“Great Beach and Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014

Stayed here for 7 nights in August on a last minute vacation. The beach is absolutely lovely. A great stretch of sand in front of the condos. It was never crowded and chairs were always available. Great shady spots on beach too. We really liked how quiet this part of the beach was compared to the Westin or Ritz. The pool was fine...kids were happy to play in it. It was like a hot tub in August (baking in the summer sun all day).

We like to stay at condos for the convenience and space. The unit we had was fine (may have been last one available). The beds were comfortable and furniture fine. Needed a cot as one room had a queen bed)-kids didn't like the cot at all (oh well..at least they had one to offer us). The kitchen was pretty tight (but hey...it's only for a week). One thing we didn't love was the balcony. Yes, they're screened in which is great and we did have a view. But, they are not private because of how they are situated. So when we would sit out at night or at lunch, we would have a clear view of the people right next door who were doing the same thing and we could easily hear their conversations. Also, I was disappointed to learn that smoking is allowed on the balconies (luckily our neighbors weren't smoking). Our unit was at the back of the building and I was surprised by the road noise we could hear from the balcony.

The manager Theresa was lovely. She was helpful and cared about her guests.

We met some lovely families staying there who are repeat visitors. Also, because of the nature of condos, sometimes there were big family groups.

All in all, I would stay here again, likely would try a different unit.

We recently took a family vacation to the Caymans for a week. We have two children over 20 and a teenager. We stayed in unit #25 and this resort and condo were amazing. It is an excellent location and within walking distance to the Westin Hotel and Red Sail Sports. We also walked north to Calico Jacks on the beach. Resort was clean and the staff very friendly. Beach was perfect and not overcrowded. We would stay in unit #25 again as it was nicely decorated and had three sleeping areas as the den is a small bedroom. This was our third trip to the Caymans and the best resort/beach/pool/condo by far.

This was our first trip to the Caymans, but sure hope to return again! We stayed in Unit #35 for 5 nights and would have to say that we were not disappointed. Truly a relaxing family vacation with lots of great memories. There were 5 adults (me, my husband and our 24 yr old daughter, her friend, and our 16 yr old son). Besides loving our unit, the property was beautiful and although we were told the complex was rather full by management, it felt like we were at an exclusive property. No crowds, just us and a few other families enjoying paradise. Our friends also rented Unit #23 (with two teenagers) and were equally as happy. Units were furnished with everything you need. Beach was beautiful. Great sunsets from your beach chair! Also, having teenage children and adult children, it was great for having the Westin a short walk away. The kids took advantage of renting waverunners (banana boat rides available also) and the adult children enjoyed the pool bar. I bought cheap rafts at the dollar store before I left and our security guard was kind enough to inflate them with an air pump as well. My son and husband snorkeled over to the reef at Governor's Beach and loved it. We felt totally safe at our resort as well as on the island. We rented a stand up paddleboard for my son and although our unit was on the third floor we left it on the first floor at the stairwell and never had an issue. We stopped at Fosters on the way in to stock up on items, but think Kirk's may have been a better alternative. Also found a Cost U Less after a few days that I wish I had known about ahead of time. No membership required and similar to Costco. Great for bulk items you may need. Great weather, great people, and truly an island vacation that did not disappoint.

Room Tip: We needed three bedrooms and none are oceanfront (ours was oceanview), but if you only need one or t...

We stayed 3 nights at Plantana and 5 nights at the Beachcomber and found both places to be excellent. We recommend a condo over a hotel for several reasons. You have 3 to 4 times the amount of space and the prices are comparable. If you need more than one room, then the condo becomes more economical. We enjoy having a kitchen, dining room, and living room as well as the privacy of separate bedrooms. It's nice to fix your own breakfasts and we even grilled our dinners three different nights...which again saves on money (and hassle).

The reason we liked Plantana slightly better than Beachcomber is that Plantana has a more homey feel to it in a less crowded area of 7-mile beach. Plantana's units are very well laid out and with two living room areas, they are huge! The ocean view is not quite as good (as Beachcomber) but we liked the beach area better with the palm trees offering nice natural shade.

We also loved the charcoal grills (Beachcomber has gas grills) and enjoyed cooking burgers and steaks on the grill.

Room Tip: We paid for an ocean front room but would probably just opt for a garden view next time.

We stayed here for 8 nights in July. We took the 2-bedroom penthouse suite, #44. This was a bit large for just the three of us (me, husband, 13 year old son), but it was nice to be able to spread out and have different options of where to hang out. Although most days were too hot to spend time on the deck, we did take advantage of the gas grill several times. We ate all breakfasts and lunches in the unit, and a couple of (grilled) dinners. The unit was very well stocked. Everything I needed was there. The views from the deck and balcony were breathtaking. We were never disturbed by any noises.

The beach was great, but not perfect. It was fairly steep heading down to the water. Not conducive for sandcastle building. And the entry was fairly rocky. Small rocks that you could easily walk on, but it was a bit uncomfortable entering. And then there was a quick dropoff. The water itself was great. Good visibility, and it is an easy swim over to the reefs at Governor's beach. The water (at least that week) was a bit wavy. I like to just lie on my raft for hours, and I had to constantly keep paddling back because the current took me out. And one day, some excursion boat from the Westin went by, blaring its sound system. So I had to listen to their music for an hour, which was annoying. Otherwise, it was very quiet and empty. No problems (in July at least) getting shaded chairs.

It was a bit longer of a walk down to the beach than I was expecting, but still nothing onerous. The stairs are in the back, so you have to walk down the stairs, around the building, and then down to the beach. But that was well worth it for the better views you get on the third floor than the convenience of beach access from the ground floor units.

Room Tip: #44 was perfect. Gas grill on the deck, great views from the deck and the balcony. Never heard any...

We love the units that are downstairs with the beach view. There are always plenty of chairs available on the beach and it is never crowded at the Plantana. The units have everything you can ask for except for groceries (grocery stores closed on Sundays). We love eating out at the local restaurants, but there are grills outside if you would like to grill. We usually eat out in the evenings, but we set aside one or two nights to grill hot dogs or hamburgers. We are about to go again this summer! It never gets old. The staff is always nice and it is just beautiful and relaxing! We have stayed in Unit #8 and Unit #12.

Room Tip: #8, #12 great rooms. We love the condos downstairs and closest to the beach and pool. We like to b...

Plantana Condos where a nice surprise. I can say the online photos did not due it justice. We stayed in unit 11 ground floor on the beach. It was a really pretty Condo and the perfect location. It felt like home the minute you walked in. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything a cook would need. We entertained friends on several occasions and it was the prefect fit. The only complaint was on us..lol After seeing another tenant do the same we pulled one of the several BBG grills over to our condo for grilling and was told the next morning that it was not allowed. There are many owners on the property and they and the staff keep not only a close eye on things but could not have been more gracious. I had injured my self before we arrived and one of the board members noticed and promptly gave us direction to the nearest medical facility. Again so helpful. If your looking for a quite place next to million dollars condos, on 7 mile beach this is it. Eat at the Sunshine Grill great food and service. We even did take out one night. Overall a great place to stay!

Room Tip: Room 11, End corner Unit left side facing Ocean, nicely decorated, quality furnishings, comfortable...
