“And relax”
Reviewed 1 December 2011

From the moment you check in to the moment you leave the staff make you feel great and the setting is perfect. The advice on where to snorkel with the kids was perfect, the service was attentive but not obvious and the food was superb. The sommelier in the main steak restaurant made a fantastic set of recommendations.

Best of all though is that initial feeling of relaxation that comes from walking out on to the beach and realising that right now the only thing that anyone wants you to do is chill out.

Room Tip: Get a room over looking the pool and sea, it costs more but it makes a massive difference in the qua...

We have just returned from one week at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, just before Thanksgiving Day.

The hotel, location and service were amazing. Congratulations to The Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton. The 7MB, although some days overcrowded at RC, was awesome with warm crystal clear calm sea water. It was one of the greatest sea water we had ever met.

Nevertheless, there were some minimal negative points we want to recall. There were limited choices at the buffet breakfast at 7 restaurant each morning, for the high price paid (80,50 USD including taxes for two), compared to other hotels from the same brand. No champagne at all. Also, we missed the Bulgari bath amenities, which was a tradition at The Ritz-Carlton. There were too many beach events for our taste, which limited the beach area available to general hotel guests. Finally, it was strange for a 6 years old hotel, that we couldn’t recall our bill at the TV. Compared to the overall experience, all these points were insignificant.

No doubt that The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is a great 5 stars hotel and we will certainly return with “Our Pleasure”.

My family and I just got back from a wonderful 6 days of bliss at the Ritz in Cayman. The hotel is top notch and has an excellent location. I am a Premier member with Marriott and did this trip on points. The week before I received an email from on of the hotel's hosts asking me if I would like a different type of room then what I had reserved. We were upgraded. The attention to detail only started there, the service and staff was top notch. We were on the Pool side and had the luxury of being down the hallway from the Spa/Gym which was a huge plus. Great facility, one that I would say everyone should leverage.
To get to the beach one has to walk over the road which was very nice and relaxing giving the art work hung on the walls and soft music. To net it out the walk is not an issue for anyone and actually helps you wake up in the am or cool off on the way back in the afternoon.
You do need to get up early being 7:30AM to get the key beach chair you are looking for. Not every beach chair has an umbrella or shade if you are at one of the pools. Once you have your chair saved it is good for two hours, so you can head back to the gym or the family and hang out etc.
Activity I would highly recommend renting a car from Avis on site and tour the eastern end of the island. Rum Point is great, but get there before the cruise ship folks do and take all the chairs. Drive the whole east end, great small public beaches to stop at. The blow hole is great fun to.
The other is sting ray city, do this via. Fat Fish Adventures which is a jet ski tour out to the sting ray. You blast out on your own jet ski and it is a real treat to be out there on the ocean blasting away. Make sure you take the last tour of the day this way you can capture sunset on the ocean and there is no pressure to get back to meet a cruise ship departure time.

The bottom line is the resort is tremendous and we would go back in a heart beat, enjoy your time there!

It's a Ritz-Carlton, so it's going to be nice - and it was. However, it's a very large hotel with a lot of people and A LOT OF KIDS. I went there for a long weekend with my girlfriend and while we had a nice time, I would have enjoyed a little more peace and quiet. It would be a great place to take kids though. I heard later that there was an adult pool, but I never saw it and it's not on the Ritz's website resort map. That would have been nice.

The beach was crowded, but I'm an early riser so it was never hard getting a chair. The service on the beach certainly could have been better, you had to flag down a waitress/waiter because it was so crowded. Most of the time I just went up to the bar and got my own drink rather than wait.

All of restaurants that we ate at were very good. I would recommend any of the restaurants in there. They were pricey, but again, you have to expect that at the Ritz.

We rented an ocean front room, which was nice, but not spectacular. Though these rooms are quite a bit more than the resort rooms, the are worth it if you don't mind spending the extra money because the resort rooms are very far back from the beach (look at the resort map on their website).

This hotel is a excellent choice for the Grand Cayman, however here are the pros and cons, we stayed in a Club level room with ocean view

Pros
Excellent Location
Very polite helpful staff
Excellent beach cabanas
Excellent food
Turn down service each night

Cons
BEDROOM! you would think by the decor you are in a marriot bedroom, NOTHING SPECIAL except the view.
Beds are very uncomfortable with pillows made of fresh air
Not great on the extras in the room , average shampool, no slippers 1 dressing gown, room needed new carpet and the towels were hard

This hotel is expensive for what you get, having stayed at Ritz hotels before I expected the same but this is more casual surroundings in need of updating, as said before great staff but thats where it ended, the housekeeping service should at least vacuum the carpet each day which didn't happen and the room was dusty upon arrival and this remained for the weeks stay. The food in the club lounge was rather limited.

The hotel is also split across the street beach side has pool, and one resturant and the other side also has a pool and several resturants along with spa and club lounge.

Don't bother with the ritz tea if you are british- not as we know it!

We had a great time here (even during a cold snap that minimized our beach time) during the Cayman Cookout. Cooking and dining events with Eric Ripert (who runs their signature restaurant) and David Chang (of Momofuku in NYC) were memorable. We had a beachfront suite and actually got to watch many of the events from our own balcony. Great beach, but be aware that half of the rooms are actually across the highway from the water (garden view) and are a long walk from the beach (though indoors in an elevated pedestrian causeway over the main road). We had our own full-sized kitchen (a little overkill considering the food-oriented week we were there) with fresh fruit, coffee and teas provided in a spacious suite complete with Bose sound system and flat-panel TV. There are stores for groceries and liquor just down the road, walking distance, if you want to do it yourself. The parking is all on that far "garden" side as well, if you're planning on bringing a rental car. At least they have a second pool area over there if you're not up for the hike. It's a few miles out of town, a five minute taxi ride, but you can tell if it's going to be jammed with tourists just by looking down the beach to see how many cruise ships are docked that day and avoid the crowds.

Room Tip: The western "beach" half has memorable views and nice surf sounds to soothe your sleep. Th...
