“Fantastic week”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

My wife and I booked this hotel not really knowing what to expect. The room was bright and in excellent condition. The staff on our floor we very pleasant and did an excellent job keeping our room and bathroom spotlessly clean. The people at the front desk were always polite and more than willing to help in any way that they could. They gave us great directions for our daily trips and also for making and canceling reservations. We met the manager, Thomas Mason on his day off and was very impressed with his willingness to chat about our stay. This showed me about his concern for the people staying at his hotel.
My wife and I found a couple conch shells and was not sure how to clean them so that we could bring them home. A young man named Redenel (hope I spelled it right) who works at the hotel went out of his way to clean them for us. Then there was the sweet lady (I apologize for not remembering her name) who worked in the breakfast area. I had asked her where we could go to get some fresh plantain. She gave us the name of a local spot and then......when we came in for breakfast the next morning she brought a covered plate to my table. Uncovering it I found something special that she had cooked up the night before. It was excellent.
Last but not least...C.J. the young man at the beach. He set up chairs, moved umbrellas as the sun moved during the day, took pictures for people and was very friendly and pleasant.
Thank you to everyone.
We will be back again next year.
George

We struggled a bit with a 3 or a 4 for this review. I would call them a solid 3.5, as we had some challenges arise, but they also addressed them.

We stayed at this Comfort Inn for six nights around the US Thanksgiving holiday. Based on the reviews and the cost we felt that this was a good option that balanced being on Seven Mile Beach, near the beach, and near our dive shop. We would consider staying here again if the price was right, but would probably choose a condo instead if the price were about the same. Given what seems to be an ongoing issue with a lack hot water in some rooms, failing air conditioners, and the potential for deep, thick seaweed on the beach when there is a storm, it makes us ponder other options. That being said, the General Manager who resides on site really cares about the hotel and guests and did everything possible to take care of us.

On our first attempt to shower, our room had no hot water. When we called the front desk they told us just let it run....we already had for fifteen minutes.....and the sink had hot water so that was not logical advice. Several people came up to try and fix it to no avail. That prompted me to look closer at the reviews and I found out that this appears to be an issue that arises at this hotel. After the manager came up and agreed that the hot water was not working he gave us a selection of other rooms to transfer to. We ended up selecting a two bedroom unit that made for a nice stay, but....on the first night in that unit, one of the two air conditioners stopped working. The first person to come up said that it was because the unit was low on Freon, but the person the next morning determined that the blower motor was rusted out. By the time we got back from our dive boat, they were finishing the repair. We talked with another traveler at the bar who was also moved because of the lack of hot water and talked with another couple who had their air conditioner go out. I understand the AC issues happen, and hope that they have that fixed soon by replacing all of them. The hot water issue though....that would give me pause at choosing this location. The maintenance staff at this location is phenomenal at addressing issues that arise, though I wish they could be more proactive....my guess is that the owners do not provide them with the funds to do so.

Check in was efficient and friendly and we were upgraded to a nice sized one bedroom unit. (that was moved up to a two bedroom after the issues above.) Of note for new travelers to Grand Cayman, the hotel adds an assessment (as do other hotels in Cayman it from what I was told) for gratuities. Not realizing that, we left gratuity each day for housekeeping but in retrospect would not do that in the future. The service was acceptable but not stellar and did not warrant a tip beyond the amount added on the bill. That being said, the total with taxes and tips matched the quote from the hotel booking site.

The hotel is nicely located on Seven Mile Beach, is easy to find, and has plenty of free parking. They claim free internet, but in reality it is a penny per day. Not that I care about six cents, just found it funny that they put it on there, makes them seem cheap, they should be able to reprogram their system. The daily safe charge however I find ridiculous....I understand the key deposit and a fee if I loose the key, but the actual daily charge is unacceptable.

As described on their websie, they have a small beach area that you can get to through a small walkway between two other buildings. There tends to be a shortage of chairs at this location, but we knew that coming in, and the hotel does not claim anything more. Another caveat is that while this can be a nice beach, it is also prone to tons of seaweed washing up during storms due to its location on the cove. During the time we were there, three days were full of seaweed a foot deep. They worked hard to clean it up, but it took a front end loader on the beach a couple of days to get it cleaned up. We ended up going to other beaches a couple of times. Not a relaxing two days at the beach with rotting seaweed and front end loader working around you. I understand its nature, but also something that should be pointed out. That being said, the much more expensive hotels on each side were also affected. (Though the Marriott cleaned it up MUCH faster.)

They have a very nice pool for a limited service hotel. The restaurant Stingers serves food and bar drinks near the pool. With the exception of one person all of the staff at Stingers was friendly and engaging. The food was pretty tasty, drinks were nice, and the prices were reasonable. They hotel has a small but acceptable gym.

The beds were very comfortable, but the pillows were absolutely horrendous and only 2 of 12 in our room were even tolerable, time to replace them! The curtains in the room were not sufficient to block out light as they were too short. Rooms were however very quiet. Both rooms we were in had nearly full kitchens. I am not sure what the standard hotel room has.

They did a nice job of ensuring that people that were not registered guests were not permitted in the breakfast area. The complimentary breakfast is nothing fancy, but is sufficient to get you going for the day, though it does get a bit repetitive after a day or so. I would not really make the decision for the hotel on the breakfast, probably worth less than $10 CI. For example one day the meat was burned sliced hot dogs....okay whatever. That being said, most of the other hotels don’t offer any breakfast, so it was nice to have before heading to the dive boats. We would be just as happy getting some supplies from the grocery.

As long as the price is less than the competition this would be an option, but like I said, we would probably choose a condo if it could be had for a price within $50 of the Comfort Inn.

Dear Pcsanity - thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel we appreciate this. I remember you folks, thats a while back you were with us. Glad that we took care of you. I would challenge you to take 410CI to the grocery store and see what you can actually buy, dont think it would be close to the value and selection we offer on our full breakfast buffet. A condo also would probably charge about $200-300+ extra per night based on our rates with no breakfast and possibly a charge for wifi which we also offer for no charge. The NorthWesters can bring soemseaweed to the beach, maybe a once or twice a year, the Marriot do clean up faster as they have around 300 employees versus our 30. Gald to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Please contact me directly should you wish to return to our island and I will take care of you booking and ensure that you have better luck with your room. comfort@candw.ky

This was our second time back to the Comfort Suites and our third time back to the Caymans. We stayed for 8 amazing days. The staff here is so friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable during your stay. The room was always clean and beds were comfortable. I am a snacker, so it was nice to have the small frig and microwave for popcorn and things. The location is so convienent to everything, otherwise hop on the bus right outside for just 2.50. The morning breakfast is delicious and keeps you full until lunch time or later. The beach was always clean and beautiful. There was always someone to help with your beach chirs or umbrellas. I would not stay anywhere else but here! Lorie

This completely adequate property would benefit from better management and maintenance. It offers good value amid its more expensive neighbors. The location is good; sound proofing between rooms is great; the bed was firm and comfortable; the small kitchenette with plates, glasses, and silverware makes it easy to keep cold drinks and re-heat restaurant left-overs; the standard economy hotel complimentary breakfast (including eggs, meat, and Belgian waffles) is convenient and filling though without great variety; wi-fi access is strong and almost complimentary ($0.01/day); and there is ample free parking.

The staff are friendly enough, but seem overworked and without the resources and guidance they need to do their jobs well. Guests want to feel like guests rather than a source of income, but with one significant exception (described below), there’s a real lack of “welcome,” “thank you,” and “I hope you enjoyed your stay.” Instead, front desk staff personnel multitask between many guest needs, phone calls, and other hotel staff needing attention. In many ways, guests feel like an afterthought rather than a forethought. A good example of this was a housekeeper bringing a cart of linens upstairs who realized while standing in front of the main elevators that she forgot something and so left the cart in the middle of the busy lobby and walked off to get the forgotten item, leaving guests to get move around her cart.

General maintenance has the same weary feel. Our shower floor was worn and cracked. The conveniently-placed laundry line in the shower was black (and moldy?) in places, and the towel rings were in disrepair. The desk chair was constantly in the way as it would not go down low enough to fit under the desk. The hotel information and services binder/directory is almost useless. Most of the tabbed sections of the binder were empty. It would have been useful to have a listing of the television channels, for example. Instead, it was mostly full of ads, including one for an adventure tour provider, with directions to consult the front desk for arrangements, but when we did that, they seemed only vaguely aware of what we were referring to.

Room 506 is small but adequate, with a double bed tucked in an alcove. Another is available in a sofa-bed, but the room would be very, very cramped with more than two people. There are two convenient closet areas, each with a luggage rack, shelf, and hangers, and one has an iron and ironing board. The bathroom is cozy with no real space to hang wet towels. The room’s single window looks out to a hotel wall. Because the hotel is set back from the beach behind another property, there are no rooms with ocean views.

A highlight of our stay here was a very friendly front desk person who helped make arrangements for the Atlantis Submarine tour and a trip to Sting Ray City with Captain Marvin’s Boat Tours. While it is difficult to determine standard costs for particular trips, the “concierge rate” she arranged seemed to match going rates. She called to make reservations for us and collected a deposit for one. The timing between the two ended up being very tight, and we would have appreciated better guidance on that. One tour took longer than expected, and we could have driven our rental car to the second rather than rushing back to the hotel for a shuttle bus that then picked up other passengers and delivered us to the main store front we could have driven to ourselves. Even so, the advice on the boat company was especially helpful, since there are so many choices, and Captain Marvin’s turned out to be perfect.

Comfort Suites is not a beach front hotel, but the few sandy steps to reach the magnificent Seven Mile Beach may be one of the most significant reasons for the great price. The poolside restaurant/bar, Stinger's, offers extra convenience to those who choose to relax out of the sunshine for a while. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, which makes this an even greater bargain. LOCATION IS FABULOUS, with dozens of great restaurants within a very short drive or even walking distance. The most important reason for our frequent return to this HIDDEN GEM is the personal, positive and responsive staff, including at the front desk, in the breakfast kitchen, all cleaning staff and the maintenance crew. These people represent the charm of GRAND CAYMAN ISLAND, and set the tone for a pleasant visit.

stayed here for two nights in March. it was clean and the help was all very courteous and helpful. the room was nice and clean. the bathroom was small and did not have an exhaust fan which I did not care for. Things seemed a tiny bit worn in the room, dresser drawers didnt open easily and didnt stay shut well when filled with our stuff. TV reception was not great on quite a few channels. Pool area was very nice, clean and well maintained. Hot tub was super hot. Very short little walk out to the beach. Chair attendant was super nice and helpful as was all the help we encountered. Breakfast in the morning was very good, although it didnt start until 7am, so we missed it on the morning we left as we had an early flight. Stingers pool bar and restaurant right next to the pool was good and reasonably priced. Coconut Joes bar and grill right across the street was also good. Overall a good experience and we would stay here again. I would recommend to anyone traveling to 7 mile beach ads a more affordable place to stay. This is right next to a high end major hotel chain, same location for half the cost.

We stayed in Grand Cayman in 2012 and loved it so much we decided to come back. This time we stayed at the Comfort Suites, and we were so happy we did. The rooms were clean, the location was great.

The free breakfast was a huge perk. We were greeted pleasantly by Marnell every morning, and had many choices to eat. There was always fresh fruit, eggs, breakfast meat, toast, bagels, and juice. I didn't try the waffles, but everyone raved about them.

Although not located directly on the beach, there is a short path that leads to the beach, where 2 gentlemen set up chairs and umbrellas for the guests. We didn't sit on the beach too often, but when we did, there were always chairs available.

There is no concierge desk at the Comfort Suites. However, at the front desk are Matthew and Alfredo, who were wonderful, and always willing to help us out. Whether it was to advise us on where to go for dinner, or to make reservations for us, they did so with a smile, and were huge assets to the hotel.

Stingers, the bar located by the pool, has great drink deals, and fabulous lunch. Ambassador Divers is right there, as well, which is the only place I will dive in Grand Cayman!

Overall, we were so happy to stay at The Comfort Suites, and we will absolutely be back in the future.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in had a safe, a tub, and a king sized bed.
