“5th visit to BEYC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2006

If you are into sailing and/or watersports, you won't find a place like BEYC. I have been to the Sunsail Club Colonna in Antigua and although they have a lot of equipment, the resort does not measure up to BEYC. There is an extensive range of sailboats and a decent number of windsurfers and sails too. And now they provide kite surfing! There are also kayaks, small and large motor boats (extra cost), ocean rowing boats, scuba diving (extra) etc, etc. It is difficult to get bored there even when there is no wind. The accomodation is luxurious but not overly so; it's just right. The views from the top beach front villas are simply spectacular and much better than what you get from the North Sound Suites. Unless you have to have a/c, go for the beach front villas. The fans more than do the job. If you don't mind climbing stairs, get the beachfront villas with numbers 24 S (means south), 25 S, 25 N, 26 S, 26 N, 27 S. These have excellent views. The food is decent and plentiful but my only gripe is that the menu is not changed around that much, particularly for dinner. If you stay for only one week, it's fine but if your stay if for longer, then it can become repetitious. However, the food is of good quality and fresh. But, frankly, I go to BEYC to sail/windsurf/kitesurf/scuba/kayak, etc, etc. The food is of secondary importance to me. As I said, this past summer was the 5th time my wife and I have gone there in the last 10 years and we are already thinking about going back in 06.

We went last year and happened to be there during their 30 year anniversary....there was lots of celebrating and fun...fireworks, special dinners, bands, etc...it was wonderful. Everyone is treated so well, and there is special treatment for return guests too. The moko jumby (sp?) dancers were absolutely fabulous!! Mary Jo, mgr, was everywhere and so pleasant.
There are no mosquitos during this time of year, and the weather was beautiful...80s and sunny for the whole first week of March. The pool is small but so wonderful..it is a hike if you are staying in the beach rooms, but worth it. Martin the bartender is a class act. The pool view is too die for, just like the views all over the resort.

There is a VERY small sand beach, but its nice and the bottom is pretty sandy. The motor boats to borrow are TINY too, but its fun to scoot around and check out the giant yachts and sailboats docked around the club.

There werent many children around but this would make a great family vacation spot. Nighttime activities and dining choices are limited but the food is good. Take a boat across to the restaurant at Saba Rock..its terrific and fun to mingle with people on the large boats who are there for lunch.

The shop is small and VERY expensive. The sundry shop has a very limited amount of things so you might want to bring favorite snacks and such along with you beforehand.

The "pub" is interesting. The crowd is sometimes local and the workers hang around a lot. That is where the large boat crews hang out at night...more of a bar and less of a pub...not kid friendly.

The other guests were so nice and we made lots of friends. The boat trip over is nice and you can go back and forth to Tortola for sightseeing....I would skip the trip to the Baths...not very interesting and SUPER crowded. There is a great little bar and shop at the top though.

Book as many sunset cruises and snorkel tours on their boat, The Paranda, as you can...we wish we had done more since there are so many beautiful places to see in the BVI...the sunset cruise is fun...lots of alcohol and you cruise by Richard Bronsons private island to try and peek at the celebs! :)

We loved the beach rooms...you dont miss the AC and the views are fantastic. You are a little close to your neighbors...you can hear each other if your doors are open or you are on your porch....THERE ARE NO ROOM KEYS...we brought some valuables, but nothing went wrong.

We would go back, maybe taking our kids...its nice for couples but we got a little bored and missed having an expansive beach. If you want to check out the other resorts, try Little Dix, its great for dinner and day trips. We hated the restaurant at Biras Creek..stuffy and overpriced. The resort was dead at 7pm.

Bitter ENd is for sailing/boating enthusiasts and has a terrific pool/bar. Very casual dress. THe staff is aloof and young, but you will love Mary Jo and Martin at the pool.

BEYC was a great destination for our family of six (ages 14, 13, 9 and 8) for a week in March. This was our family's first trip to the Caribbean and we were specifically looking for a location that was focused on water sports, was family-friendly, and had a high level of service.

We chose the Admiral's Package for a seven-night stay and had a terrific week. Our accommodations were in the North Suites. We took both units in the Suite (1 side with a King for the adults and the other side with 2 doubles for the 4 kids). The view from the decks was spectacular, particularly at night. We were at the top of the hillside so we became regular users of the taxi service/golf cart (patience became the watchword). The rooms were very spacious and we knew the furnishings were not lush, so our expectations were met. The shower was enormous and very unique. The air conditioning worked perfectly in the kids' room; and poorly in ours, which drove my husband crazy. The management made several attempts to fix the problem during our stay. The housekeeping service was very good and always friendly. In March we encountered no mosquitos and had perfect 80 degree weather every day.

The dining experiences were consistently good although they became a bit repetitive. Once during the week we had the option to eat in a different restaurant on-site (on the way to the North Suites) but otherwise we dined in the same place all week. We did picnic lunches and went on a lot of the excursions where meals were provided. This helped break things up at mealtime. We especially enjoyed the bakery items in the morning. We chose to eat outside for our evening meals, always a buffet and often with a live band in the background. We dressed comfortably (shorts and golf shirts for the boys) for dinner - this is not a stuffy place, which the kids were grateful for. Our kids liked being able to sail, use the Whalers, play on the docks and jump off the rafts. We visited the pool only once, mainly because there were so many other great diversions. We hung at the beach a couple of days (reading, etc.) but mostly we were moving around and going snorkeling or sailing.

The kids liked the opportunity to hang out and watch movies at night, often while we enjoyed our dessert and wine nearby in the restaurant. Our favorite destinations were the trip to the Baths and the trip to Anagada.

The down side of our trip was that we were there during a very busy week, the week leading up to Easter. Not only was the BEYC at capacity, but there were also many boaters and tour groups that suddenly disembarked and it became very crowded on the waterfront. It was only like this for 2-3 of our 7 days but we decided we would try to avoid this week when we return . . . something we definitely plan to do. Also, if you like to work out in a gym, that is not possible here and there isn't really any walking or running trail either. There are hiking options I think, but it was a long week without access to a decent workout facility.

One other note . . . the staff at BEYC was very accommodating when we had a late arrival. Our flight from Puerto Rico to Tortolla got cancelled, we chartered a flight to Tortolla and arrived at BEYC via boat (very fun) around midnight. Without us asking, they had prepared a meal for the six of us in our room and had stocked our in-room refrigerators with beverages.

The BEYC defintely met our expectations for a family vacation in a beautiful location with an abundance of watersports and daily excursions to choose from. We deliberately did not choose to do everything that was offered while we were there, so that we have some new experiences awaiting us when we return.

We just returned from an 11 night trip to Bitter End. We really enjoyed the resort. There is so much to do there. They have organized trips every day, guided snorkeling trips and boats available for you to take out on your own. I found that because we hated to miss anything, we didn' t have a lot of "down time" on our vacation. However we enjoyed all of the trips we took. The snorkeling is great here!

The resort is very spread out. Plan to do a lot of walking. And in the summer heat that can be tough. We opted not to use the guest taxis and figured that the walking was good for us. Our room was a "beachfront suite" which was actually the one farthest out and up the hill. It was very private and we had no neighbors in the other half of our "cabin."

The room was beautifully maintained by our very attentive maid who frequently left us bottled water for the frig. when she did the turn down service.

The food is plentiful and good. If you are there for a long time however, the menu gets repetitive. The lobster dinner is super!

The one thing that really surprised us however was the number of young children there. The reviews and info on the place sounded like they discouraged children under eight. But be aware that during the summer at least the place is like a giant day care! There were babies, toddlers and young children everywhere.

The wait staff was generally very helpful and while sometimes things did not progress as quickly as they do here in the US, we enjoyed the leisurely "island time" meals.

The pool is a long way from the beach suites, but the times we made it there, towels were brought promptly by Martin and our drink order taken.

The weather was especially hot while we were there and yes, there are the usual tropical insects. However I didn't come home with very many bites. Since the water was warm, we had to watch out for jellyfish when snorkeling, but usually the watersports guide could find a spot where they weren't too prevalent.

We had a great time at Bitter End and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone who is looking for a very active vacation at a place with lots to do.
