“Complaints Are Simply Inexplicable...”

My wife, 4 year old son, and I spent 5 nights at the Ritz. Our first trip to the Caymans, and our first trip to the Caribbean as well. Could not have been more pleased! The resort itself is beautiful, and the staff is absolutely the best we have ever encountered. Everyone from the housekeepers, to the wait staff, to the front desk goes out of their way to ensure you have what you need and feel cared for. Our package included a daily breakfast buffet (amazing selection including waffles made to order and smoked fish options) and a daily US $100 resort credit good for food or other sundries anywhere on property. With food being free in most onsite restaurants for children under 5, we found that (with only a little planning) my wife and I were able to eat and drink with nothing additional out of pocket. (Note: In the interest of full disclosure, we eat lighter than most, and typically shared an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Servings are quite generous.) We did not need to venture offsite except for a day trip to Georgetown (which we found a bit too touristy), and a couple of trips to the nearby grocery store (IGA). The grocery is a short walk from the resort, and has extremely reasonable prices. The only (very) minor low point of our stay was having to witness a fellow guest in the throes of a conniption fit due to an imagined slight in service by one of the waitstaff at Bar Jack. You have to love the irony of a grown woman having a full-blown tantrum because a well-meaning waitress had the audacity to serve kids' meals to 2 nearby toddlers before the woman was brought her own food (which she rightfully should have received before the toddlers, I suppose). She has promised to write a letter to "headquarters". That should be a doozy!

My (now) husband and I were married at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman over Memorial Day weekend and could not have been happier with our decision to be married at this resort. As another reviewer stated, we did not have the best weather during our stay but still had an amazing experience at the resort. Overall, our wedding planner, Elena, did an excellent job - though there were a few glitches (nothing major). The resort itself is immaculate and the beach is one of the best that we have ever seen. The extra amenities provided at the beach (i.e., paddle boards, water tricycles, kayaks, floating beds) along with the plush lounge chairs with individual sun shades really took it over the top. The rooms are spacious and while the decor is not my taste it fits with the Caribbean vibe.

The best part of the resort is the staff. They go out of their way to make sure that every guest feels special and is taken care of. We were so impressed by how many staff remembered our names and that we had just been married. I visited the spa on the day of the wedding and was extremely impressed by the design and the staff - Julia gave me an amazing manicure. We also hosted our wedding dinner at Blue by Eric Ripert and had an excellent experience there. Kristian Netis, the sommelier, really went out of his way to make it special, including teaching me how to use a champagne sabre to open the bottle for the toast!

As other reviewers have also stated, the resort (and whole island, actually) is pricey. Its not a place to stay for those who are concerned about drink and food prices. We definitely felt our experience at the resort was well worth the money and hope to be back for an anniversary!

This is a lovely property - the grounds, rooms, public spaces and the beach!
I have never seen more lovely water - it is really gin clear.
The Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment is just incredible. We went on a great night snorkel with them.

Although we did not stay here (stayed at Westin which my husband and I loved), We really appreciated the poolside service, the pool was outstanding. Especially liked their Pina Colada,I think that it was the best on the island. The Ritz grounds are really beautiful to look at when you are passing by. We ate at the restaurant and the service was excellent, not to mention the sunset.

Having stayed at a number of other Ritz properties, we were disappointed with the level of service and the room in general. The property is on a gorgeous stretch of beach. We had an ocean view room, which was lovely. That said, we were supposed to have a king bed room, but they were out of availability when we arrived so we ended up with two doubles (that were called queens). After making multiple calls and finally asking for the room manager on duty, we got a king room after two days. From a cleanliness perspective, the room was fine, but nothing great. The phone was clearly dirty and when that was so obvious it made me wonder about the details I couldn't see. Occasionally, calling guest services resulted in a resolution, but there were a number of instances where we were given a poor response or we had to call back more than once. This was a stark contrast to other luxury property resorts where you can almost count on your needs being met and even exceeded. Sadly, that rarely happened here. The spa was nice, the food was good and some employees stood out; however, overall, the experience was lackluster. Due to our room move, an amenity wasn't delivered to us. After multiple calls to locate the amenity, finally an employee recognized an opportunity to accommodate the oversight. Mauricio offered us a free ride to the airport in the hotel car which we appreciated. Finally, someone who offered a concession! To some, this review may sound picky and high maintenance, but when you're paying what you pay for these rooms (and on the island for that matter) and you're at a Ritz property, the expectations are simply higher. In addition, James who works on the beach, had a great attitude and was one step ahead of our needs. Beyond the property, we enjoyed a couple of dining spots: Paperman's (a nice cafe that offers great coffee and yummy pastries and lunch options; Agua (a Peruvian restaurant that was affordably priced ~$120 US dollars for wine and dinner for 2) and Luca (while the meal wasn't overly memorable, it was good food and the ambiance is hip). We heard amazing reviews about Blue (the restaurant on property).

Room Tip: Would recommend ocean view rooms

We just spent four wonderful days at this hotel. At first it is quite intimidating because of the sheer size of the hotel, but as soon as we found our way it was easy. First let me start off by saying that the service in this hotel is quite amazing, the number of staff is huge but every person we met was super friendly and extremely helpful. It is very easy to feel like a superstar here! I had two spa treatments and they were both great. They use amazing products and once again the staff were just wonderful. Overall I would say that this is great value for your money because it is not a cheap holiday but so worth it.

If we can walk away from our 5th trip to the caymans but 1st timers at this ritz and say we had a wonderful time even though it rained and/or was heavily overcast 9 of 10 days, imagine how great this resort is in great weather!!! I mean inches and inches of down pouring rain for 6 days straight with flooded streets and 90 percent plus humidity. The ritz handled this unreal situation and it's guests better than anyone could expect. They had dj's in the silver palm lounge at night, board games, extra staff so everyone croweded in the bars/lounges each night had fast service. So on to our review...
We were greeted right after customs by the hotel BMW car service, $89/way for a very nice BMW that whisked us to the ritz in 10-15 minutes. They new our last name from day one and I'd say 90 percent of the employees mentioned our name ever time they passed us. Our room was ready immediately and was exactly what we expected. Some comments that the decor is too traditional for the caymans but I think it's traditional ritz, it's not the gansevoort. We booked an Oceanside room and had a great view from the 5th floor, but I will guess that unless you are on at least the 4th floor your view is more palm tree, pool view vs. ocean...that being said, on our next stay I would not be opposed to staying on the resort side in either a resort or garden view room and save the extra $100-$200/night. We were back and forth many times a day for the fitness center, spa, lounge/bar and the walk is 5 minutes, really easy and it was nice to look at all the artwork displayed. (if you are debating between hotels, I would pick any room at the ritz vs. a better room/view at a different hotel).
Pools: we spent half of out time at the main/Oceanside pool and half at the quiet/resortside pool, we liked the both for different reasons.
Company group trips: there was a large company group trip for 5 of the days we were there. I was nervous that the resort would be overrun but actually the ritz kept them all separated each night and it never interfered with our evening plans- we walked right into restaurants without reservations.
Spa: we did the 90 minute aromatherapy couples massage in the couples suite on 2 different days and both were fabulous. The 1st floor of the spa is open to all guests, sauna, steam, whirlpool, etc...and the 2nd floor was only for treatment guests and was amazing, separate seating areas with white drapes and comfy couches and we got to choose our own music to be played during our massages, the had 20ish to choose from.
Restaurants: we ate at all the hotels restaurants and always had a fabulous meal. We only ate breakfast 2x but the buffet had everything you could want. Lunch was at either periwinkles or bar jacks and both were efficient and delicious. 7 prime steakhouse, periwinkles, taikun for sushi and blue were all top notch but I will say that blue although fabulous was very, very pricey. For 2 adults we spent between $250-$450 (with the exception of the night we went to blue) each day for 2 meals and drinks daily.
Cabanas: we thought about renting a cabana for our days by the pool, obviously we didn't with all the rain...but incase you are interested, they were $250-$300 daily depending on if you want the oasis or beach cabanas. I think the beachbeds are a lot cheaper. After saying here, there are plenty of umbrellas for lounge chairs and we only saw 10 kids the whole time we were there.

Resort fee: $45/ day included free wifi and use of their laptops, entrance to the spa and fitness center (has everything you need for a complete workout) free valet and DVD movie library, there maybe more but this was what we noticed...
P.s. restaurants we thought were fabulous off-site are, luca and edoardos both a very short walk, 5 minutes and we didn't need reservations for a 7pm dinner.
