I first visited Saba Rock about a year ago and liked it then. Just revisited and found that it was better than I remembered. Firstly the location is fantastic, at the eastern end of Gorda Sound, as pretty a place as you could wish to visit. We went ashore for some lunch and were greeted very warmly. The service overall was excellent, friendly and efficient. We both ordered burgers, mine came with Brie and caramelised onions, my partners with cheddar and chipotle. Both were excellent, possibly one of the best burgers I've eaten.

We returned for happy hour - half price cocktails and to watch the staff feed the giant tarpon. Great atmosphere.

So far my favourite pit stop in the BVI's

First of all, you have to realize that Saba Rock is a small island in the middle of the bay, that consists of a small hotel, restaurant, bar and a shop...with a lot of parking for dingys....that's it. You must get there either by mooring your own boat and taking your dingy over or catching the free launch from Gun Creek. We caught the launch, which was about a 15 minute ride. Once we got there, it was time to enjoy Happy Hour and sat out on the couches by the water where they feed the Tarpon every day at 5. We also took a walk around the entire island and saw the hotel rooms and beautifully manicured lawn with the little beach that the guests can use. At 5 on the dot...it was feeding time for those hungry Tarpon, which seemed to beg for the food. Boy, these guys are trained as well as some dogs I know! They know where and when to come for their dinner each night. These are some good sized Tarpon too....not the largest I have seen ...but good sized. After the entertainment....it was time for dinner. Our group was sat at a long table out on the docks by where the dingys are all "parked". That was another source of entertainment during the night...watching the folks come and go in their little boats. The food was very good as were the drinks, but I have to say, the atmosphere makes that place. It is such a special place that it is one you HAVE to make it to each and every trip to VG. There really is no better place on the entire island to just come and enjoy the view and the company. After our dinner and another "walk around", the launch came back for us and took us back mainland to Gun Creek. All in all..it was an incredible evening and one we will always remember. :) A "must do" while on VG.

The food is good, but you come here for the view, conversation, sunset and to Feed the Tarpon! May sound silly, but there are about 30 3' to 5' tarpon that hang out at the bar waiting to be fed at 5 pm Island time (anywhere from 5:10 to 5:30), but the fish are happy to wait. Let's just say that tarpon are very fast in the water and it is a great show. Make sure to stay for the sunset, it is one of those places plucked out of postcards. Best way to experience North Sound is via sailboat, so you can dinghy into little shops and restaurants like Saba Rock.

We visited Saba Rock during our charter and it was probably one of the most impressive restaurants/bars we went to. The restaurant area is beautiful, plenty of dingy parking, $2.50 happy hour drinks!! We also saw the fish feeding (at 5pm) but weren't brave enough to swim with them beforehand. Free water and bag of ice if you moor here. We were here in low season so were able to grab a ball pretty late (3-4pm). There are also a few balls in disrepair and we weren't able to pick them up but hopefully they'll get them fixed before high season!
