We booked an excursion departing from the dolphin park.
The trip to Stingray City was great. We enjoyed touching the stingrays in the wild (even if it didn't feel we were much in the wild, since we were surrounded by a lot of people).
Once back at the dolphin place, the bus driver asked us if we wanted to take a few minutes to go upstairs and see a photo exhibit (by National Geographic). It was very cool, I would definitely recommend both activities!

A must see and do. We used Soto's Tours, a small boat and independently owned. The cruise ship boats are way too big and too many people.
You end up approx. five miles off the coast on a white sandbar. The depth varies but is usually 3-4 feet where they stop. Immediately, the stingrays will sense you have food and will do a "swim by" to see. Don't be intimidated easily. Despite stories of people getting attacked or killed (Steve Irwin) by rays, they are very gentle creatures and sense that you are friendly and have food.
I've dived many times with rays and never had a problem.
Try to get a picture up close or have the guide pick one up out of the water and prop it up behind you!!! Enjoy!

You may be tempted to avoid seeing the sting rays because it may sound too cheesy or commercial but if you do, you will regret it. I had my doubts but I admit that it was one of the most activities of my entire Caribbean holiday. We were on a Caribbean Princess cruise so this was one of the shore excursions that was offered. Once ashore, a short shuttle bus ride outside of Georgetown to a residential area with a canal. We boarded a nice boat, not too small, that held at least 50+ people and had fins, snorkel and mask. The crew was great! It took about 30-45 min to arrive to Stingray City which is a sand bar surrounded by turquoise water at the entrance to North Sound. There were a half dozen other tour boats so we had to wait a few minutes for a parking place. The water was warmer than the bathtub and we spent at least an hour swimming and walking with the numerous stingrays, petting and holding them. Then we went to a nearby reef (5 min away) for about 1 hour of snorkeling. Both stops well worth it and a great half-day excursion. All in all, almost 4 hours.

CAUTION! You will undoubtedly get your picture taken holding a stingray. While this is great, the photographer on our boat (Bone-Dry Photo) charged a whopping $20 to email us one 10 megapixel resolution photo. I thought this was very expensive especially since a hard copy is not provided! You can do the same with your mobile phone in a waterproof case. And the photo was not even straight! So be a wise consumer and enjoy your holiday!

This trip was amazing! First of all, compliments to the staff of Red Sail tours for being friendly, and knowledgeable about all aspects plus adding a bit of humor to the tour. The stingrays are amazing, gentle creatures that will take your breath away. The facilities on the catamaran were convenient and the bar was pretty well stocked. This trip is a must for any visitors to Grand Cayman. Well worth the $80USD.

Stingray City was the highlight of our tour in Grand Cayman. Although Turtle Farm, hell and other places were interesting, but stingray city was really awesome, We were boarded on a boat that carried 20 people, took us 30 minutes to get to where the stingrays were. There were around 15-20 stingrays swimming around the area.. from baby stingrays to big stingrays. They were really friendly and slimy, they usually go near you and likes to brush their body against yours. It was really great to experience swimming with them. Just remember to stay away from their tails and try not to hit or step on them, their skin is very sensitive. This is worth a visit guys!!
