Icis Villas, Tortola.

Both those who wrote positive reviews as well as those who wrote negative are partially correct. However in my opinion the positive far outweighs the negative. If you want peace, and quiet, away from the masses of tourist who visit this island, then this is the place. As someone else has written this is not the Ritz, and I would say that it really is not a hotel, but a small complex of apartments in a very isolated part of the island. We had a two bedroom apartment which comes with one normal size and one very large bedroom , two bathrooms, adequate kitchen and dining area, certainly adequate for four , or in our case four adults and child. The accommodation was very clean with daily maid service . The bedrooms had air conditioners. The apartment comes with a minimal continental breakfast.
The staff was very attentive to our needs. We arrived late and requested dinner on arrival, and even though it was later than expected, Beverly was on hand to serve it. We ate most of our meals here and Monica , the cook prepared excellent meals every evening. Her food was as good as we could have got at Cane Garden Bay, the next tourist resort area., and very much cheaper. We told her in the morning what we would like, and in all cases she prepared an excellent meal. In particular her Creole shrimp, and chicken breast stuffed with spinach are worth trying.
The immediate area around the complex is very beautiful because of the proximity to the mountains. There is some landscaping around the apartments, but also some unfinished buildings which make the area appear neglected. The pool is very small, and really not usable.
Near by small farms encroach on the grounds and there are the occasional chickens and roosters and cow walking by. The roosters certainly wake one up early in the morning and for those from the city it takes some time getting used to it.. This was our only complaint
The apartment complex is not on the beach but a little inland, a 5 minutes walk. At the entrance to the beach area there are again lots of chickens, even an occasional cow on the beach. The beach is on a beautiful bay, with golden sand, and great for snorkeling. It is superior to the beach at Cane Gardens , much quieter and cleaner although when cruise ships are docking in Road Town buses arrive with day tourists. The beach bar, “Nicoles” serves excellent hamburgers and other snacks at a very reasonable price. It is also clean and well kept.
If you want a quiet vacation in the Caribbean, no night life, with “ home” comforts this is the place. It would be ideal for couples with children, or families. It is difficult to drive to, the roads are bad and very twisting, and taxis are quite expensive. This is not for those wanting evening “fun”, reggai bands etc. However I highly recommend this “bit of paradise”. We were treated like family.

I was told there would be no cancellation fee for a one night stay. I was supposed to stay there on January 5th 2008 and they swiped my credit card on January 3. When I cancelled, they still charged my credit card. I called the manager/owner, who was very nasty and she said she doesn't care - the money belongs to her. She was so rude I would never consider staying in that hotel. When I went there to try to get my money back, I was shocked at how dirty it was, especially around the pool area. Previously, when I tried to call, no one answered the phones.

Ok, this not the Ritz or some fancy smancy hotel in New York or Miami. It is small and quaint. The rooms were clean and simple.
The honeymoon suite was nice but we had to move because the A/C didn't cool it like we thought it should. Allison, Beverly, Prudence and Malcolm were all great, went out of their way to help. Breakfasts were excellent and we had them cook us some fish we caught one night for dinner which was also excellent.
When you have only a few guests you can't have full menu all the time. I do have to agree the pool sucked and a few things could have been upgraded but overall its a nice place to kick back and relax. Brewers Bay is one of the best beaches around, snorkeling is fair and the beach is clean and uncrowded.
Nicoles is a great place to drink and eat burgers. If you like crowds and noise and fancy smancy you need to go somewhere else.

We went to Icis Villas and left the same day - this place is very misrepresented on their website and brochure. The photos shown in their ads must be from at least 10 years ago. No maintenance has been done since then evidently. The owner was extrememly rude and would not listen to our disatisfaction. We were killing palmetto bugs in our room, the wooden walkway looks like our old dock and the pool was terrible - sand, algae and unclean. You could NOT go in the pool. It is far from the beach and Brewers bay is the worst - unclean beach on Tortola with a "squatters" campground that is a urine cesspool. Icis villas seemed very unsafe - no in room safes, our connecting door looked like it had been bust in and they had to try 3 keys until one fit our front door. Unbelievablely horrible! Do not stay at Icis! We went to the BVI tourist board the next day and filed a complaint - BVI tourist board said"they had had trouble with Icis villas before" Our agent described an incident with his own family staying at Icis when the pool was extremely unclean. The grounds are overgrown and unkept. The manager told us "if the chef shows up, we will take dinner reservations at 3". The remote location and lack of staff and service made a stay here impossible - we left for good - perhaps loosing money - 2 day nonrefundable deposit. We will never go to Icis and suggest you stay away!!!

We (parents and two twelve year olds) just returned from Spring Break. We spent Easter weekend at Icis Villas, Tortola, and were pleased.
The rooms are nicely appointed and very clean. The grounds are beautiful and the staff extremely pleasant.
The Villas sit a short (less than 5 minute) walk from the beach on a paved driveway.
I recommend the Villas if you are looking for a quiet stay near a beautiful, uncrowded beach. Cabs cost only cost $6 per person from Road Town, but be warned that the drive is one of the most steep on the Island.
