“Loved Chris Columbus Condos and Cayman”
Reviewed 13 January 2010

Traveled to Grand Cayman for a week to bring in the New Year with my niece Olivia 14 and my nephew Matt 18 and decided to stay at the CC condos in unit #1. The owner, Melinda, is very sweet and couldn't have been more helpful in arranging everything. Once we got there we were really happy with the condo. The 2 bdrm unit gave us plenty of room to spread out and was perfect for the kids. The beaches and pool are really beautiful and so convenient. I've traveled a bit in Mexico and to several caribbean islands but had always gotten a hotel but this was so much more comfortable, especially with teens. The condo is beautifully decorated and having a nice full kitchen allowed us to have breakfasts and lunches there and most dinners out. I would recommend Sunshine Grill and Cracked Conch for some great meals. We stocked up on groceries just down the road at Fosters and that saved us a good deal. For snorkeling we really liked Cemetary Beach just a few hundred yards down the beach, the wreck at the South Sound, and the reefs near the Cracked Conch---all were outstanding. My niece loved swimming with the dolphins at Dolphin Cove and my nephew had an amazing experience finishing up his SCUBA certification with the guys at Off the Wall Divers...we all had a blast and would highly recommend CC condos and Grand Cayman to anyone...

You're looking for the postcard from paradise, but you want to feel at home, right ? The location of CC is ideal. Right on the beautiful 7-Mile beach, but up in the north end, away from the crowds. The sand on the beach was wonderfully clean, soft, and fine. The pool is right there, next to the beach. The snorkeling out front is great. Clear, with lots of fish to check out. The accomodations are complete, clean and up to date. You don't have a washer-dryer, but you can use the community ones. Completely outfitted kitchen with all the utensils/appliances, plus beach toys to play with. Maid service isn't 5-star, but the staff is very accomodating and friendly. Lisa and her staff make you feel right at home.

You don't want to spend a million bucks, right ? The prices are great, for what you get. No restaurant, massage service in site, but there is much around to take care of those needs.

You must go to Calypso Grill (upper crust), Sunshine Grill (fish tacos) at least once. Order Domino's, it's delivered cheap and hot !

The sunsets are to die for.....and CCC is a great place for the experience.

We just returned from our stay over Christmas 2009 and couldn't have been happier with the condo. We decided to book after the advice of fellow tripadvisors and the great reviews - and we were not disappointed. We had a 2 bedroom garden unit which was very clean and spacious. A quick walk around the corner and we were at the pool and beach. Everyone there (employees and other guests and owners) were extremely nice and helpful. The grounds were very well maintained and the beach spectacular. We would recommend highly!

We stayed at Christopher Columbus Unit 8 - Dec 6 - 13th, 2009. We prefer a quiet, relaxing vacation and were not disappointed! Our unit was a 3 BR/2 BA ground floor, facing the ocean and was very nice. It was well-equipped and they had daily maid service, which is very helpful. Ian made our reservation and was very helpful with questions and changes. The on-site manager is very nice and accomodating also. The beach is BEAUTIFUL. I read many reviews and travel books before going and Christopher Columbus was highly recommended. The beach/resort lived up to all the reviews. It's at the quiet end of 7 mile which was truly perfect. After years of vacationing on crowded Mexico beaches, this was a wonderful change! A car is recommended to get around the area, but we did not rent one. We enjoy walking and walked to the grocery story (10-13 minute walk) and to Neptunes. We used the bus service to go out to dinner at night and get back from the store if we had a lot of bags. The bus is cheap ($2 US per person) and we never had to wait very long to catch one. If you plan on going around a lot, you will probably want a car. We ate at the following restaurants: Chicken Chicken, Cracked Conch, Reef Grill, Neptunes, Eats Cafe, Lobster Pot and yes, even Pizza Hut. We didn't have a bad meal. We also used Red Sail sports for a sail boat cruise and we really enjoyed that also. The Turtle Farm was a nice experience. Not much to do but we loved holding a turtle. Overall, a WONDERFUL vacation.

The condos are located on an absolutely gorgeous (and quite) section of Seven Mile Beach. The beach itself is breathtaking, sand like powder, long sandy run out without rocks or turtle grass and lots of marine life just off the shore. Having stayed at another hotel immediately after our stay at Christopher Columbus, I can say that the beach at CC was far superior.
My husband, 19 month old son and I stayed in a 3 bedroom condo with my parents. The condo was adorable, very spacious, equipped for everything and had a balcony that overlooked the beach. My aunt and uncle and their family stayed in a condo in the adjoining building. The kitchens had everything you would need to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner if you were so inclined.
The vibe of the place was one of its best features. Because of the condo set up, everyone staying there was there with family and kids. Instead of being loud or intrusive there was a really laid-back, relaxed feel that permeated everything we did. The beach, pool and common areas never felt crowded and there was always plenty of space to spread out and make yourself at home.
The management and cleaning staff were wonderful and very accommodating as well.
And now my ONLY caveat: these are condos, meaning you are 100% on your own for food, drink, emergency toiletries, etc. We knew this coming in and made sure to hit up the supermarket on our way from the airport. However, it did become a strain after a couple days due to the fact that we were sharing a rental car and had to rely on others to give us a lift. There is one beach bar in walking distance that we never actually made it to, but everything else requires a car.

The word that comes to mind to describe this vacation is "relaxation." The location that the condo is situated on is perfect for such a vacation since it is in the northern section of SMB and close enough to everything (i.e., grocery stores and restaurants)but far enough that you can get away from the noise and the crowd. Do note that when I say close to things, I do mean with a car as it is brutally hot to walk to the grocery store and the restaurants are at least 5 minutes driving distance. The furthest restaurants we drove to in Georgetown took about 15 minutes, unless the ships are in the town then drive would probably take longer. But before I digress further, here is my review of the condo:

CONDO:
We stayed in condo unit #1, which is a garden view unit on the ground floor, so we were only 20 steps away from the beach and had easy access for when we needed more drinks/food from the condo. The laundry room is about 3 doors down from our unit, and the manager's unit is right next to ours. The kitchen was FULLY EQUIPPED. We were truly surprised by things that we found. It was better stocked than my own kitchen! There is a dining room and a living room with a flat screen TV. There is also a small patio where we ate most of our breakfasts and lunches. The two bedrooms are cozy and clean and come with plenty of storage space. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. Our bedroom had a comfortable queen size bed and the other room had two twin beds that we pushed together to make one bigger bed. My sister in law commented that it was actually very comfortable. The daily maid service (except Sundays) was great. They are sweet women and so nice. Lisa, the manager, was so helpful that we dubbed her our "savior" half the time. We were in her office quite frequently to ask for directions to restaurants that were off the beaten path. Thanks Lisa!

BEACH:
WOW! That's about the best way I can describe this beach. Water is amazingly calm and crystal clear. Turquoise as far as your eyes can see and also teeming with the greatest marine life. We went to cemetery reef to compare and honestly, you don't need to bother with the walk. The beach at C.C. is comparable if not better than the cemetery reef snorkeling. Plenty of palapas and beach chairs to go around. Pool is small but clean and nice. We never used it since the beach was too amazing to pass up.

MISCELLANEOUS:
If you're craving local food, there are plenty of eateries to visit that won't cost you an arm and a leg. We were constantly at Luz's restaurant (Local/Hondurian) and Dada's (Filipino Cuisine). Other places we tried that were also just as delicious: Champion House II (local), Coconut Joe's (try mahi-mahi sandwhich), Esso gas station for the meat patties, and Antica Gelataria for the gelato. We were also fortunate that Chef John cooked at the C.C. for one night and the ribs and chicken and potato salad was to die for! Yum! If she's not there when you're staying there, she's usually stationed at the West Bay Public Beach, about 5 minutes drive from C.C.

Much thanks to Melinda, the condo owner. She is helpful and pleasurable to work with. Lisa, thank you for your patience with us and for all your help as well. To the staff of C.C., thank you for making our stay memorable. Hopefully we will see you soon.

This was our first visit to Grand Cayman, so not wanting to rely on just our own research, we used a travel agency (Caradonna- thanks Shelley!) and after considering a few other options along Seven Mile Beach, we decided on these condos, and are very pleased we did so. This place is perfect for a family, especially those who prefer a stay at the quieter part of SMB. In addition to the gorgeous beach, there is a nice pool. The sea is teeming with life, you can see fish just as soon as you wade in. There are several cabanas on the beach and plenty of chairs and lounge chairs. The units and grounds are kept very clean and nice. The kitchen has all the pots and pans and utensils you might need to prepare full meals. We enjoyed the daily visits by the maid, not that lots of cleaning was needed but because our daughter loved chatting with her. The manager, Lisa, was very nice and helpful. We were also lucky to have a beach bbq happening on one of the nights during our stay- it was lovely hanging out at the beach all evening, having some nice locally made food, taking a zillion pictures of the sunset, and watching our daughter doze off on the hammock at the beach. Being usually happy to walk or take public transportation everywhere, and underestimating the intensity of the heat, I had initially thought we could walk to the food store (what was I thinking?) But one does need a car to do grocery shopping. We did not need a car every day, just rented it for the days we wanted to do excursions and shopping, and the days we did rent, Andy's Car Rental picked us up and dropped us off. Other businesses (Soto's Stingray City Cruise, for example, and some dive ops) also do pick ups, so keep this in mind if you'd rather not drive to everything. Also there's a public bus stop just outside the Condos, and they seem to be pretty frequent, so for 4 or 2 Cayman dollars, you can get to West Bay or Georgetown (and if you tell the driver where you want to go they'll drop you off just at the right spot). We had a wonderful time at the CCC and wished we could've stayed a little longer.
