Fischer's Cove Beach Hotel
Ranked #5 of 7 Hotels in Virgin Gorda
Reviewed 4 April 2013

I have just returned from a 17 day holiday to Virgin Gorda staying at Fischer's Cove the whole stay. Myself, husband and 5 year old boy all had a fantastic time. We stayed in a lovely rustic Garden Cottage which was 50 paces from the beach, which we loved. We used the beach some days or may be just for a couple of hours my son loved the sand and the sea which was generally ok for swimming for him. If you want calm seas Savannah Bay is amazing like a swimming pool and so clear and warm and just $10 by taxi for 2 to get to. However Spring Bay was his and our favourite bay $8 by taxi. Spanish Town the marina and supermarket is a 10 minute walk so great to get food.
Accommodation is basic but the price reflects that. The rooms are cleaned everyday, new towels etc.. the cleaners were lovely and left fresh flowers in conch shells which made it very special. We had just a fan in our room, you can get hot in the night but while it was snowing at home we felt lucky we had the heat! The kitchen area is basic with no real extras like a kettle and just 2 forks, 2 knives etc.. you need matches for cooker, dish cloth, salt pepper, washing up liquid just so you know.
Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Wayne is a star and the ladies at reception helpful. Nice to be prepared for the not so friendly other reception lady people talk about, you get use to it and don't take things personally as its just her nature. A lot of things are laid back on VG but we needed a Taxi at 4.30am the day after Carnival. The Hotel booked it for us and they rechecked the evening before with the driver. To our relief John turned up, we would have missed the 5am ferry and then our flights if he hadn't come so we were glad the important things still get done and that you can rely on the Hotel.
The noise at night from bars around did get a little noisy at times. However, for peoples information we stayed there during Easter Carnival which is BIG on Virgin Gorda locals come from other islands and just have a great time. The music is very local with the classic heavy bass they pump it out from everywhere and much louder than at any other time whilst we were there. The music basically went on for 24hours. From midnight to 8am being the worst this was on the Sunday night Monday morning.
If you want a low key, local look at life on an unspoilt beautiful island then this is the place, we loved it!

Room Tip: Pond Apple 1 double bed needs a refurb. White Cedar 1 double bed and 2 single beds is in better cond...

This is our 7th visit at Fischer's Cove Beach Hotel. Our favorite cottage was renovated with new floors, new kitchen cabinet among other nice changes. I mainly dealth with Angella at the main office who was very helpful. She followed up with us through out our stay. The quality of the food at the restaurant was great. We had the Sparkling Sunday Brunch with live music by Morris Mark. The food was delicious and the music was soothing. The fun part of our trip was the Pirate's Pig Roast on the Beach on Saturday. The band was different, it wasn't the band that played in the past, but they were great!! We had fun dancing on the sand... The staff was dressed in Pirate's outfits and waited on our table efficiently. Dawn was a fantastic host with help from Wayne the service was great! The beach was nice; some days we just hung out on the beach and sun Bathed there. However there are alot of other gorgeous beaches on the Island.
They provide beach towels and drink coolers with complimentary ice at the bar. Dawn prepared a picnic lunch for us with was delicious. All in all We had a great vacation and were sad to leave. We were able to book with Angella for next year in our favourite cottage. Simple, not too crowded and loved it!

Room Tip: Sea Island is the cottage closest to the beach. Fellow vacationers also loved the Garden View rooms...

We loved this place! Awesome location, right on the beach! This hotel is very low key, clean, friendly, accomodating.
It is a 10 minute walk into town and a 10 minute taxi to The Baths. Great restaurant, lovely beach! The staff is warm and friendly. We are so happy that we chose this hotel. Wonderful place to relax! We recommend it.

It's not Scrub Island. It's not Bitter End. If ya want them you know where to go. The rooms are older, the mattresses aren't new, the furniture isn't fancy. I like fancy as much as the next guy....But....
....if ya want to hang out with locals and be treated like family....if ya want cheap drinks and an outrageous view, if you want a beach that's practically private, sunsets that stop you in your tracks, and an outdoor deck/library/restaurant bar/rocking chairs/TV room/ and WiFi access...this might be for you.
The last room from the lobby was my favorite. But alas no AC or cable tv(just fine for me), but wifey couldn't fall asleep, and she 's mosquito bait, leaving the windows open didn't help her much...BUT.....the sound of the surf crashing on the beach rocked me right to sleep...if they installed AC in this unit they could charge twice the price...felt like we had a private beach as well with fresh flowers plucked and arranged on our outdoor table, kitchen table, and bathroom. Nice touch.
Wifey reeling from mosquito and sand flea bites, we approach the staff about a room change. Attitude or rolling eyes?? NO
They couldn't have been nicer, we went to VG peak and the Copper mine that day, when we returned they had moved all of our luggage, food, and toiletries into a new room, started the AC, and lit an anti-insect incense.

One last thing, as a Southern Cali native and Mexican food lover, the "Mexican Feast" night and nachos blew me away....taste of home and totally unexpected!!
And do by all means bond with fellow guests, met and hung out with a Kiwi and native Jamaican all night, as well as a Canadian and German couple. Awesome all around, and to borrow a phrase from the Governator... "I will be back" ;)

I agree about the grumpy desk clerk. We have been here twice, and the first time the clerk was more helpful, but our last trip just two weeks ago, the clerk wasn't so helpful. The restaurant has good food, but there are other restaurants near by with comparable food and prices. Very simple room, not as clean as I would like, but you have to remember you are not in the US so the cleanliness if different. We have stayed here twice, once in a beachfront cottage, and once in a garden view hotel room. We would stay again too I think. The only bad thing is, if you want to swim at the beach, go to a different one, sitting around is fine, but there are cleaner beaches to swim at than at Fischer's Cove.

Room Tip: Remember some rooms here have AC and some do not, so choose wisely depending on the time of year.

My daughter and I did the package deal with the meal plan. We were on a budget and figured you got what you paid for. Our room looked like it was in the middle of a renovation. Bed area was new and nice. Bathroom was sketchy. Loved the resturant and server and enjoyed the food, When we went to check out the girl did not understand that we had done the meal plan (I had only paid a deposit on my credit card). She kept charging us for exact meal charges and coming up with different figures for the balance. I finally had to add it up myself and show it to her. She went into the back room for approval and said it was Ok. Since I pd the balance in cash I asked for a reciept. She was unhappy with this and when we thanked her and turned to leave she headed for the back room and slammed the door. So just check your final bill closely.

Room Tip: Take a look at them before agreeing to spend the night

We stayed at FC for a day and half. We are writing this review from the perpective of two people who have travelled to many islands and central america and stayed in modest accommodations suchaas apartments, campgrounds, a small cottages.
The hotel:
We stayed in a motel room - not the cottage- the room looked liked it has not been painted for 50 years. One chair in the room only and it looked like it was picked up at a dump. The bed and the mattress felt like it would end up in the floor at any moment. The walls had black mold (fungus). We did not want to step in the shower - it was that bad. The louver windows were covered with plexi (plastic) sheets and the curtains could not even be pull aside to get some light in the room.
We looked at one of the four or so cottages. The small kitchen was in from of the bed in the same sleeping area.

The restaurant experience was as bad as the accommodations. We orderd conch fritters- they were burned and salty. The pumpkin soup was watery and it lacked any flavor. The white wine was vinegar- oubviouly left in a hot room for a long time.

If you are a same sex couple traveling - be prepare to explain that sharing a single bed is not a problem- to them it may be so.
Overall- for the price and the location- it is a bad deal. Check Guavaberry Spring Bay- it is worth it!!!

Room Tip: Deceiving from the pictures and reviews
