“Nanny Cay Hotel - good choice for business traveller as well as tourist”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2013

Tortola is an island without Branded hotels and most people are only staying one night before chartering a boat or after returning a boat and so this very pleasant hotel is basic by North American Standards but perfectly by most Caribbean standards with en-suite shower, mini kitchen (wet bar) and free wireless internet plus comfortable bed and a porch-balcony over looking a grassed garden.

Within the grounds are the following sailing club restaurant for fancy dinning, small shop, gift shops and a burger ( more down to earth bar but closes by 9pm) Surrounding area has restaurants see later review.

I always stay here when I visit the island on business and hence stay for a week or more at a time and so this a good place to work in the evening as it is very quiet, while a little out of town for walking and therefore a car is needed.

I can recommend this place for both one nighters and as well people who want a location to explore Tortola without the noise of normal tourist hotels or are visiting on a business trip and need to work.

Tortola is expensive to buy your food so bring basics with you. Local off location restaurants while appear a little rough offer good value and remember this the caribbean so local are friendly.

Room Tip: Choose a room set back from the dock if you are staying for several nights as holiday makers on the...

This resort is fine enough for the basics, but it's really pretty far from downtown and not within walking distance. Especially since there aren't any sidewalks.
The Nanny Cay has a small outside near the beach but the waitress wasn't the most friendly person going and the bar closes pretty early.
The rooms are pretty basic and if you have Verizon as your cell carrier, be prepared for spotty coverage everywhere.
The dining options on the resort consist of one restaurant and another one that's near the marina. However it has limited hours and again, the wait staff move at their own speed.
The beach and pool are pretty well maintained, but you need your own beach towels and there lounge chairs don't appear to have ever been cleaned.
The bottom line here is that place will do if there are no other options or you enjoy sitting around in the evening in absolute silence,

We had to get our sailboat fixed and spent the night. It's off season so the rate was only $115! Everyone was so kind, quiet, reserved but also witty, efficient. Couldn't figure out the TV, coffee maker and the ice machine. Immediately a staff person helped us...

Room was very quiet, ocean view. The AC was powerful. Other hotels charge for bottled water...two free cold ones in the refrigerator!

The grounds are clean, well manicured. If you are expecting a sandy white beach don't come here. This is a working marina, not a pampering spa for rich people. It has everything a boater needs.

Great roti at their restaurant. Pool lovely.

It was just so relaxing....and the boat was fixed...

This hotel is about 3 miles east of Road Town. It is very cute and has everything you need. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and with all the basic amenities. It includes a small balcony, refrigeration, microwave, 2 beds, sofa, private bathroom, air conditioned, ect.
It is away from the town, so it is calm and quiet.
The price is reasonable, somewhat lower than what you would find in the main town (Road Town).
However, since you are a bit away from town, I would recommend a car for getting around.

We stayed at Nanny Cay twice, before and after a Tradewinds cruise. Both rooms were spacious and had microwave and fridge, stocked with complimentary water, for which we were grateful. One of the rooms also had a sink and cabinets of dishes. Both had TV and coffee maker. There is no elevator, so we did have to carry bags to upstairs room.

Ceilings were high and vaulted...lots of wood, French doors opening to patios, and shutters for windows and doors. Rooms were spacious; bathrooms had shower/toilet and separate sink area. Bedding was very comfortable. Caribbean green, lavender, white, and blue give a cheerful appearance.

There is a fitness room on site. We didn't use it.

The pool is over a little bridge down the marina from the hotel. The sign says $10 to use, but it's free if you are staying at the hotel. Good pool/beach bar.

No restaurant on site, but Genakers and another restaurant are in the immediate marina area. There is a small grocery by Genakers and another by the Tradewinds offices. A dive shop and other shops are located on the marina area. It's a very picturesque area.

The staff was helpful but not chatty. If you areTradewinds, you will need to ask for the discount. Also, you are asked to pay $10 for a TV remote and get it back when you return the remote. Tile floors were very clean, free of sand and grit. Good air conditioning in 90+ degree heat.

The hotel location was VERY convenient to Tradewinds, but it is nearly all the way across Tortola from the airport, so allow 40 min. to an hour for the trip. George's taxi was there to pick us up at 10:15 to the minute.

Room Tip: Be aware that there is no elevator, but 2nd floor rooms had lovely vaulted ceilings.

Nanny Cay is amongst the finest marinas in the British Virgin Islands, if not the world. Ideally located within perfect sailing waters, with lots of excellent little shops, restaurants and other facilities, including the very relaxed beach bar, Nanny Cay is extremely hard to beat for value for money.
