What more can I say that hasn't been said? Although we were only staying for 2 nights before heading to St Bart's, we now wish we had more time here! This hotel has it all. A great value, great location, clean rooms with great views and with huge confortable beds. They also offer free in room wifi and a complimentary bottle of Fiji water. Nice touch! But what really sets L'Esplanade apart is the service. They are so welcoming. From arranging our rental car before we arrived to arranging our ferry reservation to St Bart's, everyone is there to help. Add Alan and his great drinks at the pool bar in addition to an easy walk down to restaurant row for dinner, there's nothing more you can want from a hotel. We're definitely sold on L'Esplanade and we can't wait to be back!

....and i truly mean that. we have been traveling to st. martin for some time now...on our honeymoon we had the good fortune to discover lepetite hotel, then run by kristin and marc petrelluzzi. we couldn't have landed in a better spot. romantic, beautiful, peaceful, and magical are the words that come to mind in remembering our time there in 2000. for those who have not yet experienced grand case, it is a section of st. martin filled with the laid back vibe you want in a vacation, and the restaurants are excellent. over the years we have been fortunate to experience lepetite and hotel l'esplanade. this year's trip was no exception. we stayed at l'esplanade in a loft suite that had been newly updated with splashes of carribean color, while still subdued and laid back. we had two balconies; one off the first level and a second off the loft bedroom, which featured a vaulted ceiling and four poster bed which was a dream to sleep on...a bathroom to beat the band with an open concept using stone as the natural feel. really, i wish i had one on these showers in my home, simple but beautiful. though we are always on the move during our vacations, it was so relaxing to kick back by the pool, visit with alan, and eat local fare cooked by his mom...seriously second to none!! from house cleaning to the front desk, the message is always the same...welcoming, hospitable, friendly, and ready with suggestions for activities or the perfect dining experience, and we managed quite a few...la villa and the yacht club for fine dining (both excellent!)....local lolo's (esp. enoch's in marigot) among them. and then there are the beaches! there are so many...i will say this, part of the fun of st. martin is that the island is small enough to do some exploring to what suits your taste. every day is an adventure and we were treated to one of the best beaches yet on the dutch side.
and then there are the people that you meet, and for us the friendships that have lasted over a decade and counting...there are no other places we would stay on the island other than properties managed by kristin and marc petrelluzzi, they are warm and kind, they do it right, and know how to make you feel right at home.

Spent a week here mid-April, and it was as well-located, good and efficient as the reviews here say. Our one bedroom suite was massive with a lovely balcony and hammock (room 16), and the small touches everywhere indicate owners who know what they're doing.

Although it's very near the local airport (handy for us to pop over to St Barts) there's little noise, and it's also easy and not strenous to walk either to the nearby restaurants or the grand beach club to get to the local beach.

Security was good on-site, and the walk down to restaurant row is lovely - well, until you come to restaurant row itself which is essentially a busy pock-marked road with no pavements and some pretty dingy shacks/houses either end.

The wifi was very good (cable option too), essential for us as we had work to do, and the supermarket US Market is a 5 minute drive away (if you want imported goods at 2xLondon prices!).

Nice pool area, good bar service, so for those wanting to visit St Martin and to stay in Grand Case we'd thoroughly recommend this place.

Didn't experience any issues with noise from rooms being cleaned, didn't mind the odd insect or lizard we saw outside (it's the caribbean after all), and no one should have any worries about it "being on a hill" "steep walk up" etc- it's a gentle stroll up and down a lovely path.

Recommend.

Room Tip: Room 16 is a great space, lovely hammock and balcony, and great views.

You would think your second visit to this hotel could not top the first one, but it did! The location is the best, everyday what views from your balcony. I already miss waking up having my coffee on the balcony with that view. What am I going to do without my sunsets! You cannot believe how beautiful. The staff is soooo great!! I had them change reservations so many times but they always did it with a smile. Everyone there is great! So much helpful information to help you with your stay. Walking to the wonderful restaurants in Grand Case is also easy access from this hotel. Thank you again Mark for your help in our room. We love your hotel!

Amazing staff, amazing rooms, amazing experience..... Don't come here expecting a resort or an all-inclusive experience, that's not the St. Martin experience -- at least on the French Side... this is a truly unique, special place to visit.... Perfectly situated on a hillside, gorgeous views from your two-story room.... not on the beach, but it makes no difference... you take a beautiful walk down a beautiful, rainforest-like path to Grand Case Beach Club where you set up shop on BEAUTIFUL Petit Plage with Creole Rock..... A BIG shoutout to Myriam and "Cash" Richardson.... We just left yesterday, no more rum punch -- you know who I am! xoxo and see you soon!

Room Tip: I don't think you could go wrong with any of them

A big part of me doesn't want to review this hotel because I don't want anyone else to know about it--it's too good, in some ways too good to be true. My husband and I always say that if we had to design the perfect small hotel this would be it. Scores of reviews say the same thing and no wonder they consistently win awards. We are repeaters, having spent a glorious 2 February weeks for the fifth year in a row at L'Esplanade. We have stayed in almost all the types of suites they offer and they are all great--tastefully appointed, immaculate, and elegantly understated. The beds are dream-inducing, The staff through and through are both accessible and friendly, and the owners will stop at nothing to ensure your needs are attended to. Kristin and Mark are the very models of hospitality. Location is also superb, 'on a hill, above the rest,' about an 8-minute walk down a lushly landscaped footpath to the French restaurant-rich town of Grand Cas, where you want to be every evening after you have watched the sunset from your balcony, cocktail in hand. And every morning you can breakfast on that balcony overlooking the sea, surrounded by hummingbirds and palm trees. The traveler who doesn't like L'Esplanade doesn't like life.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea and have a balcony. You simply cannot go wrong. It's only a matter of whe...

We just wanted to thank Raisinbread for the very poetic, touching review. It really brought tears to our eyes! Your last sentence was the icing on the cake for us, "The traveler who doesn't like L'Esplanade, doesn't like life." It seems that over the years you've really caught the L'Esplanade bug! Nothing makes us happier than when people "get" what we are doing here! Thanks ever so much for your loyalty over the years!

I had to postpone my initial reservation due to illness. They were extremely understanding and helpful, permitting me to reapply my deposit when I was again able to travel. Six months later, we arrived for a long weekend in March, 2011. I let them know it was my wife's birthday and asked them to recommend a restaurant for her birthday dinner. They did, and made reservations for us. It was fantastic, and the restaurant gave us the extra attention one appreciates on a special occasion. The hotel also noted the event with flowers.

Our room, a loft suite was roomy, comfortable with a lovely terrace overlooking the water from which we sipped wine and watched the sunset each evening. The location is an easy walk to 'restaurant row' in Grand Case and the local beaches. This is definitely a world-class hotel - I will definitely be back.
