“looked cool but was a dump”

We pulled up on a Dingy because it looked cool passing by. We felt very unwelcome. The place was fairly dead other then a family on the beach and the employees acted like we asked them to do hard labor when we asked to buy some drinks. There were flees all over the beach (seriously). The goats and cats wondering the place looked like they were starving. My wife felt terrible for them. We felt a little uneasy and unsafe there. I agree with some of the other reviews that it is hard to understand with such a great location why it is such a dump. The only thing I do not agree with them about was why anyone would order food there. It looked very unsanitary. Also I could not help but look at the starving goats and think about the meat in those burgers.

Pulled up in a dinghy and enjoyed a beautifully cooked snapper sandwich and a rum punch - all while enjoying a stunning view of the North Sound. We were practically the only people there, I guess because it's not serviced by the water taxis so you need to find your own way over.

Great Locations... very laid back... only omes there on our two visits in early Dec... a bit early for the season. Good reputation. Disn't eat. Worth a beer stop. Fun goats wandering around

We've been to Sandbox numerous times for drinks on the beach. The service has always been good and drinks cold and well made. This is a rustic place, so it has never occurred to me to eat there. We go for the beauty and quiet. There are cats and goats all over BVI, so I don't see how you can blame the Sandbox for this. There are flamingos over in the salt pond near Saba, though it is easier to get to them by dingy directly to that beach. Prickly Pear Island where this is located is a National Park, so it is undeveloped except for Sand Box and mostly untouched.

We stopped in for lunch at The Sand Box restaurant while sailing the BVI on Thanksgiving week. I ordered two fish sandwiches that were posted on the blackboard without prices. The waitress said they were out of fish so we ordered 2 hamburgers (without cheese or bacon) and 2 cokes. The bill came to $36. We couldn't eat the burgers because they were mixed with a breading to make it fit in the roll. The waitress also turned out to be the cook. A one person operation. A little girl a few tables away stepped on broken glass on the beach. The dozen or so goats were cute until we stepped into their dung. Starving cats roamed the beach. A very unhealthy experience.
