We were debating between the Marriott and VRBO, similar prices for our family of 4. Boy were we happy with our VRBO choice #36 with Trinda at Cayman Reef (508335 on VRBO).

Location...perfectly situated on SMB within walking distance of grocery stores, restaurants, rental cars, plenty of snorkeling spots, the beach.

Views... The format of Cayman Reef gives lots of units patios with views to the water and beautifully landscaped courtyard. We found the beach in early April to be nearly empty, as compared with the beach in front of the Marriott, which was a zoo. We spent a ton of our time on our screened in porch because we could see the water and the nice landscaping. It could use a ceiling fan as an improvement, but we loved eating our breakfasts and lunches as well as reading and playing cards out here (where I'm writing now :). ).

Amenities... kitchen, nice hide-a-bed, nice linens in the bedroom, some beach towels. Wifi, and a super nice touch...a cell phone with 60 free minutes to call for reservations. The pool was clean and lovely for the kids to play in. We didn't find any spare tennis rackets, but there is a tennis racket.

Logistics...no problems paying, a nice welcome letter with orientation and recommendations, and some initial "imperfections" taken care of swiftly.

Activities nearby...We really enjoyed walking the beach to various restaurants...Luca's, The Wharf, Hemingway's. The bus was easy to pick up outside the condo, and many activities would pick us up. We loved the snorkeling out in front of Plantation Village...walk south on the beach and enter the water when you get to the stone wall. Go out to the buoy for some gorgeous colorful reef.

Noise...we were parts of most days. Mostly quiet and able to hear the water most of the time. Only one day did we hear construction at the resort next door. In the evenings, we never heard Royal Palms noise once we went inside.

Great place!!

Room Tip: Number 36 can see the water and landscaping from the patio

My wife and I stayed in unit #35 at CRR for a week in late January 2014. There are really good things but we had a few small issues, so really I would rate it good – between average and very good. I’ll comment on both the condo complex and the unit we rented.
Complex:
Right on 7 mile beach, there are beautiful stretches of beach to walk in either direction.
Grounds were very well kept & clean
Outdoor lighting is nicely done around the resort & pool area and very attractive in the evening.
Mostly, it was quiet at night, but at least one night there was the booming base of a near by hotel/party heard until late inside the condo. Also, at night we could hear some noise (showers/toilets?) from the upstairs condo.
There is assigned parking by condo number.
There was no staff on-site on weekends (at least that we could find)…some minor problems we had weren’t resolved for 2 or 3 days (office closed Sat., Sun. and the Monday we arrived was an island holiday). The office staff, however, was very polite and helpful when we were able to ask for assistance.
There were only 6 beach umbrellas for a complex with around 50 condos? Each day, except Saturday, early in the morning the umbrellas had been ‘claimed’ by folks putting towels over the chairs. After our morning dive trips we would return to condo and perhaps by 4:00 p.m. or later, an umbrella would be open… However, given the number of condos and width of beach space, the only way to have very many more would be to ‘stack’ them in rows, like some of the high-rise hotels do, which I don’t consider appealing either. (From talking with other guests, however, apparently some of the unit’s owners provide smaller umbrellas to take to the beach.)
Condo #35:
Nice 1BR, plenty spacious and comfortable for my wife and me.
Kitchen well furnished with cookware, dishes, blender, toaster, and full size frig.
Patio area was enclosed, providing additional space with a round dining table with 4 chairs, although this seemed to limit the space to hang wet swimsuits, towels, wetsuits, etc. (There was an ‘extra’ shower curtain rod hanging in the shower which was definitely helpful.)
King size bed in bedroom…slept OK, but perhaps the bedding seems to be showing age and a bit soft.
Wireless printer is available, which we used to print boarding passes, saving us some time at the GCM airport.
A very good location on the property - close to pool and steps from beach, but not right on the beachfront.
The Wi-Fi did not work when we arrived and I had planned to rely on Wi-Fi for email and text messaging, as I did not have an international calling plan.
There was a car parked in the #35 spot when we arrived. Owner clearly stated we were to park only in the #35 space…So we found a spot near the condo to stop and unload luggage and then moved car to the front entrance for a ‘visitor’ spot…repeat again with grocery shopping later that evening. So with no wifi and no parking and no one on site to help, it took some relatively expensive international calls to owner in US to try to resolve. The parking was still an issue until after Monday (3 days of our week-long visit).
The thermostat was programmed with no apparent way to adjust. And although it seemed a bit warm (74F) when we arrived, it was not too bad. Then in the middle of night, my wife got out of bed to find a blanket… the temp was set to 69F. Once the wifi started working, the owner set me a pdf file on how to change thermostat to a manual mode, and for the remaining days we were comfortable both day and night.
The issues we had were minor and not likely to repeat (and possible at any condo with no staff on the weekends), but I’ll not return to Cayman Reef. One reason is the lack of a chair with a spot of shade on the beach, which we never found there during the day. In previous visits to Grand Cayman, we have stayed at condos/houses located in or near West Bay, which is removed from the crowds & noise of 7 mile beach and seem to be a preferred alternative for my wife and me.

We stayed at #5 for 10 amazing days. It was 79 at night and 85 during the day, everyday! It was a great place to say. We were there from Dec. 22 thru Jan 1st. The fire works show during the New Years eve was great, we sat on the beach and watched them from Camana Bay to all the way up 7-mile beach. The grounds are taken care of every Monday. The pool was 30 feet from our door and the beach wasn't more than 100 feet away.

We loved staying here as are working on a way to buy one of the units currently because we loved it so much. This was our second time to the island.

This was our second visit to Grand Cayman and Seven Mile Beach, It was our first time renting a condo, and it worked out perfectly. We stayed at #32, right on the beach, and it was everything we hoped it would be. Luscious white sands, beautiful blue seas and skies. CRR is a beautifully maintained facility, with a great pool and good looking grounds.

Almost as important are the off-beach facilities, and CRR excels. Within a 10 minute walk you have lots of dine-in and take-out eating options, including espresso and smoothies. There are shops right across the street, and Camana Bay, with more shops, restaurants and a cinema, is also within a 10-minute walk. We didn't use a car, but if you need, Andy's is right across the street.

Finally, the owner, Marc, was a delight to deal with. Helpful with information, punctual in his communications, he ensured we had a great time.

We looked at several places while we were there, and we're planning another visit to Grand Cayman in a few months. We'll choose CRR again, as it has everything that makes a vacation a great vacation.

We absolutely enjoyed this wonderful condo! Vanessa was so great to work with and always readily available if we needed her. She was a great wealth of information for us as well. The condo was clean, inviting, roomy and very accommodating for the 5 of us. The decor was tastefully done as well. We enjoyed early mornings on the beach in the lounge chairs that were provided and was able to watch some incredible sunrises and see the cruise ships come in. It was nicely located as well within walking distance of quite a few eating places for us. We would definitely stay in this condo again!!!
