated by the pool area. The fence leads to the beach and very convenient. This resort is also within walking distance of multiple bars/restaurants as well. We were very happy.

Room Tip: 1) request quieter air conditioned rooms if droning noise bothers you. 2) request view of the bay f...

BEWARE!!!!!!! This hotel is NOT beach front at all and the access to the beach is on the main road so NOT safe at all for kids. Only some rooms have a beach view and the rest have a view of a carpark overlooking the dumpster behind the grocery store on the main road. Our master bedroom had ONE window that overlooked onto the inner corridor right by the elevator doors where noisy people stand and wait for the elevator The staff are totally inconsiderate if you have a timeshare booking. We walked in and two hours later walked out and moved to another hotel. I will never be back to this hotel and I will never recommend it to the many travellers I am in contact with. NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Only one side of the hotel has rooms with a view of a nearby beach.

We really love the resort and even more so now that the renovations are done. Although we enjoyed our first stay there we did feel it was very dated. The resort now feels current and "fresh" and the colors are so lively. The people are so friendly and I love that the resort is more on the "smaller" side. It's not too busy and it's well maintained. We look forward to going back soon!!

Room Tip: Unit 501 is awesome!

We have stayed at this hotel many times and have never been disappointed. I don't understand when people say that this hotel is not on the beach. It definately is and on a beautiful stretch of beach. Rooms are large and clean. My husband can walk to his dive company and there are many resturants within walking distance. We will be staying here again in November for 2 weeks, and can't wait. We have another couple joining us the second week and can't wait to show them the Atrium and all the island has to offer.
