“Where's the Love?”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

ITs all very nice - if you are french (!), Grand Case has a feeling of serious crime, I think i was offered hard drugs more in Grand Case than anywhere else on the Island. The Hotel is lovely, a good bar area, just all a little expensive compared to other hotels I have stayed in on the Island. The owners were very welcoming and in fact delightful on check in. We stayed in room 6, which is a side view of the sea, with a shared balcony area, not any privacy, if thats what you want. (You can book room 7 at €250 per night with its own small balcony if you want some outdoor 'you time'.) The room is average size, with poor storage, only hanging space and a shelf. The coffee machine in the room is one of those Nespreso types, very nice. However, you get two coffee capsules on the first day, and thats it.. You have to pay for any others, thats not cool. The Shower is broken, and its annoying, because its easy to fix, and just lazy not to. Its noisy there. Lots of wheel spinning cars, motorbikes and domestic 'punch ups' on the streets.. Other than that, Grand Case is a bit boring, its ok for a couple of nights, Try a day at Loterie Farm, and stay on a friday when there is street market,,and it will all be a little more bearable. Have a meal in one of the french food houses, the menu is the same everywhere, but the food is very 'rich typical Parisian style..

Room Tip: room 7 - otherwise you will feel cheated

We found this hotel by driving past and booking directly. We enjoyed a lovely stay and the staff were are attentive and friendly. When i realised i had left a hard drive in our room after our holiday i tried to contact the hotel on many occasions, via email, Facebook and phone. To which i have had no response or been able to find a phone number that i can get through on. So i can presume the hard drive is long gone now. It's a disappointing end to what was a very lovely stay there. Mosquitos were a problem in our room too, which kept us awake at night. But the hotel its self is in a fantastic location and the staff are great.

We came to Grand Case many times beginning in 2008. Unfortunately the economy has severely impacted Grand Case that has resulted in a lot of decrepit buildings, garbage and serious crime. This hotel is beautiful and the owners are very hospitable.
The rooms are spacious and luxurious. Sadly the wonderful things that were done at this hotel cannot overcome the tragic surroundings or the dangerous crime. I blame the government of French st Martin for not keeping Grand Case safe.

Exellent location directly on the beach, nice room, modern shower. The housekeeping lady was very good and helpful. Many stores and restaurants around as the front entrance of "Love" is right from the main street. We had some drinks at the "love" bar downstairs (on the beach), both drinks and service were excellent. I do agree with all comments in previous review, except our room wasn’t dark and look exactly as its picture.

Muriel & William the owners are fantastic, warm and welcoming. The hotel is perfectly placed on a magnificent little beach all to their own with inclusive lounge chairs and umbrellas even little cocktail tables in the water! The decor is extremely tasteful, trendy and in perfect harmony with the Caribbean/modern theme. The rooms are ver comfortable, bedding and amenities are of very high quality, a great little bonus of a Nespresso machine (with two capsules) in the room to start the day in the perfect way, Oh and a great size fridge too. The menu restaurant/tapas/cocktails is superbly thought through, presented and priced, club sandwiches and mango mojitos are divine! Our short stay was so memorable and relaxing that we would go back in a heart beat! Thank you Muriel & William!!! Karen & Olivier Deplaix

Room Tip: The new sea view rooms in the "LOVE residence" are fabulous!

If you are the kind of traveler who enjoys big glitzy resorts, big night life, and fast paced service this is not your place. This is for folks who love the mellow easy good life! The owners are sweet authentic people, the staff is friendly and helpful. The beach is just plain awesome. Its small so that its not too busy, but always has a few people sharing drinks or soaking up the sun. The bar is great, I recommend the banana coladas. In terms of location its the best on the island, literally. Grand Case is lovely, safe, quant. I read a bunch of recommendations saying this place felt dangerous or seedy, its not. Its filled with locals who are friendly, and top notch restaurants. The location of Love is perfect, you can stroll down to dinner and its not so central that its noisy. I felt safe the whole time. But like I said , you need to be the kind of person who likes getting of the beaten track a bit, likes the grit of unpaved roads and just hanging out taking your time for food and enjoying the view. I love this place!!!!My only tiny complaint would be the rooms looked better on line than in real life, but I think thats to be expected of most hotels. The beds were not super comfy, the drain in the shower was plugged, but they fixed the shower head the day we complained about it. The rooms on the main floor behind the bar are quite dark and the lighting is poor. BUT.....it just doesn't matter because for the price of it, and the location and the people.....well, who cares!? Its not like we spent any time in the room anyway! I think if I were to come again (I hope!!) I would stay in the upstairs, or the in the addition to the hotel they are adding next door. The addition looks amazing! So go, you will have a fantastic time!!!!!

Room Tip: Upstairs, or the new addition they are building next door facing the water.

We fell in love with Hotel Love when we happened upon it on Grand Case beach at dusk after leaving another property which we felt wasn't as private as we'd hoped for our couples vacation. After a drink at the bar over looking the ocean, we were hooked by the bohemian French vibe, the laid back, friendly staff and the groove that became our soundtrack for the next four nights.

We stayed in Room 7, the suite overlooking the ocean with a private terrace where we enjoyed the best in-room coffee I've had to date from the Nespresso machine and where we had our nightcaps each evening before bed. The dark wood and white linens decor in the room is simple, not luxurious, but had a clean minimalist feel. The room and the entire hotel was very clean while still feeling very laid back and cozy. The constantly changing colored shower spray added a fun touch to showering in the wooden and tile shower. The AC was more than adequate for sleeping.

The best part of Hotel Love are the people who own and run it - William, Muriel, Babu, Frederik, Denis - everyone enhanced our stay by being personable and providing 5-star service. The food was very, very good and I am very picky. We love St. Martin for the beaches, the food and the people (this was our 4th trip) and Hotel Love delivered on all three. I hate to say anything negative about the hotel because we had a perfect time but my only suggestion is to upgrade the bed linens and the towels, and to provide beach towel service. No one travels with beach towels and it just feels better to lie on a towel on the beach. Babu actually found us a couple of beach towels when we requested them, which we kept for our entire stay. Not as ideal as having one daily but we certainly appreciated that he delivered what we asked for and that exemplifies the service and the personality of everyone at Hotel Love.

And we LOVED being able to walk into Grand Case every night for fabulous dinners at Le Pressoir, Bistrot Caraibes and Ocean 82. Loved all three and loved returning to our simple little Hotel Love each night. A memorable stay for sure.

Room Tip: For the best ocean view, choose the suite, Room 7. Although they were adding on to the hotel with a...
