We stayed at this condo the first week of July 2014. The condo is beautifully furnished and well-equipped. The beach is fantastic and the snorkeling was awesome. A wonderful quiet vacation spot away (but not too far) from the crowds downtown! The staff is also knowledgeable and helpful. A wonderful vacation!!

Discovery Point (DPC) was a great place to stay. Location was nice - not too close to Georgetown and all the cruise tourists.

Grounds:
We stayed in unit 18, which is on the 3rd floor. It was quiet and comfortable with great views from the balcony overlooking 7 mile beach and the DPC pool and private beach. Speaking of which, the beach at DPC is outstanding. Easy walk into the ocean on nice soft sand. We snorkeled a number of times off this beach. There is a nice reef to see straight out from the unit but not a whole lot else to the left or right. We did see lots of fish and even ran across 40+ squid while snorkeling.
The area is kept quite clean - the outdoor cleaning crew were there every day.
DPC has a couple propane grills that we used that worked out just fine.
The pool is quite nice and has a nice little hot tub next to it. There was a nice mix of families in the other units. We met some very nice people and our son had a good time playing with other kids. The kids ranged from 4 or 5 to 15-16 years of age.

Unit:
The unit itself was pretty comfortable. The units seemed pretty soundproof and we didn't hear a whole lot of noise from other guests.
The master bedroom had a king bed that was quite soft. If you need a firm bed, this is not the bed for you. The second bedroom had 2 twins. The family room couch was comfortable and there was a small table that seated 4 people for eating. There were 3 or 4 bar stools that could be used to sit/eat at the kitchen counter.
The kitchen was fully stocked with all manner of plates, silverware, pots, pans and the like. The refrigerator was clean and the stove, oven, microwave, and dishwasher all worked just fine.

We did notice that you have to keep all food sealed very tightly at all times or these tiny little ants became a nuisance. Do not leave ANY food on the counter or tables. If you spill any crumbs or drinks, clean it up immediately.
The balcony was nice. Good sized with a table with 4 chairs and 2 chaise lounges. Fully screened in so bugs/birds were not a problem.

Some units provided water gear such as paddleboards and the like. Unit 18 had no such items.

We opted to not have the cleaning crew come into our unit, which worked out fine. Be advised that the floor will be quite sandy/dirty after a short time. It's impossible to get all the sand and such off your gear so inevitably some ends up in the condo.
The unit had its own washer/dryer which was great. We didn't have to pack nearly as much and we did 3-4 loads of laundry throughout the week (including towels since we didn't have maid service). Beach towels are provided by DPC and are available from outside the main office on the grounds. Very convenient.

The unit had wifi and the speed was ok. Not great, but acceptable. The strength of the wifi is weak though - it could barely reach into the front bedroom. We turned the TV on once and the channel selection was ok.

The air conditioning worked just fine, but the humidity was still a bit high in the unit.

Getting around:
You will want a car if you stay here. It's about a 20-30 minute drive from the airport and there is nothing within walking distance. There is a grocery store (Fosters) about 2 minute drive north, but there is a nicer Fosters closer to Georgetown (about a 5-10 minute drive). There are numerous beach entry points scattered around the area, including Cemetery beach, which was really nice. You could walk there, but it'd take about 10 minutes if you've got snorkel gear.
It's an easy drive to Georgetown where there are lots of restaurants and touristy stores.

Summary:
I'd stay at DPC again. In all likelihood I'd try a different unit, not because anything was wrong with 18, but I'd like to try a first floor unit next time. The first floor units walk out right onto the beach, which looked nice. The 2nd and 3rd floor units require a short walk around the unit to get to the beach. There are no elevators.
Very nice place to stay!

Just to let everyone know the paddle boards are not owned by individual condos but are supplied by a rental company and can be rented through the DPC office.

We just returned from DPC and had a great time. We loved the beach at DPC. The beach is rocky and full of coral. This makes a great snorkelling spot. The water clarity is amazing! We saw sea turtles, sting rays, lobster, conch, sand dollars, and of course many beautiful fish. We rented a car and traveled to all of the snorkelling spots suggested. We believe that there is no better place than in front of DPC. There are sandy bottom spots throughout Seven Mile Beach. A short walk next to DPC and you can walk and play in the water without rocks.

Recommendations:
1. Pick a ground level unit. We were on the third floor during our stay. The third floor has great views, but it's not fun carrying everything up the stairs. The lower units have easy walk out access to the beach and pool.
2. Rent a car during your stay. This allows you to explore and see some other sites. We really enjoyed Rum Point and Starfish Point.
3. Shop at Cost-U-Less first, before going to local grocery store. This is like a Costco or Sams Club. You do not need a membership! It is just down the road from DPC.
4. Go to the Fish Market in George Town for fresh fish. We went around 11 A.M. and picked up tuna. He cleaned it all up for us to take back to the condo. We made sashimi and tuna steaks--Yum!

Keep in mind:
1. The American dollar is weak in the Cayman Island. It is a set rate of $1 Cayman to $1.25 U.S. Most prices are in Cayman Dollars so remember that when shopping or dining out.
2. There is a 15% gratuity added to dining checks.
3. Dining out in Grand Cayman is expensive. In my opinion, even more expensive than Hawaii. We tried eating out once a day. For a family of four we spend about $80-100 U.S. with tip for lunch and dinner was usually $140-200 U.S. with tip.

I have to conclude by mentioning the grounds and staff. The grounds are beautifully maintained and well kept. The staff was friendly and helpful. If we return to Grand Cayman, we would definitely pick DPC again for our stay.

Thanks for the detailed review. It should be helpful to all. One clarification-when you say "rocky beach" you are referring to the coral in the water not the all sand beach at DPC.

We selected these club based on the reviews - and we were not disappointed.
We used to live and work in Grand Cayman and lived on Seven Mile Beach in the 1980s. We used to live much closer to Georgetown but 20+ years of high rise development has spoilt that part of the beach.
Discovery Point is about three miles away from Georgetown and is on the quieter end of wonderful Seven Mile Beach. If your ideal of a holiday is to be on a crowded beach and to be close to local bars and restaurants then stay closer to Georgetown!
The apartment was well presented and comfortable. There was a good size pool and plenty of cover from the sun. This is a very quiet and relaxing base for a holiday! Snorkelling from the beach was excellent (saw a turtle) and there was another good snorkelling spot a few minutes up the beach. Ann Rose in the office was well informed and very helpful.
If you stay here, you need a car. However, the local supermarket (well stocked in less than 5 minutes away) and there are lots of places to eat within about 5-10 minutes drive.

My family and I stayed in Unit 4 the week of June 28th. We all agreed it was the most beautiful water we had ever experienced. Unit 4 is on the first floor where it was just 15 steps from our door to the cabana in front of our unit. Although on the first floor, the view of the water was not obstructed since the unit is located to the right of the pool area. There was plenty of shady spots to pick from and although the place was full, the beach was not crowded or noisy. You do need your water shoes but can go snorkeling right from the beach. The unit itself was very clean and very nicely decorated. There was a tv in the living area and the two bedrooms. We were 5 adults and there was plenty of room in the unit. Every thing we needed was provided in the unit. The screened in porch was a nice place to eat meals. The best part was being steps away from the beach. It was very convenient.
You do need a car. There was a supermarket right up the road and a few places to eat within a very short drive.
We hope to return to Discovery point club soon and will request Unit4!

Room Tip: The first floor is nice since you walk right out onto beach. The second and third floors use stairs...

Glad you selected DPC for your 1st visit to Cayman. All the units in the DPC rental pool are well appointed. Be aware that a few units in the complex are under "off site" management and we have no control over the quality or management. It is best to check the DPC web site to confirm the unit you wish is in our rental pool. Thanks for the traveler tips you provided.

This condo was great. Very close to the ocean. We usually stay in very large condo buildings. I was a little worried staying on the ground floor. I have to say it was the best. We walked right out onto the beach with pool just a few steps away. Area was very quiet. We stayed in unit #29 and it was very well stocked and clean. The pictures don't do it justice. Ollie in the office was great and very helpful with anything we needed. The maid service was wonderful. We will return to Grand Cayman and Discovery Point Club unit #29.

This is our second time in Grand Cayman and our second time to stay at discovery point club. The location is hard to beat. Right on the water and beautiful beach front. The entrance to the water can be rocky but the upside to that is there are 100s of different fish right in front of your unit. You can find a sandier entrance to the water by going about 30 yards south in front of another condo complex.

The entire staff is very nice and incredibly helpful. They will help you with anything - book excursions, car rentals, recommend restaurants, etc... Our door had an issue and it was fixed within the hour.

The beach never feels crowded which is nice. It is far enough north on 7mb that you don't have the big crowds, but is close to all the great restaurants 7mb has to offer.

The one very frustrating issue that DPC has is with the chairs on the beach. There are only so many chairs and palapas in front of DPC. People set their stuff up and NEVER move it. It stays there all night and nothing is done. Every palapa has been claimed all week. People leave their floats, beach toys and towels overnight to claim their spot. Many times you don't even see these people other than a few hours each day. It's just unfortunate because every prime spot has been "reserved" during our entire stay. I am surprised DPC does not do a sweep every night where they take all the towels and items "reserving chairs" and bring them to the office and put them in "lost and found". I do feel if this is "how it it going to be" at DPC you might as well be assigned a beach space during your stay. At 6am every day 80% of the spots were already taken since the majority of people just abandon everything in order to hold their spot.

Anyhow - great place. The chair saving practice is an issue though that may keep me from staying here again. That's unfortunate because it could be fixed so easily.

Thank you for returning to DPC and your insightful suggestions. The issue of "saved chairs" is on the agenda for the Executive Committee's board meeting in August.
