We had not previously stayed on Grand Cayman because the prices were always much higher than on other islands in the Caribbean and they do not specialize in "all-inclusives". But this year we found a good deal at the Sunshine Suites and were very pleased with our vacation there. Breakfast was included in our hotel price and was good. It included 4 types of cold cereal, pancakes, yogurt, scrambled eggs, various types of muffins, toast, some type of fruit each day, juice and coffee. Not a huge buffet, but definitely enough. You could eat breakfast inside the Sunshine Grill or out at the tables next to the swimming pool. You had to cross a rather busy street to get to 7-mile beach, but it was not a huge problem. The Ritz Carlton and Westin are across the street, so the Sunshine Suites is definitely in a "safe", nice neighborhood. We walked in the dark every night. We walked toward town & ate at Deckers and the Lone Star. We walked the other direction, to a plaza/mall type place, where a Cost-U-Less store is located. It it similar to Sam's Club or Costco....a giant warehouse-type store that sold just about everything. Our suite was actually a small apartment. It had a living room with a couch, chairs, large flat-screen TV & eating area. It had a galley kitchen, with stove, microwave, full size fridge, dishes, eating utensils, pans, etc., a bathroom with hair dryer and both shower & tub, and a bedroom with a king bed & another flat-screen TV. The place was very clean & housekeeping did a good job supplying us with what we needed. Since we had the full-size fridge, we purchased meat, bread & cheese, etc. at Cost-U-Less for lunches on the beach. We took the bus downtown, as it's quite a hike, but on a cool day, I'm sure we could have walked there, as we walk all the time. The bus ride to most places only costs $2.50. Some are $5, but it is much less than a taxi & the busses are actually 15-passenger vans. The vans were clean & I'd recommend taking them anywhere on the island. The vans stop right in front of the Sunshine Suites driveway. We went to the turtle farm and were glad we did. Instead of paying for a turtle farm "tour", we just hopped the bus & bought tickets at the farm. Seven mile beach is beautiful. Turquoise water & white, white sand as far as you can see. Sunshine Suites provides beach chairs for those staying there. There is not much shade at the beach directly across from the Sunshine Suites driveway, but if you walk just a little way down & walk to the beach area through the parking lot (next to the Governor's house) there are some trees there to provide you with shade. There are not cheap hamburger grill or snack places for lunch on the beach. That is why we bought food at Cost-U-Less and made sandwiches, etc. for lunch. Food at both Deckers and Lone Star was good. We had dinner at both. Deckers was more expensive. Lone Star was cheaper, more of a sports bar, and we watched the Super Bowl there. We walked to Camana Bay from the hotel. It's not very far. We went to the top of the tower there. The mosaics on the walls of the Camana Bay tower and the view from the top are absolutely breathtaking. There are lots of stores there - very upscale. In Georgetown, we had some snacks overlooking the water at the Paradise Restaurant. We just had a smoothie & a milkshake, so I can't comment on the food there. But sitting right by the water there & watching & hearing the waves crash against the restaurant while we sipped our drinks was awesome. We visited the historical museum of the Cayman Islands in downtown Georgetown. Small, but interesting history lesson. There are lots of souvenir shops in town, as cruise ships stop there. There are a few little restaurants & and yogurt shop in the plaza directly in front of the Sunshine Suites, but we didn't eat at any of them. The final night of our vacation was our wedding anniversary, and we made reservations at the Sunshine Grill. The meal was wonderful. Some type of fish medallions. Delicious. The people at the hotel desk were nice and very helpful. You get your beach towels there. There was free internet in our room for our I Pad. The U. S. dollar is not worth very much compared to the Cayman dollar, so be prepared for sticker shock. Things weren't outrageously priced, but definitely more expensive than on other islands, especially when the prices were converted to American dollars. I don't want to scare anyone about costs, just be prepared, that if something is marked $25.00 in Cayman dollars, it's more than that on your credit card. If you are there a week, that can add up. The airport was nice and very efficient. The taxi from the airport is $25. I don't think you can take the busses (vans) from the airport. If you are thinking of renting a car instead of taking the vans, remember that they drive on the other side of the road and there are "roundabouts" on the roads there. We had no complaints whatsoever about Sunshine Suites. The only thing I would stress would be that if you are not in great physical shape, and have trouble walking or carrying things, remember that the beach chairs have to be carried from the hotel main desk, across the street & to the beach. That was not a problem for us at all, but may be for some elderly people. Don't expect to just walk out the door of your hotel room & be right on the beach, like you are at some Caribbean resorts. It would have been nice if there was some type of music around the pool in the evening for dancing, but we realized that the price of the Sunshine Suites is just a fraction of the cost of the hotels across the street & in the area so you can't expect everything. So we were fine with the location and the amenities for the price we paid. It was excellent. Definitely a good deal, price-wise. We would definitely recommend the hotel and definitely stay there again in the future.
