“we be back”
Reviewed 14 May 2013

We left Frenchmans, Tortola yesterday and already planning to come back at the beginning of next year,Very cozy, well maintend private territory, Villa has everything you need for your stay, perfect , well equipped kitchen, nice, clean linen, spacious bathrooms, (loved shower gel).
We loved loved breakfast!!Evereday something different , Every dish has some chefs "home" touch, nice presentation, enjoyed nice European type coffee (thank god ,no large mugs with a "coffee drink" like in NY),
Once we had dinner , ordered different dishes and loved it. Chefs talent is a big contribution in Frenchmans success.
And the last - big thanks to all Frenchmans serving staff, very proffesional french lady - administrator, restaurant servers are just a sweet hearts, you'll fell in love , Lucille - like your sister, bartender Karen is a great conversationalist, has a sense of humor, we had a pleasure enjoy drinks and had a good time.
Room attendants are very polite, kind of "invisible:you seel a result but don't see them. Thanks a lot.
What else you need? Only vacation days, and plane tickets. Next time hope we'll stay couple days longer.
We felt safe in Tortola. People who live here are very accomodating, polite.
Big hug
Aurelia and her "gang"

This smallish property is just incredibly lovely. We stayed here for the second time at the end of April. Our first stay was great, this was smashing! So relaxing. This trip we were in Sugar Apple, a two bedroom, two bath, three balcony (!!!) villa. Way too much space for just the two of us, but we enjoyed every second of it. These accommodations have a full kitchen. Great to bring snack, lunch and cocktail materials back and relax on one of those balconies with the gorgeous views. I am particularly finicky about hotel beds and linens and these were excellent.

The last time we stayed here the restaurant was not open. This time we very much enjoyed the morning breakfast, included in your rate. Each day was a "surprise" special hot breakfast if you did not wish to have the granola, fruit or toast otherwise offered. The specials included breakfast burritos, mango pancakes, and roasted vegetable omelets. They were all excellent and it was fun to have a morning surprise each day. We had dinner at the Clubhouse twice and felt it was good, not great. Seemed to be trying a little too hard to be "gourmet." We would have loved to see a simple grilled mahi and more salad choices.

The beach is very small but pretty. There are kayaks available and we took one out one day. We paddled towards Sopers Hole, the marina nearby, but gave up before we got there. The seating at the beach is great and we loved sitting there reading quietly and dipping in the water or the pool late in the afternoon. Often felt as if this were our private beach and pool.

Staff is tremendous. Thank you Nadia for all the questions you patiently answered! Julisa and Chris are also excellent resources and could not have been more responsive with helping us plan our visit, car rental, ferry questions, dining reservations, etc.

We have been fortunate enough to stay in many fine hotels in the Caribbean. Frenchman's ranks very near the top for its style and ambiance. If we feel the hotel might be enough alone to draw us back to a destination, we have certainly found a winner. Frenchman's is just one of those!

I have no way to describe how wonderful Frenchman's is. We visited for a week in early February 2013, we were in the Mango villa and could not be happier. If I had my way in life, I would live in that villa. Everything was perfect, down to the lizard that lived on the bathroom shutter. I cannot think of anything that would have made Frenchman's better than it was. The villas were immaculately clean and so luxurious. There are only AC units in the bedrooms, but we didn’t even need to use them, we just opened our windows. The clubhouse (restaurant) was beyond belief and the cocktails were superb. Their breakfasts are different every day and I was never disappointed. I wish I had something bad to say but there was nothing negative. The closest thing I have to a complaint was the beach area was minimal but there was still plenty of room to relax and take the sun. The Villa's balcony was perfect to sit out on and have a drink (A market in Soper's hole is very close and has everything you need for snacks, drinks, and even full meals). The week we stayed there was the best week of my life. Be sure to take advantage of the free wine and snacks. I wish I lived at Frenchman's Cay. Go there, you won’t be sorry.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mango Villa, but all looked like they were similar.

Although we didn't actually get to stay here as they were fully booked we did visit for the afternoon and the staff at the resort were very friendly and helpful. The resort is set in a quiet location close to Sopers Hole /ferry dock in the West End giving access to St Thomas etc.

They have around 9 villas of varying size but beautifully decorated etc and while we visited it literally felt like we had the place to ourselves as people were tucked away in quiet locations around the grounds. There is a small pool and tiny beach and the restaurant is independent to the hotel although they work in harmony. The gardens around the resort are beautiful and there is also a tennis court if you need a work out!
We spoke to other people who had stayed at this resort and they were repeat visitors.

This is a small resort with only 7 beautifully decorated but simple units, a top notch chef (they only serve dinner Wed - Sat nights and Sunday brunch). We go to Tortola to swim (but not in a pool). This was the one spot on the island perfect for swimming in the ocean when a storm had the surfers thrilled with 10 foot waves (making waters less than ideal or downright unsafe for swimming). It's located on the sheltered south side and is on a good (not fabulous) snorkeling spot. There's a sheltered area for swimming in salt water and for kids. They have kayaks available too. We loved the wonderful warm hospitality of all the staff, swimming, snorkeling, food and the absolutely peaceful garden setting.

My fiance-turned-husband and I stayed at Frenchmans for 7 days at the end of February. We got married on the beach at Frenchmans. The view from the point is nothing short of amazing! We stayed in Star Fruit, a 1-bedroom cottage. The resort is great--it isn't crowded because there are only 9 cottages. There is a lot of beautiful foliage and that is well-maintained and adds to the quiant character of the place. There are a few things I found odd or needs-improvement about the cottage itself. The stairs to the second floor are extremely narrow and steep. This could be a problem for some. The closet space is small, and there isn't a dresser of drawers or anything to put your things if you wish to unpack them. And, there isn't a lot of floor space to just leave your luggage sitting. Again, these are just things I noticed, but they certainly weren't enough to give this gem of a resort less than a 5-star rating. The "continental" breakfast each morning is dynamite!! And, if you're a coffee fanatic--they roast and grind their own beans and serve it in a French press. Coffee at home just hasn't been the same since, and I don't think it's just the scenery! The staff at Frenchmans is what really sets it above any hotel or resort I've stayed in. They are very attentive to your every need--they'll make dinner reservations, arrange excursions, and just give you tips about the islands. You'll get to know them personally if you stay long enough. Definitely visit Karen for happy hour. And, Lucilla has the brightest smile each morning at breakfast. Nadia, Julissa, and Chris are fabulous and always available if you need something. The beach at the resort is rocky, so wear some flip flops or water shoes. But, it has a great view of sailboats thoughout the day, and is never crowded. So, grab a cabana and a good book from the front desk! The kayaks are fun too. I highly recommend snorkeling just off the pier (again wear water shoes) where you can see some beautiful fish! This resort was perfect for us--very romantic, uncrowded, and child-less! We couldn't have chosen a better place as our wedding desitination! My tips: Sopers Hole is walking distance, but rent a car for a few days--there are lovely beaches and dinner-spots on the north side of the island. Renting a car is less than taking taxis all the time. There is a market at Sopers Hole for snack items. And, be sure to make dinner reservations for the restaurant at Frenchmans. It's good and they get booked quickly!

Frenchman's is a BVI gem a couple of minutes from Soper's Hole in the West End of Tortola in the BVI. The hotel is a collection of newly-renovated free-standing cottages (i.e. no shared floors/ceilings/walls). Our villa, the "Sugar Apple," was a 2 bedroom with a kitchenette and two decks.

We only stayed 4 nights -- if we had stayed longer, it would have been a great alternative to renting a house as it has full maid service and we could have cooked our own meals (and still have option to dine at "The Clubhouse" restaurant on site). The hotel staff (Chris and Julisa) were outstanding and the food by Chef Paul was the best we had on the island.

My only word of caution is to make sure you CALL the Ferry services before you travel between islands. The ferry services change on a whim (not at all a fault of the hotel, but be warned).

Room Tip: All accommodations are standalone bungalows and all have similar views and amenities. Not sure you...
