“Perfect for sunsets”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

On the beach, informal, small plates, good drinks, great view of the sunset. Service was a bit slow but friendly.

“"Fun beach bar with good food"”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

Really fun combination of being right on the beach with your feet in the sand, great Mojitos and good food. What else do you need for a great beach bar?? Go and you will enjoy it.

“Relaxing and Fun”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Feet in the sand - sitting by the water ... casual dining with good food and drinks. A great place to spend an evening chilling with friends and having a light meal.

“Laid back, awesome place to eat, drink and chill...”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

Staying at Grand Case Beach Club, Grand Case, St. Martin, one gets to visit some amazing eateries, offering a wide variety of wonderful food, freshly prepared and imaginatively served. There are good places to stand up and eat, sit down and eat, the "stuffy factor" ranging from "Quite so, old boy" to "Hey, y'all, come on in and get ya some o this here!"

When my wife & I visited Grand Case, staying at Grand Case Beach Club, this past January we had a couple of occasions to visit Calmos Cafe (CC for short hereinafter). CC is sort of hidden, you almost need to accidentally find it, or be strolling past in the evening when they've got the party going on back there to draw you close enough to notice the nearly concealed tiny alleyway between buildings that leads back to the entrance proper to Calmos Cafe. Apparently, they have an Island-famous Latin Night party, but we missed it by a day, but so many people talked about it, we're sorry we missed it - we like a party! Still, on both of our two visits, one just for drinks and hanging out, the other for food and the party vibe that CC seems to have, we had a really great time. For going out, so to speak, in Grand Case it was our favorite. That's not saying much if you happened to be used to the big city nightclub scene, but still, it IS a good time, nonetheless.

Meal: Our second visit, when we ate my wife had a "Mahi Burger," suggested by our server (cool young French guy), who asked her what she was in the mood for, and since the seafood is all so fresh in the islands, she went that direction, so he asked her if she liked burgers in the States, and when she replied in the affirmative he suggested that. Your basic cheeseburger setup, but with a thick cut of Mahi instead of a ground beef patty. She loved it, said the fish was amazing. I went out on a very short limb and got another cheeseburger (see my review of La Repair on St. Barth's for the other end of that story), and requested goat cheese on it rather than the usual Swiss, Cheddar or American cheese. Goats, you see, live "on the edge." My burger was great, I have to tell yu. Since coming home, I've had to experiment with a bunch of those other weirdly-named cheeses in the deli aisle.

Drinks & party: CC has an excellent ambiance, it's relaxed and cool. The front half of the house is "inside, the back end being open to the water/beach, and the back end is just that, open to the beach, sand under your feet, barely a few steps out to the waves coming in softly. Very neat place to sit and drink, laugh and talk. Lots of visitors to the island there, drinking together. Not the best place, out on the beach, to meet new folks and mingle with those new-to-you people, but it IS much more like that up in the "inside" portion. More like a standard bar in there.

Service at CC is really, really good. Very courteous, and obviously enjoying their work there. Pleasant moods, laughter and smiles are all around. Speed of service can be a bit slow when they get slammed, but that's everywhere, right? Drinks are strong if you want them strong, and they have quite the impressive list of mixers, so can make a broad array of fun stuff.

Great place! Check it out!
