Guavaberry Spring Bay Vacation Homes
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 November 2013

We have been coming to Guavaberry Vacation Homes for many years. It is the perfect island escape. The views from the homes are spectacular. A short walk down the road allows you to experience the beach, which is never crowded. Chairs and towels are provided. Snorkeling gear is also provided. My husband would say that his favorite part of GSBVH is the commissary. It is stocked well. No need to head to the grocery store, unless you crave fresh fruit. A week here is the best vacation for those who love to be entertained by natural beauty and two cute dogs and a wonderful staff. Thank you Tina, Valerie, and Michelle for making our week so relaxing.

Room Tip: If you need AC...I would ask for a home that has AC.

We had stayed on Virgin Gorda before and liked the “Baths” so much we wanted to be closer so we elected this year to stay at the Guavaberry at Spring Bay cabins/villas. Guavaberry provides the absolute best location to Spring Bay and the Baths. The location is the main selling point. The accommodations are very simple and straightforward and we would consider returning there again. We stayed in one of the smaller one bedroom units with AC (in the bedroom) and we were on the side of the street with the bay – a short 4 minute walk to the beach. Some things we liked included; clean spacious accommodations, high ceilings with fans that made it airy, all of the windows do not have glass – they are wooden louvers with full screens so you have full natural breezes. It is very “Cabin-like.” We had a covered porch which was nice when it rained, inside the cabin was table and chair set for four, plus three large sitting chairs (no sofa), outside on the porch was another table and chair set for four, plus two large loungers, and they provide a foot rinse tub on the porch to wash off the beach sand. We had a “king” bed, but like other reviews stated they are only two twins pushed together which we found uncomfortable. They do have a very well stocked kitchen – it had everything, every kind of pot, pan, utensil – it’s a better stocked kitchen than some guests have at home. Dish towels are provided. The water was potable and tasted good – no need to buy water. They provide a cooler to take to the beach. Down at the beach there is a shed that contains loaner beach lounge chairs, floaties, noodles, etc. They provide beach towels that you can swap out for clean ones at the office. As the other reviews stated that have an over-the-top well stocked commissary that runs on the honor system – you write down what you get and pay for it later when you check out. The prices are the same or better than the local markets. Great selection of wine (some organics), cheese, snacks, frozen foods…it’s amazing what is packed into that little store. Note they do not carry perishables such as produce. Our room had two in-room safes, a small and a medium sized one. The office offers a game room where you can get books, current magazines, games, etc. Some other things to consider are that we found it a bit further from the beach than expected, especially for those guests that stay “across the street.” We noticed most of those guests drove the ½ mile and parked in their small beach parking lot. They do advertise that each cabin has an ocean view which is true, but it is a distant view. All of the units are up high on stilts so yes, you can see the water, it’s just pretty far away. And some of the giant boulders are immediately adjacent to some cabins so they can inhibit the breezes as well as they hold heat. Since the units are up high on stilts, that means high steep steps. Something to consider if you need a more accessible unit. We found the floors beautifully tiled, but with super slick tiles. We almost fell several times in the bath room with wet feet. Upon arrival we also found that the previous guest had unfortunately smoked in the bed room at some point and there was always the faint smell of old cigarette smoke – especially when you closed the louvers to turn on the AC. As with several places on Gorda, there are roosters everywhere so get used to the crowing. It could get quite noisy with all the roosters around. We found the host very nice and accommodating. They were very knowledgeable of the local area. They can arrange a rental car for you and have it added directly to your hotel bill. Very convenient. If you are allergic to pets note that the owners have several dogs that roam the property and live in the office – the office is covered in dog toys and dog beds. They are true dog lovers. We even saw the dogs running lose on the beach early mornings. There are no phones or TV’s in the rooms – but you are on vacation, you don’t need those things. The office does have a local phone to use for .75 cents a call. And at the office you can check your internet/email for $3.00 per ½ hour. Laundry service is also available, as well as snorkel equipment rentals. Overall this place is a good value. It is a bit older, is showing some wear, but is clean and comfortable. This is not a luxury hotel, but great for those who enjoy a simple casual vacation and like to have some meals in. Overall a great location. Likely the best hotel location on VG in relation to being so close to Spring Bay and the Baths. The beach here is beautiful and provides some of the best snorkeling in the world – right out your doorstep. And for being so very close to the Baths, it is quiet. Not many people at all. You have a piece of paradise to yourself and you can snorkel a few minutes and get over to the Baths – where the crowds are – then return to the quiet of Spring Bay. Also, you are about .6 tenths of a mile to the “Top of the Baths” restaurant and about one mile to the Spanish Town marina.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 40th anniversary in the USVI. We have heard a lot about The Baths from previous visits in the region. I did a search on vacation homes in the Bath area and found the reviews for Guavaberry Spring Bay very good. So we decided to take a side trip to Virgin Gorda from St. Thomas. We stayed in a 1-bedroom house called “The Guavaberry”. It met our expectations in every way. The coastal view was great, very secluded and very close to The Baths! Spring Bay is also a must. Would recommend this to anyone.

haven't been to guavaberry in 20 years but it was SIMPLY perfect the several times we booked with tina way back then, and reading these reviews brings it all back. nick and I have been all over the world, all seven continents, all the earth's major oceans and seas, and have been diving for 40 years ... tina's beach is the very best beach walk-in snorkeling we have ever experienced. just yards offshore, on the further 'rock' to the right, we were caught in a whirling, swirling school of silver sardines and moved magically with their collective mindset for several minutes. we will never forget that. at night we did a nightsnorkel with diving flashlights and saw octopi very, very close to the beach. I imagine things have taken a grander turn since we've been there - and what a shame that might be - but we adored the simplicity, the breezes, the cattle along the roadside, and ... sigh ... tina. I am so glad to hear that she and guavaberry are still thriving in the gorgeous little spring bay sun and shade. my will stipulates scattering my ashes in that area, and we hope to visit again while still alive and kicking (our fins!). blessings, tina ... yours is a unique little piece of heaven.

My husband and I stayed at Guavaberry some years ago. It was fantastic. Tina and her staff were tremendously helpful and the location is superb. Perfectly situated in paradise. We would love to be back every year. The commissary offers great eating options and there are a few good places close by also....just wonderful!

We stayed here for 3 nights in July, Tina could not have been more helpful before and during our stay. We had a few problems paying the deposit and also with the ferries - all of our queries were met with helpful and speedy responses.

We stayed in a one bedroom cottage (Banyan) and felt this was spacious for 2 people. We made good use of the kitchen with help from the on site shop - this was actually one of the best things about Guavaberry, it was stocked with a wide range of food and drink (alcoholic too!). We loved the balcony that our cottage had, there was an amazing view of the ocean and it also had 2 sun lounges and a table and chairs. The cottage was at the top of the hill so we were glad of the car rental! Again Tina organised this and for the car to be delivered to our cottage on the first morning.

Do not hesitate to book this accommodation - Virgin Gorda is a beautiful island and the cottages here are just as beautiful!
