“High quality; small beach”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Pro: good hotel, clean, on par with regular American Marriott. Mini-fridges in room to keep food in. The room was of average American hotel size, so there is room to move around. Coffee-maker in room and the water is drinkable from the tap. The beach service is great - both with setting up chairs and umbrellas as well as the bar service for drinks/food. The water in front of the hotel is calm enough to play in and swim in, and once you get out a little bit, there's a small amount of reef - so you can actually snorkel right in front of the hotel. Really nice beach towels!

Con: the beach is narrow/shallow. You are sandwiched in with the chairs and there isn't a ton of room for playing in the sand. We didn't have issues with it but it's dramatic. And I can't stress this enough: Cayman is expensive. Their dollar is 25% more costly than ours, plus they add a 15% service charge to just about everything, and Cayman prices are very similar to American prices. So even though the hotel cost is reasonable, you are going to spend money on food. Nothing is free - even a cup of coffee in the lobby is going to cost $4. Having said that, stores to buy food are within walking distance of the hotel. So if you get a package where breakfast is included and you buy food for lunch, you could cut down your costs.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are just fine.

My family has been coming to this resort for years, and each time we have a blast! The resort itself is just as we remember it, great location on seven mile close to bars and restaurants, nice beach, and a great pool.

The decor is getting a going over next year with a big renovation, so I'm excited to see the results of that in 2013. As always, this property shines with the quality of its staff. I have travelled to dozens and dozens of Marriott properties over the years, and the staff of this place is on par with the Ritz [without the air of stuffiness sometimes seen at the Ritz].

Outstanding people include Ingrid, Alex, and the rest of the front desk/front office staff; Laurent, Lisa, Craig, Estelle, Ryan, and Dannis always made sure we had a delicious beverage in front of us [and usually some laughs to go with it]; Karla was a wonderful face to see first thing in the morning at breakfast and was an outstanding server; Omar with the belldesk [awesome local] gave us ideas of places we hadn't been before...even the security team was as nice as could be--Larry, Babu, and James were always friendly, funny, and helpful. Aggrey and the beach crew were always checking up to see how everyone was doing throughout the day

If you are traveling to Grand Cayman, this is the property to be at in my opinion--the location is great, plenty to do on and off property with Red Sail being there, the staff really make your experience special, and we are always excited to see the old faces we know and the new ones that continue to keep the bar high from a service and friendliness standard.

Thanks again for another awesome year!! See you in late 2012!

Room Tip: Sun is up all day on the right side of the hotel, shadier rooms on the left

I think I was expecting a little more from this resort. Seemed like it could be any other Marriott in any other place. Of course the big wow factor is outside - the beautiful Caribbean Ocean!! We spent most all of our time at the beach - LOTS of chairs/umbrellas and service was good. IT IS REALLY REALLY pricey here- I normally don't complain too much about pricing in the Caribbean but this was a bit excessive - 6Cayman Dollars for a average size cup of coffee (think starbucks grande size) for a regular brewed coffee...

We ate at Coconut Joe's across the Street - lots on the menu but I kept going back to enjoy the Fish Tacos!

Weather was perfect, water was perfect...Hotel was OK - nothing to complain about just nothing that spectacular

Nice staff at the Blue Parrott - family friendly restaurant. One tiny peanut shaped pool, even smaller beach, stench of sewage permeates property in the evenings, missing items from room. Exorbitant prices ! Families should rent condos.

We stayed at the Marriott for seven days Dec. 27-Jan. 3. Our rooms were very clean and spacious. The beach was smaller this year because of a storm, but still very pretty. The pool bar is a great place for lunch and they serve you at your beach chairs too. The bartenders and staff at the pool bar are by far the best staff members at the Marriott!! The entire staff is friendly and helpful.
The only negative we have about this hotel is the New Years Eve party. We do not go to it because it is so crowded. It is nice that this year they offered just a drinking wrist band, but all the acohol is bottom shelf!! We did not like the fact that people who were NOT staying at the hotel were able to go wherever they pleased inside the hotel. No one was even checking room keys at the elevators. That needs to change!
Overall we had a wonderful time at the Marriott! Great hotel on Grand Cayman!!

Walking along seven mile beach, this is the most horrible hotel with very narrow beach. If you like lying down on beach and enjoy the ocean, do not stay here.
The property itself may be qualify as 3 star - that's it. Room, decor, cleaness are all bad. The first floor of the hotel smells like stinky fish for some reason.
Before I arrived, I have sent an email to require a higher floor since we are travelling with a little kid. I got an email from Marriott back to state that will be taken care of. Yet, we got a room above the bar, which is very noise. Even we are staying for 6 nights, they could not find a better room. Horrible service.
I would highly recommend not staying at this property and it is just horrible. Watching the TV news this morning about Marriott locked lots of their guests out on New Year's day due to key issues, I would say that Marriott in general is just in trouble. With service this bad to their customers, what do they expect in the future?

Room Tip: Stay away from this property.
