“Stunning view and laid-back charm”
Reviewed 25 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

We were 2 couples travelling together, and this was a great set up. We took the upper house, and our friends were in the cottage below. We were greeted by the property's agent, who was extremely detailed in his orientation upon arrival. In addition to tending to a couple of maintenance items, he was a pleasant advocate for tourism around the island. The furnishings, in terms of furniture, kitchen items, etc. were exactly as we expected. We left the doors wide open to enjoy the breezes, and were able to interact with some little lizards and a bird that way. The view, especially at night, was great. We enjoyed all of our meals on the deck, and played cards there as well. Having a good internet connection kept us as connected as we needed to be for our work, but we were still able to feel disconnected at the same time. Once we got the hang of driving on the British side of the road, navigatin those narrow, steep roads was pretty easy, and this house was a good central location for exploring the island. I would definitely recommend it. (The only drawback we had was the requirement of a wire transfer for the final payment instead of a credit card. Our little bank couldn't handle the transfer, so we had to make other plans...kind of a drag.)

Liked best: Views and the deck

Reservations are very easy - communication is done via e-mail, the owners are prompt to respond.
Arrival - you have to have a vehicle, we rented ours from Jerry's - got picked up at the West End. The drive to the villa is about 15 min from there, through Apple, Carrot, and Cane Garden Bays. When the road that goes through the Cane Garden Bay goes uphill, keep going almost to the very end of the hill, there will be a very sharp left turn with a sign to Brewers Bay, take that left and drive until you see the road split (a minute or two really), the one to the right will go to Brewers Bay and downhill, the one straight will go uphill. At this intersection look to your left and you will see a sign that says Makere, make a left into the driveway, and after a short descent you will have arrived. The property has a gate which is recommended to be kept closed so that cows and a local horse do not wonder in.
Location - perhaps the best in Tortola. The drive to Road Town is about 20 min to the supermarket, to the airport 40 min, Cane Garden Bay is 5 min away, so is Brewers Bay (excellent snorkeling and very quiet)... It is high enough that there is constant breeze which is refreshing and pleasant. Most importantly, it keeps mosquitoes away from you. You can really feel the difference between the mugginess of the flatland by the beach late in the afternoon and fresh air up in the hills.
There are two houses on the property - on the main level and there is a cottage on the pool level with steps leading down. There were 5 of us, 4 adults and a 7 yo girl. More than enough space for everyone. The house upstairs does not have AC, the cottage does, but we did not use it - there is really no need, the breeze gets cool enough at night. Laundry under the main house.
Pool is large enough for cooling off at the end of the day, there is a deck with chairs next to it. Ample space.
Kitchen - fully stocked upstairs and downstairs, including some alcoholic beverages, spices, basic utensils. We cooked every breakfast and several dinners w/o any problems. Surprisingly enough, not many fishermen sell fresh fish off the docks... We found a guy up in the Carrot Bay who brings his dinghy back at about 3:30 in the afternoon, and he's got a cooler filled with fresh catches - go there at 3:30, you will get fresh fish, otherwise, it will have to be the supermarket.
Manager - Mobbsie requires a separate review. He is an amazing man - very hospitable, very helpful, genuinely nice. Talk to him - he is a wealth of knowledge about the island. He lives a few minutes away. He keeps the things in working condition on the villa and responds to all the requests. The knives were quite dull when we got there, asked him, the next day everything is sharpened. The pool gets vacuumed and cleaned every second day. There is maid service Saturdays, and a gardener comes in during the week for the day to care for the grounds.
The grounds are beautiful as well - there is a starfruit tree, mango tree, banana palms... Fresh mango every morning is not a bad way to start the day.
The view is magnificent - the pictures dont lie.
There are DVD's, books, games for late night activities...
What else? Lots of lizards, small ones, harmless and fun to watch... They eat the bugs. The island does not have any poisonous snakes, which is certainly a plus. Neighbors? Too far to even notice. There is a villa above, you can see it from the beginning of the driveway, otherwise it is perfectly private.
WiFi worked and very fast. Additionally, I was actually able to pick up the Sprint signal from St. Thomas on the main deck.
I would/will stay there again.
