My husband and I visited PI for the second time Oct 18 - 26, 2013. This time celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary and my 52nd birthday. Just like our first visit, the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful and we totally and completely relaxed our minds and bodies.
We had some odd experiences this time though. Apparently, we were booked in an ocean view room that was determined by the property engineer to be "out of commission" as there was a leak from the bathroom above us that dripped down into our bathroom. We discovered the leak after our second night. When we made the management aware of the leak, the staff promptly moved us to a habitable room. While in the new room, one of the staff and a newly arrived guest walked right in on us while we were lounging. My guess is that the system hadn't been updated notifying the staff that the room was occupied.
Prior to dinner the evening of the move to the new room, we had just ordered a brilliant bottle of wine at Drake's Lounge when the manager on duty, Jenefer - a lovely woman - stopped by to introduce herself and ask how our trip was going. We explained to her the oddities of the day. One minute later the general manager, Wilbert, was at our side asking about our stay. He couldn't have been more kind and apologetic to our experience and then comped us our expensive bottle of wine. That was a very generous thing to do!
From what we had overheard from some of the other guests, the ocean view rooms are going to be completely renovated in 2014. Quite frankly, they could use a refresher. But like most people, we are pretty much only in the room to sleep so we weren't too bothered by that.
If you go, do take advantage of the wine pairing dinner with Rimple. The food and wine selections were delicious! Rimple is an amazing person who's passion is wine and food. His other passion is sharing his passion with others. You will love this man. He's relatively new at PI but he's there for a reason which is to make the guests' food and bevie experience the best the resort can offer. He has great plans for guest dining and wine options. You go Rimple!!! Hope to see you in Chicago soon.
Another awesome experience was our 1/2 day snorkel trip with Jason and Lindsay, owners of the 51' resort sailboat Silmaril. Jason is a master seaman and Lindsay is an amazing teacher of the ocean's sea life among many other notables. Unlike typical snorkel trips in which the guides give you snorkel gear and basically kick you off the boat and you're on your own, Lindsay got into the water with us and was our personal snorkel guide. She spotted some amazing fish and coral we most definately would have overlooked. She would dive deep and bring amazing sea life to the surface for us to see up close and in some cases actually touch. I highly recommend spending 1/2 or full day with this wonderful, knowledgeable couple. You will not be disappointed
All in all, our week on Peter Island was fantastic. I know Rimple is in the process of changing up the wine selction to add some more affordable and unique wines as well as planning to add some dining options at Drake's Lounge bar i.e "small plates".
My husband and I will definately return to Peter Island although we may wait until the ocean view rooms have been renovated.
We miss you all. Until next time! Rimple, Captain, Veronica, Jean, Lema, Claudia, Wilbert and so many more who's names are escaping me at the moment.
