My husband and I traveled to Peter Island Resort for a week over Christmas 2013. The island is absolutely beautiful and impeccably kept. As others have said, the food is amazing - whether dinner at Tradewinds or a casual lunch at Deadman's Grill. What makes PI Resort so incredible are the staff - so friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure their guests are happy.

We flew into St. Thomas and took the "ferry" to PI, which in our case was a yacht. We got there super early and enjoyed some time in the marina with Ash and Lynn, the captain and first mate. What lovely people! The ride to PI took about an hour, with a stop in Tortola to go through customs. The crew did everything - we didn't have to get off the boat until arriving at PI. Upon docking, the staff takes your bags to your room, and you are welcomed with the signature cocktail - ginger lemonade, with or without rum. It was so good, I had it several more times during the trip. With rum. :)

We stayed in an Oceanview room, which is nearest to the lobby, pool and Tradewinds restaurant. The room itself was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The water pressure in the shower was great. There is a small fridge stocked with water, soda, beer; which are refilled daily (beer has a charge). We were on the second floor and the room was plenty large enough. You probably won't spend too much time there, except for a good night's sleep after sun and food! Nightly turndown service, and the room was cleaned daily (unless you put up the Do Not Disturb!)

The closest beach to the rooms was Deadman's Beach, (about a 5-7 min walk) where there were chairs, umbrellas, and watersports (all free of charge for resort guests). We tried stand-up paddleboarding and it was very fun! There were also kayaks, Hobie Cats, etc.

If you walk a bit past Deadman's, you will come to the Spa (about 10-15 min from the room). The Spa itself is beautiful and the staff is so friendly. The pleasant scent of lemongrass will stay with you! Treat yourself to some spa time, you won't be disappointed - a massage, facial, etc. There is an infinity pool and hot tub tucked away near the beach by the Spa. There were never really any people using the pool or hot tub, even though it's able to be used by resort guests as well. Yoga and fitness classes are offered at the spa, either in the Spa Garden or on the Patio, weather permitting.

Honeymoon Beach - Pretty but not very secluded because of all the boats.

White Bay Beach - make a reservation, and order a picnic lunch. There is a limit to how many people will be there. There's little cabanas with chairs that provide shade and a little privacy. We were one of two couples on the beach - but there are definitely boats (yachts, really) that may anchor and take the little boat to shore....so there may be more people there than the resort knows about. Not a big deal.

As I said earlier, the food was wonderful - however, the standout dish was the dessert I had on Christmas - a vanilla bean marshmallow on top of gelato, in a delicate sugared bowl. OMG! Best dessert I have ever had! Jean Kelly's French Toast was also amazing. We had it for 5 out of 7 breakfasts. You won't be disappointed.

The staff was definitely the best part - Collin, Donna, Charity, Rimple, the wait staff, the drivers, EVERYONE - the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Top notch service 24-7. I had a run-in with a jellyfish with an allergic reaction and had to go to the hospital on Tortola. The resort was wonderful and even sent an employee with us to make sure everything was okay. (It was - I never saw the jellyfish but it got me good!)

Some reviewers have mentioned the walking - yes, you CAN walk from place to place but you don't have to...there's shuttles and vans to take you where you want to go, ready in a few moment's notice.

There are a LOT of boaters/yachters that come to Peter Island and spend the day on the beach. Even though there is a designated portion of Deadman's Beach for visitors from boats, it doesn't seem to matter. There were also a lot of families with the boats. If you are looking for a completely child-free resort, this isn't. Since the restaurants require reservations, make sure you make yours at breakfast because the boating crowd is making them, too.

There no televisions in the room, you may want to plan ahead if you enjoy watching TV or movies - WiFi was decently strong in our room - 104 (closest to lobby). Be forewarned, if you are a Netflix subscriber from the U.S., do some googling on how to make it work out of the country.

This is a beautiful, upscale, laid-back resort where you can do or NOT do as much as you want. The kind of place that slows your blood pressure down just a bit.

Room Tip: Oceanview Rooms are in a great location and very comfortable.

First of all, let me say that there's no such thing as a perfect resort. There's always one little thing that can be improved or tweaked no matter the location. But Peter Island is about as close as you can get to perfection if you're looking for a place for total relaxation. My wife and I made our first visit to the resort about four years ago for our honeymoon and we loved it so much we decided to return this year, which we did the first week in January. And it did not disappoint! There are so many positive things I can say about Peter Island, from the attentive and friendly staff to the top-notch food to the lavish spa to the most beautiful, tropical scenery anywhere.

Both times, we stayed in an ocean-front junior suites (217 four years ago and 205 last week) which I would absolutely recommend. The view is spectacular, and you can't beat the access to the beach. There's nothing like waking up every morning to the sound and view of waves crashing on the beach 50 feet from the window next to your bed.

There are two restaurants, Deadman's Beach Grille and Tradewinds (which is more formal). Depending on event schedules each is open for different meals, and they change their menus daily. Breakfast is always in the Tradewinds, and you absolutely MUST try Jean Kelly's Coconut French Toast. It's to die for. But even if you don't like French Toast, everything is so good.

And the Spa is a must. Their services are decadent and lavish. At our last visit, we endulged in a couples deep tissue massage, and this time around, we went for the remineralizing body wrap. Prior to our wraps, we spent a little time in the hillside hot tub which has a gorgeous, secluded view of the ocean. Needless to say, we were completely relaxed and refreshed!

Finally there's the staff. Everyone is so focused on making sure your visit is exceptional. Our suite was always tended to so that when we returned from the beach, everything was clean and organized, and when we came home from a late dinner, our bed was turned down, fresh towels were delivered, and everything was picked up and put in it's place. The bartenders and wait staff were attentive, but also cognizant of the fact that the island lifestyle is laid back, so they gave us plenty of time to eat, drink and enjoy!

And I can't say too much about Jean Kelly. Jean is a 30 year fixture of Peter Island and she is the nicest, kindest person you will ever meet. When you order the coconut french toast, she makes sure to deliver it personally to your table. And when you have lunch at Deadman's grill, she'll make sure you don't leave until you've had at least one of her fresh-baked chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies. And Jean exemplifies the attitude of the staff at Peter Island. Kind, caring and genuinely committed to making sure your stay is the best it can be. Even on the last day, as we waited to board the ferry back to Tortola, the incoming staff that was coming off the ferry made sure to stop by to say goodbye, thank us for staying, wish us safe travels and let us know they look forward to our nextg visit. And this wasn't just one or two people. I'm talking about an entire ferry-load of people.

Oh yes, we'll be back! It's that good!

I loved staying here. The staff couldn't do enough for me. For example my ipad charger broke, and the manager lent me his personal charger till the end of my stay. As for details:
Food: Being stuck on an island means you have no choice as to where to eat, but this wasn't a problem as the food was good and varied, and there was a great and interesting choice of wine. I don't agree about glacial service - everyone was very helpful and friendly.
Diving: The diving in BVI is one of my favourite spots. Try and dive with Alan or Sue as they are both top notch and always do interesting dives. HELPFUL TIP: bring as much dive gear as you can, even if you just bring the regulator as renting in pricey.
Gym: It is annoyingly about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, but you get used to it. It isn't the best range of equipment - a rowing machine would be a useful addition. I have seen better gyms in resorts of this quality but it isn't bad.
Tennis: The courts are not bad and rackets are available though they are not very good.
Room: I was in a room close to the reception which was a good size. I think they are going to be refurbished imminently and that will be a good thing.
Access: Free ferry service to the island but the timetable is very unsatisfactory. There are big gaps especially in the middle of the day and I feel the timetable was to get the staff to and from the resort, rather then to be of convenience to the guests. A couple of extra ferries would be a huge improvement.
Internet is free and coverage over the island not bad, except for the beach area where you have to be near the restaurant to get a signal.
Shop: One of the best I have seen for a island resort this size. Good variety of necessities and clothing.
The 8 days I spent here went very quickly and I would be happy to go back.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are slightly larger with direct access to the beach. First floor rooms are slight...

We stayed for a week at Peter Island and all in all, had a really nice time.

The island is beautiful and if you've got the stamina, the Sunset Loop hike is well worth the effort. It provides a splendid opportunity to take in the views and vistas afforded by this quite rocky island, with amazing views across the rest of the BVI.

The staff give the hotel a really special atmosphere. They are so nice and make guests feel so well looked after. In particular, Edward Nightingale impressed us, he was a really lovely guy.

Although there is only one place to eat each meal time, the kitchen does well to vary the food on offer and the buffet dinners in particular are really excellent.

A few minor gripes. Our room wasn't ready on arrival until 4pm, an hour later than even the latest time it should have been ready. To their credit, the hotel did provide a later check out on departure to make amends, though still it wasn't the start to our experience at Peter Island we would have liked. Also, it seems like the hotel is being run to make the maximum profit. It could do with a little more investment: some of the facilities, vehicles, etc feel a bit tired. And although they provide a free regular ferry service between the island and Tortola, when it comes to leaving with your suitcases and using that same ferry they then charge you. Didn't really make sense to us and again, just left a little sour taste.

But all in all, a lovely resort, with fantastic staff that really does complement the beauty and tranquility of the BVI.

Lovely staff, couldn't be nicer
Terrific food
Beautiful location
Never crowded even during Christmas/New Years
Great for a short stay

Service is glacial: 30 minutes for everything except a coffee refill, that seemed to only average 15 minutes
Do I have to listen to staff sing pop songs on a karaoke machine?
Trash was slow to be bussed, glasses left on beach etc.
Architecture not very Caribbean in feel

Just spent a week at Peter Island and had a great time. There are pros and cons just like anywhere in the World. Pros - STAFF first and foremost makes this resort such a success. Food is fabulous, I recommend the full meal package, if you think you can go between breakfast and dinner, then do that package, but we found that we could've eaten lunch each day and for the difference in cost it would've been worth it. Rooms, we stayed in 203 which was a junior beach suite, next time we will request a downstairs room as you will have access to your own private hammock! Cons, this is NOT a resort for kids, other than some water activity there is nothing for them to do, and the food is really not geared for kids nor is their dining area. The resort switches off restaurants every night, so one night is casual dining with a more extensive lunch menu while the next night is more formal, where they ask that you not wear tee shirts, etc. it is not a resort for anyone having a mobility problem, you walk up hills to get anywhere - good for walking off all the calories! All in all a great place, very private, no tv in the room, however wireless is available. For those who do take the meal and drink plan, please tip generously. They offer a day at Whitemans Beach that you can order lunch to be delivered at a certain time, great privacy again, but resort really needs to tend to the cabanas and the furniture, very worn. Housekeepers were slow, and they tended to forget to replenish beach towels, coffee, glasses, but we were able to get replacements ourselves. The resort does not supply bath gel so if that's what you use, take your own as the least expensive at the spa was $25+ a bottle. While I didn't do any massages at the spa, I did have a mani/pedi and it was nothing special so get one before you go and save $$$. As this was our first visit here, we now know what to expect and what to being when we return in November, 2014

Room Tip: If you are staying in the Junior Beach Suite I recommend 201 if you want a bottom floor room with yo...

We sailed around the BVI in December and decided to make Peter Island our last days stop for a bit of luxury off the yacht before heading home. The marina is small and we booked in advance and upon arrival the docking guy was on hand to help us and give us a brief run down on the resort. The resort itself is beautiful and really idyllic. It's well spaced out and they have not been tempted to cram things in. We had lunch and dinner in the main restaurant and both the service and food were without fault. We also enjoyed a couple of painkillers (probably the best we had in the BVI) and some other excellent cocktails before dinner in the bar - the best cocktails we had. It's a lovely setting overlooking the beach and very peaceful with a lovely laid back Caribbean vibe. We stayed on the boat but next time, we'll book a room as we'll certainly be going back. I'd say it's good value and an excellent venue to celebrate something special too.
