“Good start to a great adventure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2012

We stayed at the Mariner Inn the night before we went out on a bareboat charter with The Moorings.
The hotel is clean, our room was spacious (had an ocean side suite) and the staff was super nice and helpful.
The beds were awesome (if you like soft beds). The bathroom was great.
Temperature control in the rooms were fantastic.
In general, food is mediocre and pricey in the BVIs.
The Charles was slightly above average on both points.
The hotel restaurant (near the pool) was good and a bit more reasonable.
Convenience is the reason to stay here for sure.
On and off the boat with little trouble.
Certainly will do this again.

This was my 7th visit to Tortola and the first at the Mariner Inn at the Moorings; the room had obviusly been recently renovated so I was quite comfortable and the view over the mariner was nice. Had dinner at Charlies restaurant 2 nights and have to say food and service was mediocre at best.

Spend two nights here, really rested as the beds were so comfy - possibly the best we've found. Room service maids were lovely. Dated but clean, lacked wifi (or we couldn't find it) just needs a little investment to update the rooms, but I'd go back because the staff were so friendly and the beds were so comfy. The restaurants nearby were a little pricey but its not too far from town so there are alternatives.

Stayed for five days and during a very difficult time for my boyfriend and I, we were made to feel very comfortable. Al was amazing and kept check to see that we had everything we needed. The room was absolutely beautiful with a view of the marina and updated fixtures throughout. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone just needing to get away. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures but will do that the next time we go back.

Stayed in the 'garden view' section. Rooms are large and the second floor has vaulted ceilings, but is very dated and expensive for the quality. There is a good size 'kitchenette'. Each room has a porch or balcony depending on which of two floors; unfortunately there is no privacy as you can walk from one to another.

Beds are comfy, but starting at 3:30 AM the very loud rooster made it impossible to sleep, even with ear plugs. This was a big reason for the 'poor' review. The shower didn't drain well and required almost no water pressure to not back up. The toilet handle stuck open several times.

The 'location' next to the Moorings marina is basically the only reason you'd want to stay at this hotel. They have a pool, but it isn't anything fancy. There are two restaurants; Charlies being way too expensive and they won't even bring you tap water with your meal. The Marina restaurant next to the pool had a good 'bar' menu with more reasonably priced food and we ate there three times during our stay. Unfortunately it cost the group $40 cab fare @ $5 per person to go anywhere else, so this came in handy.

The front desk clerk was excellent and I was very impressed when she remembered my first name the next morning when I stopped in for a map. Where else do you get that!

I had read many, many bad reviews on this location, but decided to stay regardless because of the ease of the location. My husband and I arrived with pretty low expectations, but had the attitude that we were going to kill them with kindness and treated everyone fairly and with respect; and that's what we got back.
Check in was easy, they grabbed our bags and we went straight to our room. It was surprisingly nice, clean and comfortable. We had a marina view and it was very nice. We also enjoyed the balcony space and had an evening cocktail and our morning coffee there.
Check out was just as easy and we were on our way to a wonderful adventure in the BVIs!
The staff was nice, friendly and welcoming. It exceeded our expectations.

Room Tip: The marina and "ocean view" rooms have been renovated and were very nice. The "ocean...

We spent three nights in the Mariner Inn as part of a sailing education adventure. From our late night arrival (nearly 11 PM) to our 5 AM departure, the service staff members were always available, friendly and happy to help. Al and George were the most frequent responders to our requests and no request was too big or too small.

The associated Mariner's Restaurant and Charlie's also provided good food and reasonable pricing for the location. Again, the service at both was excellent and very attentive.

The negative reviews on your site do not reflect the excellent service we received.
