“Wonderful family experience”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We had come to Little Dix Bay 25 years ago, but had not returned since back then little kids were not allowed. We now came with our supportive of just talking and spending time with each other and relaxing. We never left the resort. Standouts: food. Utterly superb and consistent all week, all dining options. Staff: friendliest ever encountered, very competant. Manager: outstanding man, very down to earth and helpful. We will come back each year now as our family week--assuming we can continue to afford it!

We stayed only one night on our way to Necker Island but I would gladly return. The grounds are beautiful and the staff were very helpful. It is close to restaurants in Spanish Town. We did not try any of the water sports or the spa as we were only there for 24 hours.

My first experience of the Caribbean and Little Dix Bay did not disappoint. The broad bay, unspoilt environment and spaciousness of the property meant that other guests were not intrusive and certainly the experience was not as claustrophobic as some of the hotels I also saw (Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda and Blue Waters on Antigua). Service is slightly erratic, which appears to be par for the course, but cheerful and friendly. I stayed in Room 49. Slightly dark, so if I could, I'd go for Room 50 above or for a light Ground Floor room, 75. For the price however, I'm concerned that rigorous standards have to be enforced and basic issues such as regular laundry changes and restocking of amenities, addressed. I did not however believe that I'd find anything that I preferred on Virgin Gorda.

This resort far exceeded our expectations. From the moment we were greeted at check-in by a friendly staff member (and 2 rum punches!), to our very last dinner at the Sugar Mill, we were made to feel very welcome and special. For beach lovers, this one takes the cake! It is gorgeous! Don't miss the spa, on a hill with beautiful views and a gorgeous negative-edge pool. We hated to leave, but we will be back!

Room Tip: All rooms are close to the beach. We stayed in #58, which might be the closest…….about 20 feet from...

We spent half a day in the gorgeous place. We, of course, could not afford to stay there but spend a few hours at the beach and had a drink at the pavilion.
Nobody bother us while enjoying the beach. The beach was somewhat empty.
I head that the buffet is great- we did not go to it. The Pavilion staff was very friendly and knew that we were to guests but treated us like if we were.

If you have never stayed at this property you are missing one of the best experiences ever. I have never had a more relaxing vacation. No tv in the rooms and loved it. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Food awesome and plenty of it if so desired. Have traveled the world and this definitely in the top 2 of overall experiences. If you can afford it do it.

We stayed here for a week last August for our 10th anniversary. I have taken too long to write the review and now I have forgotten names but I will give you the highlights of this wonderful place.
We stayed in the 1 bedroom suite number 46...Excellent location...very private since we did not have next door neighbors the entire time. Very functional simple set up. Some people complain about the decor at this Rosewood for the price you pay....I loved it. The decor was like being at an upscale lake cottage with a real homey feeling...Nothing fancy, nothing over the top. Very clean and functional. But in front of one of the most pristine private beaches you will ever walk on. The entire hotel grounds are like this, unassuming and comfortable and a throwback in time. If you are looking for glitz and glamor and loud night life, this is not the spot for you.
Our bedroom was large and comfy and the bathroom was great. Our daughter slept in a fold out twin bed they had brought in for the week. The bedroom had a very big walk in closet to keep all of our clothing, (which we brought way too much, even tho we did carry on)! Most people did NOT dress up even for dinner. It was VERY casual. Simple is the word here. No need to over pack! We stocked our suite with beer and water (using the intake request sheet) prior to arrival. It was nice to have plenty of beer on hand so you did not have to keep going to the restaurant bar or call in room dining to order.
We loved the outside shower off of our bathroom and never even used the inside one. This is a very chill laid back quiet resort with tons of charm and laid back attitude. As the week went on we were loving it more and more. Its the kind of place you can just sit and read all day or play in the water all day and be perfectly happy.
Check in is easy breezy. You do it on the boat coming over while you are drinking a cocktail and looking at the islands around you. Staff is lovely. Front desk staff are all great as is all the ground crew and cleaning crew. The only staff that was not up to par was the restaurant crew and the spa crew. Very slow and did not pay attention to anything. (I love slow, but this was to the point of no service). Also not even a hello from many of the wait staff in the restaurants and spa. We saw this inattentiveness daily for breakfast and dinner for 8 days. Something they need to fix. The breakfast and dinner staff rarely came around and asked if you needed a drink or water or coffee or to clear your plates or anything at all. Some nights we waited 45 minutes to get served a cocktail after we sat down and it wasn't even that crowded. We ended up doing the buffet and hardly a drink. I have to say the food was average to pretty good. Not the best tho. The seafood was NOT as good as in Mexico, Miami or New York but the best we have had at any Caribbean hotel so far. I usually do not like buffet meals but these were really pretty decent.
As most reviewers say, the Island hopping is the best. Our favorite was the all day trip to Soggy Dollar and Willy T's.There is the alcohol cruise and the non alcohol cruise, one where kids can come. We went on the adults only one, which you book thru the dive shop (not owned by hotel) it sits next to the dock across from the hotel dive shop. The one with no alcohol and kids is booked thru the hotels dive shop. If you want to have a fun no kids day, get yourself a sitter or do the kids club and take this adults only tour. It runs 1 or 2 times a week. It was one of our best days!
The other island hop we loved was the Baths.
As I mentioned earlier..the spa was not great. Treatment was HORRIBLE! Needless to say I did not go back for more. Greet staff did not even say hello for over 10 minutes and never smiled the whole time I saw them. The gal that did the treatment was lucky to have a job here, as her skill was VERY amateur at best. Not good...sorry. I was very surprised as I thought they would have good therapists at a place like this.
The front desk staff helped us set up a beautiful day renewing our vows on a cliff and got us a photographer, several surprise cakes, flowers, champagne and a whole day that was made very special for us including a private beach dinner. The attendants that helped us were all so very nice. I wish I could remember the womans name that helped us with all of this... she was always at front desk area.
The weekly cocktail/social hour with staff and guests was really fun and it was great to meet people that were staying there. There was a well known television celebrity there with their family and you could tell the staff and guests gave them them utmost privacy....it is that kind f place....very chill.
I would say one of the highlights of the trip was the Rosebuds Kids program. They have an awesome facility here so you can do things while your kids are having fun with other kids or you can do things like snorkeling, tennis, day trips where your kids are not old enough to go with you. It is very easy to go have a dinner with your spouse while your kids are having their own fun. We did do 2 nights of private sitters but it really is not necessary unless you stay out late which never seems to happen here. The Rosebud Kids program is GREAT! Check the hours as they vary nightly and daily. The woman who runs the program is wonderful!! I can't say enough about her and the sitting staff!
Taking cabs was tricky but got us around the island to see some other areas not accessible by boat. Not much in the town near by (down the road) but there was one bar that had some really fun live music at night and we found a lot of locals and hotel guests here.
We were missing the island as soon as we got on the boat to go to the airport. We were all very relaxed! I really understand how this location can grow on you.We will be back!

Room Tip: There are only 4 one bedroom suites.. All are in great locations. 46 was wonderful.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive renovation and is scheduled to re-open in late 2017. The iconic Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently closed for a comprehensive, multi-million dollar restoration, which will be the most substantial beautification project since the resort was founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller over 50 years ago. The restoration will include the complete redesign of the resort’s guestrooms and suites, its three restaurants and overall enhancements to the resort’s gardens and landscaping. New York City-based Meyer Davis Studio will lead the restoration, working alongside Miami-based architectural firm OBMI. Together these agencies will honor Laurance S. Rockefeller’s unique vision of a luxurious hideaway set amidst the pristine backdrop of Virgin Gorda. The renewal will bring about a new level of sophistication in keeping with the natural setting, whilst introducing brand new signature suites for the ultimate in relaxation and style. A rebuilt Beach Grill will offer a one-of-a-kind beach dining experience, while the iconic Pavilion and Sugar Mill buildings will remain intact but will feature extended indoor/outdoor dining areas. Guests will also enjoy an elevated arrival experience and the resort’s vibrant tropical gardens will be enhanced with new lighting, signage and improved access to Little Dix Bay beach. The renovation will also bring the addition of new restaurant concepts for The Pavilion, Beach Grill and Sugar Mill; new world-class amenities; elevated service standards and an increased focus on sustainability. Upon reopening towards the end of 2017, Rosewood Little Dix Bay will reaffirm its legacy as the Caribbean’s leading luxury resort. ... more   less
