As we are packing our belongings to depart today, there is an extreme wave of sadness. We do not return home, or back to "reality", but instead we continue our island-hopping adventure through the Lesser Antilles. My husband and I seriously thought about canceling the remainder of the trip so that we could stay here, at L'Esplanade, with this amazing staff.

This is going to be long... Sorry in advance!

When we arrived on Monday, we were greeted with the most welcoming South African accent, to which we were introduced to Natalie, who is a true gem found rarely in the hospitality industry. To the owner of this fabulous hotel - Natalie is an amazing representation of your facility. She is welcoming, caring, full of knowledge, and the overall well-being of each and every guest she encounters. Although we fully understood this was not a "full service" hotel, Natalie's service made us feel more important and more loved than any other hotel/resort staff has before. We are not "world travelers", but we do enjoy our trips and vacations, and Natalie made this stay for us. She is above the rest. Natalie, enjoy your weekend off -- a much deserved, for such an amazing hotelier. If you ever decide to come to the States, please look us up. We would be honored to have you join our team!

My husband and I stayed in #12, a two story loft with two terraces, beautiful decor and ... CLEAN! Although we did not have the opportunity to meet any of the Housekeeping Department, we were absolutely blown away with the cleanliness of the unit. As hoteliers, we tend to be on the look out for "wrong things". We couldn't find anything. It was such an amazing feeling, walking into an establishment and feeling "good" about your decision. After planning a wedding, spending a week with close family and friends for that wedding, and leaving our home to travel to the Caribbean.... This was the first chance we had to... Just breathe. We walked through our clean and very well maintained unit, to the downstairs terrace and just took a breath. This. Is. Vacation. You will not regret your decision to stay here.

The staff gave us some great tips that we highly recommend including on your vacation:
1. First and foremost, before you unpack... Go see Alan at the bar. He is incredible. One conversation with him makes you feel like you've known him for years. Try the piña colada or his "special" rhum drink. He never disappoints. We stopped in to see Alan once every day.
2. Most will tell you to rent a car. We did not. We met a taxi driver, Benjamin, with Golden Boy Taxi, who took care of us from the beginning to the end of our trip. Give him 30 minute notice, and he will be sure to get to you. He showed us around, and told us some amazing stories of the island. Great recommendation by the hotel staff! Please continue to promote Benjamin!
3. Restaurant Row is a must. Try to mix up the favors-- eat at one of the Lolo's restaurants and at least one French Rstaurant. Staff recommend Le'Pressior... Wow! Best meal we have had in a while.
4. Orient Bay. It's a nudey beach... Nuff said. Staff recommended Waikiki and Bikini Bar... We loved both, and went to Pedro's and La Playa as well.
5. Loterie Farm- a must. Make sure you have tennis shoes/sneakers. Do not take a book bag, sunglasses and camera okay. We did the Extreme course, a two-hour course of zip lining down Pic Paradise. Andrew was a great tour guide. Stop in to see the beautiful Rose at the bar afterwards.
6. Pinnel Island. We heard was a must see, but we ran out of time. I will repost after our next visit.

My husband and I will be back. We love Hotel L'Esplanade.

Lovely room, great service, and perfect location for easy access to some delightful restaurants. The pool was quiet with a nice bar with grilled sandwiches. Wish the location had been on the beach, but it was just a short walk away. Parking was easy and the grocery was only a two minute drive away. Would go back again without hesitation.

The L 'Esplanade is everything it claims to be. Great views of the water; within walking distance of the restaurants in town; easy access to the main roads to Marigot and Orient Bay; and very nice rooms. Even though it's a hotel, the loft we stayed in has what amounts to a full kitchen. That makes it easy to save a little money on breakfast and lunch if you want, or if you want to get take out from of the places downtown.

The grounds are well maintained and the staff is very cordial and helpful. Take their advice and rent your car through the Justice car rental agency. They will pick you up at the airport, and deliver you back when it's time to leave. It is very convenient.

Take loads of cash with you if you are an American. A large number of restaurants and bars will accept USD as equal to Euro's if you pay cash. That's a pretty nice discount. There are also a pretty large number of places who will not accept credit cards at all. You need to be prepared.

You can go to Orient Beach if you want, but it's big and crowded and on windy days not very nice. We very much preferred Friar's Bay, and Baie Rouge. PInel Island is nice but it's an expensive day. We also highly recommend the 12 metre regatta adventure.

Room Tip: I suspect they are all good rooms.

Rooms are modern and comfortable. Furnishings first rate. Nice views of harbor. Quiet.
Hotel is very well cared for, and staff is friendly and helpful. Swimming pool area is very pleasant with lots of trees for shade and a nice swim up bar.
Rooms have well equipped kitchens, but proximity to numerous wonderful retaurants makes eating in not likely. One missing feature is an on-site restaurant, which would be handy for breakfast, but they will bring in breakfast from an outside vendor on request. Also, it's an easy walk to the Sunset Cafe at the Grand Case Beach Club for any meal.

Room Tip: For couples, one bedroom suite is delightful. If you want an extra half bath, go for the one bedroom...

When the catamaran we were to stay on couldn't make the passage to St. Martin, we showed up on the island without a place to stay. We drove from the airport through the Dutch side, looping through Little Beach, Great Bay, Dawn Beach, Oyster Pond, and then through the French towns/ beaches Galion, Orient, French Cul de sac and Anse Marsel checking out most hotels (and a few condo rentals) along the way. Most of them were faded and/or odd, with a bit of an untended vibe. The towns themselves also were sleepy and spare (except for Phillipsburg, which was a traffic jam with Carnival in full swing and four giant cruise ships in the harbor), we were there the last week of April, so the crowds had apparently died down. Anyway, when we arrived at L'Esplanade it was like - finally! A place we could settle in and enjoy the island! No, this hotel is NOT beachfront, but Grand Case is not about the beach - it's about the great selection of restaurants along Blvd de Grand Case. However the hotel has awesome views of the beautiful bay, especially enjoyed at sunset from the large balcony our room had. We stayed in a standard loft room, which was spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. We had a large kitchen and living area + a powder room on the main level, and a loft king bedroom with a big comfortable bathroom upstairs. We are not resort-loving people, we prefer intimate, unique, well cared for hotels with attentive, kind staff - that's exactly what we found at L'Esplanade. I probably wouldn't bring small children here, it's a romantic couples scene. And if walking stairs is difficult for you, you should find another place to stay. If you like lusciously landscaped, medditerranean-styled private suites, stellar views, and don't mind a short walk down a manicured path to amazing restaurants, this is your place. Drive to beaches during the daytime, or sail for the day in one of the awesome catamarans that anchor in the bay (the best days of our trip were spent aboard Winner Touch (wow!) and Standing Evasion (lovely!)). After cleaning up, and watching the sunset over the bay from your balcony, wander into town for amazing food (Calmos was our favorite, but there were many great options). A perfect day in paradise!

This is our second time, after a several year absence (we stayed at sister hotel Le Petit, twice in between). We are so glad we returned. First of all don't bother reading this review if you require the following in a hotel: turndown service, spa, fitness center, on site restaurant, casinos, lively nightlife. Also, the hotel is probably not for those who are immobility impaired. Continue reading this review if you want a low key vibe with excellent accomodations, a terrific staff, killer views within a stone's throw of gastronomic heaven.
We stayed in an oversized loft this time and loved it! The bathroom was beautiful and spacious. The kitchen had been upgraded nicely. I couldn't figure out how to use the stove, but, Morgane, came right up to help me. I managed not to burn the eggs, fortunately! The cabinets are stocked with everything you need, as well. We had ample space to enjoy wine and cheese on the balcony with another couple we met. There was another smaller balcony off of the loft/bedroom area.
Like others have said, they set up you with coffee, one free bottled water, and treats for the first day, which, is a nice touch, since, who wants to run out to the market after a long day of travelling? Also, you can order breakfast to be delivered to you room by filling out the form in the room the night before. There is also a wine menu, as well. The next day, we went to Simply market and stocked up on wine, water, baguette, cheeses, eggs, etc.
The food in Grand Case is exquisite. I wrote seperate reviews of the restaurants. Also, if your too tired to bother going out, order pizza delivery from Antonio's. It is excellent!!! They keep menus in the reception area of the hotel. And, they will order for you, if you like.
The pool bar was a great place to hang out. Happy hour is 5-6. And, Alan serves up a tasty lunch. Our last day we had shrimp creole and a fish burger along with the last bottle of Rose we had left in the fridge, by the pool. From June thru the end of October I was told there is no pool bar service.
The staff couldn't be more accomodating. They made reservations for us at restaurants. We had a late flight and I inquired if we could possibly have a later checkout. Kristin was able to arrange it. I realize that can't always happen, without causing a delay on the new arrivals.
We used the car rental company they have arrangements with so we could pick up the car at the hotel and leave it there when we left. Liked not having to hassle with the drop off at airport. Airplanes routinely take off and land at the small airport next door during certain hours of the day. And, you will hear roosters, as well. after all, it is a sleepy village. The walk to/from the hotel undoubtedly kept us from gaining weight after all the great meals!
We hung out at Grand Case beach a couple of times. Chairs and umbrellas are free when you eat at Rainbow (highly recommend) and Calmos Cafe. Also recommend Friar's Bay beach and Palm Beach on Orient.
We will be back.

We were very excited as this was our first time anywhere in the Caribi and we booked a week and a half in late Dec. If you expect anything like a hotel or resort you'd be let down pretty heavily, this is more like a nice apartment compound on a hill overlooking Grand Case. You can call the desk and request anything, but you'd feel awkward about it as this place doesn't really offer any on-site services. If you want a nice apt. in a nice quiet location with upkeep service in the morning, you'll be happy.

Room Tip: Opt for the smaller rooms, everything is well placed and better than the lofts.
