“Sunset House Dive Vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

We had a wonderful trip to Sunset House. This was our second time with them. We had an ocean view room which was absolutely wonderful. The dive staff was awesome, especially Aaron, Simon and Roger. Safety was a primary concern without being paranoid. Shore diving off the resort was relaxing and easy. Food was excellent at the restaurant and at My Bar. We especially enjoyed visiting with Murphy and Merlin, the resident canines!

Jamie is 15 and we have travelled the world. Sunset is a jewel. Simon expertly trained Jamie in his PADI open water diving . Thankyou Simon

Everything is within 100 yards, pool, dive shop, outdoor sunset bar and restaurant, breakfast restaurant, boat dock or just dive from the dock. View the aerial shot posted by the hotel to see how it all hangs together.
We met people who had dived for 20 years and continually came back here( interspersed with other places) and agreed that its a great operation. We did not meet a single dive crew member who didn't represent the brands values of safety and genuine helpfulness and friendliness. Shout out to Roger for overseeing the boat trips. We loved the unique towel topography and how Charlotte from Denmark seemed to know everyones name all the time.

Cathy Church's Is a great camera shop and underwater camera rental shop and its right there on the property. We got some good shots The camera staff were top notch.

The ocean view room 420 clean, no damage no faults but great view amazing view and airconditioning kept it cool which is what you need when its 85 at breakfast. . It's not the ritz Carlton or the Marriott but we checked them out on our last day Very few rooms had oceanviews like this.

Breakfast in the restaurant was a traditional served breakfast from a menu. everyone diving arrives at 0700 when it opens yet they calmly take your order and serve you promptly and everyone is always done by 730

The beach bar has amazing sunsets. We never eat in the same place twice, well we ended up here for 5 lunches ( you need to do that for ease of pm diving) and 4 dinners. I read report that the staff were slow or unfriendly. Absolutely the contrary. We had many different wait staff and I'd say they were all superb and friendly. There are multiple menus one is Indian food. That was a real treat.

The last day we rented a car from Hertz and toured all the way up 7 mile beach and stopped at each independent dive location which people had mentioned...just to see. Their staff we friendly but for location and ambiance Sunset seemed better.

Keith and Karin outstanding quarterbacks for the Sunset team around, efficient, friendly but business as well. The above and beyond introductions to film makers was appreciated. If I were a business owner I would be very happy they were running my business.

As a Marriott platinum I am always looking at Marriott so on our last day we included a visit. The hotel is a resort so there is no concierge lounge but the location right on 7 mile beach is very cool. Ocean view rooms are a real premium and most are side or coutryard. diving is operated by Redline(?) but there is no afternoon shore diving available.

We love the Marriott chain but it doesn't beat Sunset in Cayman for a true diving experience.

So Jamie's sister Ellen wants to dive now and September is the low season post labor day and pre college. We'll be back. Lets pray for no hurricanes and some new jokes for Roger.

We just finished our 3rd. visit to Sunset House on Grand Cayman. We had an ocean view room that was excellent . Our hotel package included 4 days of boat diving and great breakfasts. The lunches and dinners at My Bar were excellent as was the service. The dive masters were friendly and always there to help. The shore dives were great. Only had poor visibility on one shore dive.
We would have liked to have rented bicycles but walking into Georgetown every afternoon was out of the question. We dove the Kittywake 2 years in a row so passed on it this last time.

Just spent a week at Sunset House for our first dive trip to Grand Cayman...definitely won't be the last! Everyone at SH was very helpful and friendly - the front desk staff, the dive shop crew, the bartenders, the waiters, grounds crew and housekeeping. We were really happy with the food at the restaurant which included excellent Indian fare. The rooms are designed for divers - tile floors, minimal closet space but maximum room for gear. The furniture is also pretty basic but that's fine because we spent most of our time in the room sleeping or getting ready for a dive. The bathroom is modern with a nice large shower (no tub so it's easy to rinse yourself and your gear post dive). We had a second floor ocean view just a few yards from the water. Night diving was really convenient with plenty of tanks available all the time. We had our own secure storage locker which we kept our bc's, suits and fins in. The dive crew knew every inch of the reef so we were taken to dozens of different sites for walls, overheads, wrecks... you name it.

Room Tip: Rooms in the 400's are toward the ocean and away from the pool so they're pretty quiet.

I arrived on June 29th and was warmly greeted by Keith, the manager and the resort dog, Murphy. What a wonderful dog...makes the trip worth it, just to meet him.
I received a second floor room, luggage moved there while I was visiting the Cathy Church Photo Shop and setting up classes with Cathy.
The room was very nice, even had wifi access in the room.
Unfortunately the weather was not good and rain occurred. The steps from the second floor down were very slick and I fell on Wednesday morning. My camera setup was not harmed, but I was banged up pretty good. Once back from the hospital, Keith moved me to a beautiful first floor ocean view room with a fantastic bathroom.
Needless to say, fall put the quits on shore diving and further classes with Cathy and her people. However, I was still able to boat dive, and did.
Diving in Grand Cayman is wonderful, lovely reefs and on this trip, the silversides were in Devil's Grotto, Eden Rock and the Cheeseburger (North and South) sites. Wonderful! I have some nice pictures from these sites, as well as others I visited.

I will return to Sunset House, loved the diving and the dive staff, lived Keith, his wife and all the hotel staff. Most of all, adored meeting Murphy, such a sweet dog.

Room Tip: Choose if possible one of the ground floor rooms, preferably the ocean view rooms...they are favulou...

Just got back from a long awaited dive week. What a fantastic place Sunset House was. The staff there made the week top notch. Troy and Julian greeted us every morning with smiles at breakfast. Then were waiting to serve us more great food at lunch and dinner after squeezing in as much diving as we could. Karin and Keith made us feel at home and were always on the property making sure all the little details of the grounds and amenities were to everyone's satisfaction. I personally think they went beyond expectations to make sure they did all they could to make the vacation memorable. They talked to all the guests like we've been long-time friends. It was very pleasant to feel so welcomed. They even tried to do all they could for members of our group that were under the weather. Cathy Church's photos are amazing and the staff there were more than happy to discuss photo pointers. I think my husbands photos captured our trip perfectly! The diving was wonderful even though the stormy conditions made the water a little cloudy. I had the best experience in the swim thrus with the silversides and tarpon...an experience I will never forget. The dive crew was very helpful and joked with us each trip. Sting Ray City was a great experience too and glad we did it. Loved penetrating the Kittiwake too. Very nice wreck. My husband and i celebrated our 100th dive each on our first boat dive and it's a memory we will cherish. The only complaint I have is that our trip went by too fast. Keith--thank you for taking care of our group of 17 New Yorkers. Give Murphy a hug for me (and Merlin). We'll be back!

Room Tip: Loved being in an ocean view room close to shore diving.

Stayed at Sunset House during a very quick dive trip sans kids. Great operation and helpful staff. Great unlimited shore diving for guests. The mermaid statue sunk off shore is a must see. Our dive and room package included airport transfers so we didn't need a car for such a short trip. Close enough to walk to town.
