“A Great Place To Stay”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

There really is nothing negative I can say about our stay at the Simpson Bay Resort. The staff was great and very helpful. I was traveling with friends and we had two different units. When we checked in we discovered that we were far apart from each other as this is a huge resort and very spread out. We were staying for 7 days and had one rental car and wanted to be close to each other. We asked if one of us could switch rooms. Without any hesitation, the staff member that was checking us in got on the phone and tried to get us closer. This took about 15 to 20 minutes of her time and she was pleased to help us the whole time with a smile on her face. Although we were not able to change rooms because they were all booked, it was still very nice of them to go out of their way to try to help us. Our room was M409. While it was somewhat outdated, it was everything we needed. I mean do you really go to the most beautiful Island to sit in a room. It was very clean, it had a great AC, full kitchen, and a living room area. Housekeeping came every day and was very cheerful and welcoming. The resort itself was beautiful. They are in the process up remodeling the units. The grounds are very clean and well kept. You are walking distance to a beach and all the pools are nice and clean. They have the swim up bars that you can swim up to and get a drink. Very friendly staff they all go above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay. You feel very safe and secure while staying at the resort. I would recommend this place and will stay here again myself.

I spent my last couple of days in Saint Maarten at the Simpson Bay Resort. The complex is huge, with everything from restaurants to pools and a casino to keep you on-site. I was surprised by the low price, but then I found out I was in B259, way up the hill from everything. The unit itself was nice enough - definitely renovated recently with new kitchen appliances, granite countertop, etc., but the living/bedroom area is a bit cramped and there was only window in the whole unit. Air-conditioning and wi-fi both were excellent. The resort has beach access to Simpson Bay, and while there are much nicer beaches in St. Martin, I admit it was convenient to have there in walking distance. For the amount of wandering back and forth you need to do, I'd only recommend it for longer stays (After all, it is primarily a time-share complex). The resort is only five minutes away from the airport and Maho Beach and Simpson Bay was a lot more fun than my stay on the French side in Sandy Ground. I highly recommend the Bon Appetit restaurant inside the complex for a great meal and for a delicious breakfast, just drive a couple of minutes down to Zee Best.

Room Tip: Take a look at the resort map. You will pay less the further away from the beach and restaurants you...

As with many of the previous reviews of this property I'd agree....you must make sure you stay in a renovated room! And your check-in will take you longer then expected (our's took an hour...and 3 cocktails).
I was there on a "boy's" vacation, and was expecting a bit more activity around the resort, but it was very quiet. That wasn't too bad because there was alot to do within walking distance, including many restaurants. The people there are great!!! Always willing to help, but, just remember you are on St Martin time(think SLOW). We rented a car for 2 days, otherwise took a taxi if we had to...could go either way on that one-depends on your travel companions. If you're adventurous, get a car to explore.
PS. the hills can be tough if your are staying at the top, but they do have shuttles if you have patience.
Have Fun!

Room Tip: Stayed in Bouganvilla building-very clean, renovated, well appointed(Full kitchen), great balcony ov...

We stayed in B203, which meant we had an uphill walk when returning to our room. Also, the room had no view and was pretty basic (king bed, full kitchen, average accomodations). However, there is a very large pool between the "B" building that is lightly used and is terrific for swimming laps in the morning (also has a swim-up bar). A better room with a view would have resulted in our providing a much better rating for this resort.

However, the resort property was quite nice, and only a $15 taxi fare from the airport. Excellent beach, Aqua Mania had various great outing leaving from the resort (Rock & Roll Safari was the most fun), and there were several very good restaurants in the resort - Toppers, The Stone, Bon Apetit. Skip the Alexander's Restaurant (budget meals, well priced but not so good, except for breakfast). The Peli Deli (on-site) was a well-stocked convenience store, which enabled us to save money on breakfast and lunch expenses. There was decent snorkeling on the rocks/reef off the beach. We also took the 3-hour bus tour around the island, stopping in Marigot and at Orient Beach, for just $15 PP. We did NOT rent a car for the week and were glad we didn't, since our main purpose was relaxation and we didn't see much on our bus tour that motivated us to rent a car.

My wife also enjoyed the on-site Hollywood casino. Some visitors reported problems getting a spot on the beach (with shade), but we didn't experience any problems. The resort provides free lounge chairs, you just will want to tip the "beach boys" a couple of bucks for helping you out. Also, some guests reporting some irritation with the beach towels but we found it very convenient (we exchanged for new towels every day at a booth on the way up to our room).

The Concierge (when we checked in) was primarily interested in getting us to attend a presentation, and little else. We did receive an information package about the resort that was helpful.

We traded into Simpson Bay Resort and had read a lot online about the difference between renovated rooms and the old ones. We were put ini a renovated one bedroom in the B building at the top of the hill. It was great. Much better than we had anticipated and that is always nice. There was separate air conditioning in the bedroom so it was easy to keep the unit cool. A hint on the air conditioning. It is above the bed so you have to use the remote control to point the air towards your feet or you will freeze at night! The suite was nicely appointed with a great deck. The only problem we encountered while we were there was the water went out in the building for a few hours.

There is a great pool for the B buildings with a pool bar. It was a great place to relax. Because we were at the top of the hill it was quiet without a lot of people just wandering in.

The resort has a fee restaurants on site. The best is the Stone which I review on its own. The Bon Appetite has some great croissants and breakfasts but is right on the street so loud and busy. There are many restaurants in walking distance including SO French which you must try

The Hollywood casino is reminiscent of the old casinos in Las Vegas. Real penny slots and five dollar black jack. We ended up leaving with winnings so that was nice too!

I have to call out the great staff at the resort. Everyone was so friendly it was easy to see why it was called the Friendly Island. We did the timeshare presentation and it was fast and laid back. No pressure. Odene was our concierge and she was great. Another good thing about this resort was that many of the activities you could do, snorkeling, cruises and tours all left from the resort so you did not have to travel far for fun.

The only reason I did not give it an excellent was that they are still finishing the restorations so those buildings were needing improvement. Also be prepared for a hike if you get in the upper buildings. It is not far but very steep. They do have free shuttles to take you up and down if you want but I didn't like having to wait for those all the time

When we come back to St. Maarten we would definitely stay here again

We have been coming here for years. We now own 2 weeks of timeshare here and, this past year, rented an additional two weeks privately. The island is magical and the Simpson Bay Resort continues to be one of the finest on the island. Great units to stay in, wonderful amenities and facilities, and really good restaurants on and around property. The location, on the Dutch side and not far from the airport, is ideal. Fabulous views and convenient to everything.

Room Tip: choose one of the renovated buildings.

We have owned and stayed here for years. Our building, the "Upper B" building was completely renovated last year. The results were wonderful. I now looks and feels like a high class resort, from the memory foam mattress, to the quartz counter top and marble backslash to the all new furniture, dishes, glassware etc. Literally everything is brand new. Check in was a breeze and the staff has been very friendly and accommodation. Perfect location. Great place to stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a unit in a renovated building. They are not all done yet. Upper floors overlookin...
