Mongoose Apartments

My husband and I stayed at the Mongoose Apartments near the end of May 2010. We loved it. The place was very clean and roomy. We loved that we had a full kitchen, so that we could eat some meals in - as the food is pretty pricey in the BVI. Sandra provides everything that you need during your stay and is very friendly and accomodating. Cane Garden Bay beach is about a 2 minute walk from Mongoose Apartments. It is great for snorkeling, kayaking, and swimming. We saw turtles, lots of fish and a shipwreck while snorkeling there. We did rent a car - which I recommend if you want to go check out some of the other awesome beaches. The beaches were never crowded. We loved Brewers Bay, Smugglers Cove and Cane Garden Bay for snorkeling. Long Bay Beach(near Smugglers Cove) had awesome waves, while the other Long Bay Beach near the airport was great for crystal clear blue waters and white sands. Josiah Bay is great for collecting sea shells and watching the waves crash in.

My girlfirend and I recently returned from a weeks stay at the Mongoose. We would have been hard pressed to have had a better time ANYWHERE. It is exactly the kind of place we were hoping it would be. It was quite, comfortable and close enough to the beach and "main drag" without actually being on them. We bridwatched from our porch (Sandra, the propriator supplied us with two bird books). We swam and snorkeld every day. We used their kayaks a few times. We would usually be on the beach by 7:00 or 7:30. We had that beach pretty much to ourselves. Even during the day, there was hardly anyone on the beach (at least on our end). There are a handful of beach bars/restaurants within walking distance, so if you don't rent a vehicle, there is plenty to do. We DID rent one and it was definitely worth it. Driving on the left on super steep mountain switchbacks is not for the feint of heart, but after a day or so, it was actually quite fun. If you go (and I reccomend it), say hi to Sandra and Elroy. Say hey to Prince (bartender at Myett's) and be sure to go up the mountain and check out "Rudy's Outdoor Bar". The freshly fried chicken legs and wings come out around 11:30.

My husband and I just came back from a 2 week stay at the Mongoose and wanted to add to the other reviews. The Mongoose is perfectly located in that it is isolated from the main road/beach but is just a 2 minute walk away through a scenic coconut grove. Ideally located on cane garden bay, you are minutes to beach bars, restaurants, grocery store (expensive), laundry and car rental. The Mongoose has it's own beach front area that is quiet and Sandra has all the beach items you need (lounge chairs, floats, Kayaks). The beach is stunning and completely swim friendly. I do recommend renting a car as there are many stunning beaches to visit (Smugglers, Trunk but you do have to hike down there, Long, Brewers and Josiah). Don't miss Long Beach on Beef Island before you hit the airport home. We were still on the beach at 3:15 and had to be to the airport by 3:30. Other fun bars to visit are Rudy's up on the hill and the Bomba Shack. If you do drive, beware the roads are extremely steep, windy and the locals drive very fast. You drive the opposite side of the road however the steering remains on the left making it difficult to see around the corners.
Sandra at the Mongoose was wonderful in assisting in making our excursion and dinner reservations. Don't miss the Bananakeet Restaurant at the Heritage. You will watch the most romantic sunset from the mountains up high.
Sandra even checked to ensure our flight home had not changed.
The apartment itself is a good size, comfortable and clean. Anything you don't have, Sandra can come up with. You won't be dissapointed with this choice for sure. Great place, great price.

My wife and young daughter (1 year old) and I loved our stay at the Mongoose. Sandra was wonderful in helping to coordinate all the details of our stay and the apartment was surprisingly child-friendly for our fast-moving toddler. Sandra even helped to arrange childcare for a few days when we needed a little time to ourselves. Absolutely no complaints. Stay was wonderful, location is perfect, and the apartment is perfectly equipped. Thanks for the wonderful visit; we can't wait to come back!

Right on the beach and yet still in the jungle. Sandra -- the owner -- is lovely. Good value for money. Perfect island vacation spot for people who want all the facilities and don't want to be disturbed. Location is movie-ready perfect in terms of beach, mountains, jungle, palm trees and laid-back beach bars. Perfect honeymoon spot for seasoned travellers seeking semi-isolated paradise.

Couple of points nothing to do with Mongoose Apts: When the surf is very high in Cane Garden Bay there's no beach left, but the waves are spectacular. And when 3 cruise ships are docked in Road Town the beach can get v crowded between 11am and 4pm. But then it empties out like *that*.

the previous review says is better than I can - seems we probably met each other, as our stays overlapped by 6 days - we were there for 8 nights from Jan 4-11, just perfect.
clean, spacious, and just far enough back to be very peaceful and quiet, and safe.
this was our first trip to anywhere in the Caribbean, and after searching travel sites up and down, we're so glad that we choose Mongoose apartments.
we're already planning a return trip next year, and after looking (from the street) at the other options I had not chosen, we're sure we made the right choice!
Sandra set up up with a driver (Godfrey) for a day, and on our last day, printed out
our boarding passes, and called us a cab to get to the ferry terminal at West End in time.
can't say enough postivie things about Mongoose, or Sandra - she did everything she could to make us comfortable, and we thank her for that!
