Owner description: The most intact historic ruin on Tortola was built by the Dutch in the early 17th century to safeguard Road Harbour. It sits on a hill at the western edge of Road Town and is now the site of a small hotel and restaurant. The foundations and magazine remain, and the structure offers a commanding view of the harbor. COST: Free. Daily dawn-dusk.

Fort Burt once guarded the mouth of Road Harbour. ( I have to guard my own mouth!) It was constructed by the Dutch, and later rebuilt by the English,, who annexed the islands in1672. Only the foundations remain now.

Do not expect any fort like in Funchal or in St-Martin or in Antigua as the fort became a restaurant with just 2 benches and this nice view over the road. But it is not worth to walk 2 kms or to take a bus from Tortola center to get to it, really not!

Stayed here after a sailing trip fro a couple of nights to explore Tortola. The hotel is built on the remains of an old Dutch fort which used to guard the harbor. The view over the water is excellent. The rooms are clean but basic, service is also good and the location is very good. Overall, I've stayed here on two occasions and would stay again.

We arrived at 14.00 and we drove up the steep access and was about to reverse into the parking area when a member of staff directed me to a spot on the other side of the Fort which took just one car. It was also shaded so a win win.

We made enquires if we could have lunch and the friendly lady waiter was very helpful. Instead of eating in the restaurant we opted for a table on the bar terrace.

Three of our party had grilled Salmon and salad, two had burgers with fries. The food was delicious and the service was excellent with an amazing panoramic view over Road Town harbour and harbour entrance.

The features of the old fort still exist and it is clear why the position was chosen. We also enjoyed a strong breeze which was most welcome.

We stayed one night here before getting on a charter at Conch Charters. This is a VERY basic hotel, which appears to have been little updated since the 1970s. It is cheap, not particularly clean but does tick the basic box for a low cost night.
Please do temper expectations as not plush at all.
