“Pretty boutique hotel”
Reviewed 4 February 2014 via mobile

Fantastic location at the quieter end of the beach, so that you can just stroll from your room down the beach for a wonderful lunch at some of the great restaurants in the centre of Grand Case.

The rooms are large and nicely furnished although starting to look a little tired at the edges.

The staff were great - we were there in the low season when it was quiet and they were very generous with allowing us to check in early and leave late.

Pros: Lovely boutique well-maintained hotel...room and bathroom clean and modern with fully equipped kitchen and good shower...in walking distance to great restaurants...beach right there and quiet...
Cons: Hotel -- bed terrible -- lumpy on a wooden platform with pointed corners to ensure a black and blue response when hitting it; pillows flatter than pancakes; third floor balcony view nothing to go crazy about; staff far from warm and welcoming...no one ever asked how our stay was or how we were doing...but the biggest CON is the location: beach at your doorstep but this part of the island surf active and it's either get hit by the waves on shore or swim, not really any shelf to stand on; but the worst part -- sketchy neighborhood to walk through to get to restaurants...really great restaurants but questionable area...definitely of concern at night only...also poverty intermixed with the restaurants in a real in your face way...Grand Case seriously dilapidated, boarded over, paint peeling, garbage, not very pretty...wouldn't go back although we definitely had a relaxing and great calorie experience.

Bobbi and I are cane bound but still travel a lot - Europe in spring and fall; Caribbean in winter. We prefer intimate hotels and Le Petit was perfect. We spent eight great nights at Le Petit Hotel in January - our second visit to the Island. Le Petit is right on the beach so we could sit, read, and walk as far as we wanted in either direction. Remi and staff were very attentive and helpful. Our second floor room was an easy flight of stairs and had a beautiful balcony overlooking the bay. The balcony has a bar high table and high cushioned arm chairs so you sip some wine, play cards, or whatever and still see the beautiful view if abandon the beach for a squall. There are also two lounge chairs but the balustrades somewhat obstruct the view. The room itself was good sized, comfortably appointed, and we could hear the surf at night even with the balcony doors closed. Notable was the fact that the air conditioning was whisper quiet and effective - rare even in luxury hotels. The breakfast was typically European. There is not a separate dining area: you put things on a tray and eat in your room or on your balcony. We especially appreciate that breakfast was brought to us each morning. Grand Case has the best restaurants on the island. For us it was a bit of a walk to the center of Grand Case for dinner so we usually took cabs but we managed a few times and most folks won't be challenged (except the road is busy and no sidewalks). The desk arranged reservations and transportation. Le Petit is our kind of place and we would love to return.

Room Tip: I think every room in this hotel has the same wonderful view.

We cannot say enough nice things about this beautiful place. Remy and his lovely wife are excellent hosts. They will accommodate you in every way. The room is beautiful and location is great- well within walking distance to all the great restaurants. Definitely would recommend it. Try to get the third floor- great view- including the lovely morning doves and their babies right outside the room.

Room Tip: 3rd floor if possible

A week at Le Petit is the best therapy one can find. The location on the beach at Grand Case offers the superb combination of swim/snorkel/kayak with great food from either the lolos or the gastronomic restaurants a few blocks away. We stayed last year in the Radisson Blu and there is no comparison - while the resort has a lot to offer, Le Petit offers location, convenience, and a perfect spot for couples to unwind. Our balcony overlooking the water became our favorite place to hang out. We also did a quick trip to Philipsburg, a number of hikes around the island, and a day on Pinel Island - all very convenient from Le Petit. And, of course, Remi, Yamina, and Anne Laure we helpful, supportive, informative and attentive and helped make this an incredible experience. We'll be back!

We have been to St Martin 3 times. St Bart's, Jamaica twice, Puerto Rico a few times, Barbados, Aruba, St Thomas, Bermuda, St John, Anguilla, South Beach, etc., and this was far and away the best ever. The management, Remi and Yamina, were gracious, personable, respectful and attendant to every detail. The rooms and views were elegant and spectacular, with the ocean waves lulling us into full night's sleeps and vacation mode. The fresh breakfast was perfect in every detail.
Management lent out snorkeling and kayaking equipment, and then hosted a very warm and friendly cocktail party, including the best lemon meringue pie and other delicious food. The other guests were similarly overwhelmed with the beauty and charm.
We ate out at 5 different 5 star restaurants, all within walking distance - - a walk along the beach and then along Grand Case's Main Street.
We are sure now to come back. We are eager to share this wonderful experience with friends, and felt compelled to give it up to Trip Advisor as well!

Room Tip: all 10 rooms have beautiful private balcony overlooking and close to the ocean. we were on top floo...

We loved Le Petit Hotel. We'd never been to St. Martin before and really didn't know what we were getting into, and I chose Le Petit based on the reviews here and some other positive reviews elsewhere. It was the perfect choice. Amid the cold winter, being able to go to the Caribbean and stay in a place right on the water, where we could greet each day by opening the balcony door, turning off the A/C, and enjoying the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze was nirvana. The beach is literally right there.

The location of the hotel is perfect. Outside of the hustle and bustle of the Dutch side and Marigot, it was close to 'restaurant row' in Grand Case but not IN it. For us, this was very important. We could drive to everything we wanted to see very easily while still enjoying a very peaceful, calm environment. The hotel is quiet as were most of the guests staying there. There were no children, no one being loud and disruptive. We enjoyed the general tranquility and ease the place provides - that's exactly what we wanted. If you're going to stay here, rent a car! It's cheap and includes airport transfers. Le Petit can arrange it for you. We did not have 4-wheel drive and didn't need it. Unlike the USVIs, you don't need one on this island.

The rooms include a full kitchen - frig, microwave, oven, stove top - that has a sleek, modern feel. The breakfast, featuring delicious French pastries, was perfect. We bought some eggs to accompany the pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee. It was perfect! They also have a menu of beverages you can purchase there, such as wine and champagne.

What we loved most about the place was the staff. Remy, Yasmina, and Anna were all fantastic. We interacted with Remy most, and he is full of excellent suggestions, helpful tidbits, and a willingness to help however he can. I get the sense that he really enjoys what he does - all of them do - and derive pleasure from their guests enjoying their vacations. He and almost everyone we met in St. Martin were incredibly friendly and nice. At Le Petit, they truly have found the right people.

We think this place edges out L'Esplanade because of the location. We weren't crazy about where L'Esplanade is, even though it's lovely. The Westin's beach is very rough, and the Radison Blu is in a very remote location. We wouldn't have come or gone much if we'd stayed there. As mentioned earlier, Philipsburg and Marigot were no-gos for us. Too much traffic and busy-ness. (But if you want action, that's where to go!!)

To the owners of Le Petit, I will agree with one thing another reviewer wrote: the furniture, while absolutely fine, could use an upgrade. The bed was on the too firm side and most of the furniture also was not designed for comfort. Get some comfy stuff in there! But even these comments, which may sound incredibly negative, aren't meant that way. Instead, they are comments on how to make a fabulous place even better.

Restaurants and other stuff we especially liked:
- Le Ti Provencale
- L'Auberge Gourmonde
- Ilet Pinel for low-key beach
- Hiking around the northeastern tip
- French side for relaxed environment and great food

Room Tip: We asked for the top floor, because we didn't want to hear footsteps overhead. I don't know...
