“we loved it!”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

My husband and i went in May and had a beachfront cabana. We would do it again! We were warmly greeted with cold towels and fruit punch when we arrived after 13 hrs of travel time, and their outdoor restaurant was still open.Roxanne at the front desk was wonderful! Our only 2 issues were easily resolved..Our bed was too hard so she had a mattress pad sent, and our air conditioner smelled moldy so she had it perfectly cleaned the same day. Our view was incredible! The room was small but good enough and loved sleeping and waking to the sound of the waves..Fresh flowers were a nice touch. Not luxury, but its Tortola... rustic, beachy, loved it! We spent our days at Cane Garden Bay beach because the beach at Long Bay, although beautiful and had loungechairs, is rocky and shallow. The breakfast staff is not very friendly, so ate at other island restaurants just to get around...we will return beacuse we love Tortola, and the view from the room is amazing!

Room Tip: loved the beach front cabana but we are beach people.

I stayed at the resort about 15 years ago and rebooked for a 2 week vacation at the resort for May of 2012. I must admit that I checked this site AFTER I booked and some of the reviews for the resort and the weather started to make me scared....that the place had really slipped.
The beach side cabanas are a bit rustic, but the proximity to the beach and the fact the staff did a great daily job of keeping the room spotless made our stay a treat. The tennis courts are amazing and we only saw one other couple use them once in our stay. The pool was clean and refreshing after a day at the beach. The availability of rental cars at the resort was convenient and affordable.....the resort is amazingly beautiful with a spectacular location, beach and landscaping.
The beach in front of the resort is beautiful but a bit rocky....it is much better at the far end of the beach near signal hill.....Smugglers cove is only a 15 min walk and is calm and clear...
I rented a mtn bike and rode a wonderful circuit arount the west end of the island every morning (STEEP CLIMBS!!!)..We loved being able to hop on a ferry and shoot over to JVD or Virgin Gorda.....food on the island is not great but we had good meals at the Sugar Mill and Bananakeets and great breaksfasts in Road Town at Capprecios (good coffee)....
Staff everywhere on the island is a bit indifferent....not rude but sort of "whatever"...
It is very safe on Tortola...we walked and explored everywhere on the Island without ever feeling like we were trapped in a compound.....It is fantastic there is no over-built all inclusive resorts with casinos and discos on the island.....
It turned out May was a great time to go despite the weather forcasts.....It turned out to be sunny and warm every day, with no tourists.....and cheaper rates....brilliant!!

I would not hesitate to recomend the resort to friend or family....I would go back again.

Room Tip: The Beach side cabanas are a bit rustic but clean and steps from the ocean. Hillside rooms are more...

The beach and resort property was beautiful. The room we stayed in needed a lot of TLC. We stayed in a beachfront Cabana and it was very small. The bed was very hard. The bathroom had a squishy floor and to flush the toilet you had to hold down the handle for about 7-8 seconds. The TV got 6 lineup channels, but only 1 actual channel would come in (CNN) and it was fuzzy. You couldn't turn up the volume because the sound was garbled. Mosquitoes were everywhere but bug spray did help. The 1748 bar on the beach was not open at all times advertised so we had to go to a different location (much farther) to get a drink. Roosters would wake you up starting at 5:30 am - and if that didn't wake you up the lawn maintenance crew (mowing, weed eating and blowing) would. The staff was mostly friendly but there were a few times when we felt like we were inconveniencing them. Each day we posted a do not disturb sign on our door, so the maid would have the front desk call us on the phone (at the time the sign was on the door) and ask us when we would like for our room to be cleaned - why not just knock on the door? From others pictures it seems that not all rooms are the same - so if you check in and are not happy with your room I would definitely ask to see if there is something else available. Though we were not thrilled with the room itself (but did not complain to the hotel), the location was great and beauty of the resort/beach made it worth the cost. We would return but would not stay in the Beachfront Cabana.

We stay in the timeshare every year... this year the pool is noticeably in need of a clean and some of the buildings need a lick of paint. The good news is that the staff seem in a great mood this year and they've been very accommodating!

This is a great resort as you're minutes from smuggler's and Soper's hole. We never eat dinner at the resort (like to get out), but we heard good things from our friends at the pool.

A few small tweaks and this would be 5* again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room around the pool or you'll have a long hike up the hill!

My wife and I stayed at Long Bay Beach Resort & Villas after a sailing trip with the Moorings (which was absolutely fabulous, BTW). Upon arrival I was excited, as the staff was friendly, and the surroundings were beautiful.

The room wasn't ready, but we were offered a complementary welcome drink, so the waiting wasn't too bad. Although we booked a Hillside Oceanview Room, we were 'upgraded' to a Beachfront Deluxe room. Well... that were the disappointments started.

The room was very spacious, but terribly outdated. Apart from the LCD TV, some new paint and new bedding, no further investments were done to update / upgrade the rooms since construction. Nothing looked like the promising pictures on their website. The room had a musty smell, and the loud and poorly functioning airconditioning left the room muggy... Instead of replacing a saggy mattress they used plywood board under the mattress. The bathroom was poorly lit with fluorescent light bulbs of different color, and the shower had dirty grout all over and poorly functioning faucets that made a terrible screeching noise when open. Overall, the room was much worse than most of the budget hotels that I've stayed at, but at the price of a luxury hotel.

By then, we also discovered the second biggest issue with the property: mosquitos. I discovered that I was bitten a dozen times within the first hour of arrival. These little vampires were everywhere: lobby, rooms, restaurant, and of course outside... Interestingly the gift shop happily sells you all kinds of repellents and after-bite products (none of them very effective though). They resort should better invest in large propane or CO2 mosquito traps.

The on-site restaurants are not recommended either. This is Long Beach Resort's third issue. The food choice is limited and expensive. But what is worse is that the staff doesn't seem to care. The service is very slow, and orders came out wrong several times. Save money and frustration, and take a taxi to a nearby restaurant (Sugar Mill and Bananakeet are recommended).

On a positive note, the surroundings are very nice, and the staff works hard to keep everything clean. Also the beach is very beautiful. It's a bit isolated, but ideal for some peace and quite!

In conclusion, it was an expensive and very disappointing stay. I am surprised that so many other reviewers are positive, so here is my advice IF you would consider this resort:
- It may be possible that not all rooms are in the same condition. Check your room upon arrival and request another one, if you encounter any of the above. I did not do this (assuming they were all the same, but checking here on TripAdvisor after my return lets me believe otherwise.
- Take every type of mosquito repellent that you can think of with you to this resort. Apply liberally and repeat.
- Don't eat at the resort, unless you really have to.
- Enjoy the beach, as it is the best thing the resort has to offer.

Room Tip: We had a terrible Beachfront Deluxe room. Don't accept to be "upgraded" to such a room...

My husband and I spent 7 days in May 2012 for our anniversary. Everything about this place was awesome. We were upgraded to a beautiful hillside villa. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, amazing views, and the mini fridge came in handy. The views were amazing and the beach is gorgeous. Althea and Roxanne at the front desk were so helpful and professional. The food at 1718 was incredible. I highly recommend getting the meal plan and a rental car. The pool and hot tub were very nice as well. We will be back next year! Great staff and a truly awesome resort!!

Room Tip: I would recommend the hillside villa over the poolside rooms. For a little extra money it is well w...

I am checking out today 5/16/12. We stood in a beachfront room which is a few short steps from the beach, the room is not outdated at all nor is the resort. The room is very clean, even the restrooms on the property were all very clean, you cannot come to an island resort and expect all the comforts of home unless you want to pay top dollar. The beach is rocky but once you past the rocks it is sandy, bring water shoes and you'll have no problem getting in/out, I did just fine. It's actually refreshing that they leave the beachfront as is rather than dredge the ocean to please tourist. There are plenty of lounge chairs on the beach and shade under beautiful palm trees. The view is beautiful, no vendors at all bothering you on the beach. We had most meals at the resort which is unusual but the food was excellent, perfectly seasoned. I would recommend renting a car for at least a day or two to tour the island. The staff here is friendly enough, I certainly didn't encounter any rude staff. there is a back road off the resort which you can walk to smugglers cove and even sopers hole it's a bit of a hike to sopers but hey your on island time you could always take a taxi back for $15. Also one hillside away is Sebastian's which has a restaurant and Bomba shack. It's a nice place to kickback and relax.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms second floor, great views.
