So many great things to say about Frenchmans Cay Resort it's hard to know where to begin.
My fiance and I spent a full week there June 16-23 with 15 additional guests filling the resort by Wednesday/Thursday and we were married up at the tip of the rocky point on Friday evening, with reception dinner at the Clubhouse. It was an absolute fairy tale adventure event come true and every single member of our group had a blast and loved the resort. I'll break things down as best I can by category.

THE COTTAGES: All of the cottages were immaculately clean. The bed sheets were like butter and the mattresses like marshmallows. We slept like angels. The living area and kitchen/dining areas were perfect size and the decor wonderful, with utensils galore, all clean, and loved the complimentary items in the fridge and snack drawers. Bathroom/shower was wonderful. We stayed in Sugar Apple with its 3 decks and spent hours hours out there sipping drinks and admiring the breathtaking views. Sugar Apple is central to the cottages and right beside the path to the Clubhouse, and with its 3 decks really makes a great hub of the resort. Guava and Lime were both excellent as well, with quite possibly the most incredible views of the magnificent turquoise waters in the channel, and Guava has a nice private deck with the hanging basket chairs. Passion Fruit, Star Fruit, Mango and Pineapple were also cozy cottages. Basically, you just can't go wrong with any of them, but if I had choice again, I would go Sugar Apple again or Lime for a double and Guava for a single just for the views. The rooms all had easy safes to use, plenty of closet space, etc. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

THE STAFF: We were greeted on arrival by Sweet Sweet Julisa, who gave us the cottage tour and made sure we were ok, full of smiles and warmth. Next day we met Sweet Sweet Nadia who attended to our every question and need with the grace of a cool tropical breeze. And then we met Smiling Happy Chris, who immediately fixed our fridge after we messed it up and who arranged for our water taxi upon leaving after the ferries let everyone down, turning a chaotic nightmare into a great way to return to St Thomas. Julisa, Nadia, and Chris are among the finest resort staff and finest people you will ever meet. We miss them already. We met the General Manager Scott on Monday and he could not have been more professional or friendlier. He took us to the dock and pointed out the best snorkeling spots. He asked if our maid service that day was satisfactory and we told him we turned the maids away because we had hardly messed up our cottage yet beyond a few champagne glasses and the bed, and told him the phone in our cottage wasn't working. So then we went to Road Town to process some marriage paperwork and when we got back we found Scott in our cottage repairing the phone, he brought us 2 sets of snorkeling gear, and had the maids clean our cottage, wash the glasses and make our bed. It was then that we realized the level of dedication and service that Frenchmans provides. Scott would not tolerate us enjoying anything but the best during our stay and his actions helped "break us in" to what this resort is all about. The maids were friendly and like ghosts, in and out so that you hardly noticed they were there, and the groundskeeping workers were the same. Just shoot them a smile and a Hello, some common courtesy, and you're off an running. The staff at Frenchmans was as much a part of our stay as the water and the wind. You all are BEST :-)

THE CLUBHOUSE: So, Chef Paul, when will you and your crew be coming to Pennsylvania? Let us know because we'll have rooms ready for you. My fiance (now wife) enjoyed complimentary breakfasts of mushroom omelettes, homemade muffins, homemade fruit syrups, hashbrowns, Canadian bacon, coconut French Toast, breakfast burritos, homemade fruit juice, pressed coffee, and so on. What a wonderful way to start the day with these delicious morning meals, an incredible view of the sea and the swaying palm trees, served daily by Sweet Sweet Lucilla (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) who happily attended to our dining needs all week long. Our first dinner we had Tuesday I enjoyed a shrimp appetizer unlike anything I'd had before and a magnificent tenderloin steak. My vegetarian fiance had the most tasty salad of her life along with a plate of mixed veggies that she almost floated up out of her seat for. After that dinner I feared my fiance might ditch me and run off with Chef Paul, but I wanted to run off him with too after my shrimp and steak, and he couldn't decide which of us to run off with so he just stayed put and kept creating dazzling meals with his assistant Prince, while we had a few more cocktails and dessert. Lovely bartender Karen made me a big potent margarita that had me buzzed halfway through and she was pleasant as could be. Our reception dinner Friday evening blew our guests away, with more of the tasty salads, shrimp apps, tenderloin steaks, pork apps and tuna steaks, finished with key lime pie, homemade ice cream and coffee (and cocktails!). Afterwards many of our party brought some drinks down to the lagoon beach and just hung out until midnight with the full moon glittering on the water and lounging on the beach chairs. What an absolutely magical time! Chef Paul puts heart and soul into his preparation, presentation, and delivery of some outstanding food. More of an experience than a meal. And his crew keeps pace right along with him.

THE RESORT AND AREA: The resort grounds are gorgeous, well kept with beautiful trees, shrubs and greenery. Little lizards bouncing around here and there, the birds all over the water and skies. The lagoon and the beach there were a perfect place to catch the sun, have some drinks, great for the 2 little kids of our party to play in and with the kayaks, or to teach someone to snorkel, and there were even some good fish to see in the lagoon. Snorkeling right off the dock was phenomenal! All kinds of fish and coral and sea life as soon as you pop your head under. Be careful of sea urchins, but just walk straight out from the dock and you're fine. I do suggest you use a good pair of water shoes/socks though because it is a little rocky on the bottom, so we found water shoes/socks easier to maneuver in than the fins. Soper's Hole Marina just a 2 minute drive from Frenchmans (you could walk there in 10-15 minutes tops) was a quiet cute little place to spend time at. They have Harbor Market which had all of our needs to supply our cottages for our stay, Pussers which provided great casual outdoor dining (service a bit slow, but we were a big party - you just need to adapt a bit to island time and order another cocktail; food was a mixed bag, some excellent, some average - go for the potato chip spiral, flat iron steak and the tiger shrimp), and there are some nice little gift shops and other services among the grand view of pristine white sailboats and catamarans. Don't forget to slip the marina cats a morsel or two.

SUMMARY: Well, I could go on and on and you're probably bored of this review by now. In our opinion, after researching numerous resorts on numerous islands all over the Caribbean for a good 6-9 months, our instincts told us Frenchmans was the right place that would deliver the flawless unforgettable experience that we wanted for our wedding and for our guests. We were RIGHT! If you are the type of person who would complain to God that the clouds in Heaven aren't puffy enough, well, then go somewhere else and bother those people. If, however, you are normal and have an ounce of common courtesy and common appreciation for the wonderful things in life, then go to Frenchmans and, if possible, take as many of your closest funnest family and friends and go enjoy an unforgettable experience. Frenchmans will forever be in our hearts and spirit, along with all of the people who work there, and WE WILL BE BACK JUST AS SOON AS WE CAN :-)

While there are a lot of good things to be said about Frenchmans, I definitely found myself making a pro and con list as there are several drawbacks to the resort.

Pros – Beautiful views. Really comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. Close to the ferry and to Soper’s Hole.

Cons – The beach is extremely small and the water only goes up to your low waist at its deepest. While they advertise for snorkeling and kayaking at this beach, because of the currents and choppiness of the water, we were not ever able to venture out. This was really disappointing. The villas also have several design problems that after a few days became quite a nuisance. The furniture and doors all seemed to have rough edges that would stick out perfectly for someone to run into or scrape against. By the end of the week, my husband broke his toe on the couch and I had a deep bruise and scratch on my arm from the door handle. The kitchen also lacked pretty basic utensils for cooking meals in.

One suggestion for the hotel would be to have beach chairs available for guests to use if they venture to other beaches on the island. My family really enjoyed exploring all the beaches that Tortola has to offer – Long Bay Beach, Smuggler’s Cove, Josiah’s, Apple Bay, and Brewer’s Bay – we spent a day at each! It would have made a big difference if we could have thrown some chairs in our SVU to take with us to these amazing beaches.

We had an amazing week exploring Tortola, but really didn't spend much of our time at the hotel since we couldn't swim the beach. I’m not sure I’d stay here again given the price.

Lovely views, though!

We are a couple around 30-ish years old and stayed at Frenchmans while on our Honeymoon at the start of May. We had come a long way from Australia to visit and we are glad we stayed at Frenchmans. We booked the Honeymoon package which we thought was excellent value because car hire is a must and Frenchmans organised it for us and had it waiting at the hotel upon our arrival. The in room massages were also great so was the charter yacht for the day to Norman Island!

If we stayed at Tortola again, we would definately go back to Frenchmans. The staff are all very friendly and eager to help. We stayed in a one bedroom villa which was very well fitted out and extremely comfortable! The only thing about the room we didnt like was the steep and narrow stairs where a lot of caution was needed when going up or down. It was difficult to get a suitcase up them without assistance but we managed. Other than that, everything was fantastic! The view was incredible and the handy location to Sopers Hole for groceries, a bite to eat or a bit of shopping was excellent. We caught the ferry to West End from St Thomas and Frenchmans wasnt far from the terminal in a taxi, only about 2 minutes!

Thanks to the whole team for a fantastic stay!

First I will talk about the positives, great villa that is fully equipped. The view is to die for and since you are on a Cay there is water all around you except behind you, The food at the restaurant is french/Caribbean inspired, it was the best- beware dieters. Breakfast was included with the room and what an event, a foodies delight!!! The staff were the nicest people and I felt like they wanted to make you feel at home always. The Frenchman's is located a 15 minute walk to Soper's Hole were there are shops, restaurants, a grocery store and sailboat excursions to other islands.
The slight non-positive (for me it turned out to be awesome) was that the beach is small and the swimming area is breaked by rocks because the water has a strong current. This is great for kids, But if you love long white beaches this is not the place. However, if you love to snorkel this is where you will be very happy. All around the water's edge is great snorkeling, but be aware the current is strong so make sure you where fins. We loved it here and will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in "Passion Fruit" for 2 people and the view was phenomenal. I do believe that all the villas are ocean view.

We left Frenchmans, Tortola yesterday and already planning to come back at the beginning of next year,Very cozy, well maintend private territory, Villa has everything you need for your stay, perfect , well equipped kitchen, nice, clean linen, spacious bathrooms, (loved shower gel).
We loved loved breakfast!!Evereday something different , Every dish has some chefs "home" touch, nice presentation, enjoyed nice European type coffee (thank god ,no large mugs with a "coffee drink" like in NY),
Once we had dinner , ordered different dishes and loved it. Chefs talent is a big contribution in Frenchmans success.
And the last - big thanks to all Frenchmans serving staff, very proffesional french lady - administrator, restaurant servers are just a sweet hearts, you'll fell in love , Lucille - like your sister, bartender Karen is a great conversationalist, has a sense of humor, we had a pleasure enjoy drinks and had a good time.
Room attendants are very polite, kind of "invisible:you seel a result but don't see them. Thanks a lot.
What else you need? Only vacation days, and plane tickets. Next time hope we'll stay couple days longer.
We felt safe in Tortola. People who live here are very accomodating, polite.
Big hug
