“Highlight of trip!”
Reviewed 16 April 2009

After much research on the internet, we decided to book our trip to see the rays with Stingray Sailing. Not only were we able to save US$30/person off the cost of a similar tour, it was a much more intimate experience then we would have had with the cruise line. Booking by email was easy, and Michelle responded quickly to all our questions. We had no problems finding our guide, Chip, who brought us to the marina where our catamaran, captained by Bert, was waiting for us. The sail out was fantastic, beautiful and relaxing, and seeing the rays was truly the highlight of our trip (Feb 21-28). Chip and Bert demonstrated extreme professionalism and regard for our wellbeing, especially when conditions became too dangerous for us to be in the water due to the high winds and swells. Chip even spent time diving through the waves when one of our party lost a sentimental ring. Although we were in the water but a short time, I was still able to experience feeding the rays, touching them and being in the water with these magestic wild creatures. The crew was probably as disappointed as we were that our tour was cut short (Note: we were offered full refunds, but chose to give some cash anyway, as the short trip was well worth it) Chip, Bert and his wife were so hospitable (we even got fantastic lunch recommendations and were dropped off at the restaurant door) and we really enjoyed chatting with these friendly locals who truly deserve the positive reviews they've received so far.

“Stingray Sailing highlight of cruise”
Reviewed 15 April 2009

This was perfect for our family of 8 - 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 4 kids, ages 12-18. Chip picked us up at the appointed time, and our bus driver told us about Grand Cayman on the way to the sailboat. Once we arrived, we hopped aboard, and off we went to Stingray City. Chip and Bart clearly know their way around marine wildlife. They anchored a bit away from the other crowds, and immediately several large rays came to see us. We were instructed on how to pet and feed them and also how to watch out for the rays' barbs. We then had plenty of time with the stingrays - up to 4 feet across - and Chip held several of them out of the water for those of us who were a bit more timid to see and pet them. After a long time with the rays, we boarded the boat, weighed anchor, and went about 1000 yards or so over to the reef for some snorkeling. The water was rough, which made it a bit unpleasant, but Bart was an excellent leader and tour guide, and helped some of us who weren't strong swimmers. He took us to a rock where his friend "Psycho," a wild green moray eel, was lurking. Bart brought the eel out of his hiding hole, fed him, and we were able to get a very good look at a 4-foot long rare animal without ever being in any danger. It was great! After snorkeling, we were treated to some fresh fruit, water, and other beverages on the smooth sail home. Chip wasn't done showing us stuff, though. He put on a mask, tied a rope to his waist, and dived into the water while the boat was sailing. He soon came up and pulled himself back to the rear, a huge starfish in hand. Chip fished a few more creatures off the bottom to show us before putting them back in the water. We were even greeted back at the dock by several iguanas. All in all, this was a fantastic outing, particularly for the low price. I would very, very strongly recommend it. Stay away from the cruise-sponsored cattle barges headed to Stingray City and go sailing!

“My favorite place.....Stingraysailing.com”
Reviewed 13 April 2009

My husband and I just returned from a 7 night Cruise. Our first port of call was Grand Cayman. The Cayman Islands were amazing; however, it takes more than just visiting and shopping. You should definitely sign up for the sting rail sailing!!!! We had a group of 10 people that booked an excursion from Stingraysailing.com. Chip and Bert as well as Stuart were so helpful. They take you out to the sand bar to swim with the sting rays. They allow you to take your time and they only allow a certain amount of people per tour. It is a more intimate setting.
Once you are done swimming with the sting rays, you head to the reef for some snorkling. That water is so pristine and the marine life is phenomenal. This was perhaps the best excursion we did on the entire trip! And the price per person is reasonable and is SO worth it. I promise you will not be disappointed!

“Stingray Sailing - Must Do in Caymans!”
Reviewed 13 April 2009

We just got back from a cruise that took us into Grand Cayman for a day. I booked with Stingray Sailing because of the promise of fewer people on the boat. Chip was GREAT! From the time I booked he had great communication and was very easy going. We were able to pay once we got there and you could tell it was a very laid back but professional operation. We met right where the cruise docked so it was very easy for us to find. We took a short bus ride to the boat which is a lovely catamaran. There was plenty of room on board for us to lay down and enjoy the short ride to the stingrays. Obviously plenty of operations go to Stingray City and once I saw them all I was so glad to be with Chip and Stingray Sailing. First, there were only 25 people on our boat and well more than that on the others. Secondly, the other operations made the people all wear bright yellow flotation jackets. Now the water is only 3 feet deep so I was VERY glad that I was able to move around without a life jacket on. Chip was educational and capable, playing with the stingrays and making sure all of us that wanted to got a chance to feed and pet them. He taught us the best way to feed them and made us feel comfortable the entire time. After we had finished feeding them, we all got back on the boat and went to a snorkeling spot over a reef. Then Chip fed us some of the best fruit I have had and we enjoyed a trip back to the mainland. On our way back, Chip dove off the boat and found a starfish and some other creatures. He brought them back on board and let us touch them before safely returning them to the ocean. It was educational and unique. I am a diver and in all the times that I have been out with operators, have never seen anyone do what he did. It was amazing and fun! I would highly recommend Chip and Stingray Sailing as an alternative to the over booked cruise options. I went with my parents who are in their 60s and it was fun for all of us. We got back to the cruise ship port exactly when he promised. I would use Stingray Sailing again and again!

“Stingray Sailing On the Far Tortuga”
Reviewed 27 March 2009

Stingray Sailing made our day trip to Grand Cayman. Chip was waiting an hour early for us at the dock. Short van ride later we were at the marina climbing onto a nice catamaran. We had ten people total with plenty of room to spread out. All the other boats were elbow to elbow -- if you want a personalized experience stingray sailing is for you. Bert sailed us to the sting ray sandbar where we swam with the beautiful animals and fed them squid. It was a once in a lifetime experience. After we motored to a reef where Bert coaxed a huge eel out of his cave. The snorkeling was cool and very relaxing with Bert showing us around the reef for an hour or so. We got back on the boat and relaxed in the sun with a cold drink for our ride back to the marina. Chip and Bert offered us fresh fruit, water and beer or soft drink for purchase. Chip recommended a local spot for lunch and dropped us off on the way back to the boat. Avoid the cattle boats and have a great time aboard the Far Tortuga!
