The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
Ranked #3 of 10 Hotels in Seven Mile Beach
Reviewed 11 March 2013

The Rtiz Grand Cayman remains a top quality resort hotel. The service and rooms compete ate the top tier of luxury properties. The staff quickly gain knowledge of the resort guests and, in doing so, treat them like members of an extended family. The beach, on the renowned Seven Mile Beach, features fine quality sand and waters. The dining experiences are top notch. While pricey, the property is one of the best at which we have stayed with sustained quality.

Just got back from a 3 day escape and would definitely go back. The food is great everywhere from Blue to Barjack. I was impressed. The property is large and by far the nicest on the beach. The beach is a bit crowded but every time I asked for 2 chairs they were delivered. Stay away from the resort, restaurants and drinks if you are worried about cost.

We spent three nights at the Ritz Carlton and left impressed by somethings and disappointed by others. Our first impression was mixed as arrived to find long lines of people waiting to be checked in. While the offer of cookies and weak drinks was nice the problem is the front desk area is small, one of the few small things in this large property, and will not accommodate more than four people at a time so if you happen to arrive behind a bus load it is simply going to take a while - they don't have room to put more staff to work in such cases. Once you get to the desk check-in goes smoothly and the next thing you know they escort you to that room and are very quick to get your bags to you. Checking out was impressive with a bellman to pickup our bags within minutes of our call. We then had lunch and went to find our bags loaded in our car and the car parked right in front and ready to go.

Our room was nice with a large balcony overlooking one of the many pools on the property as well as a lagoon. While the room is nothing spectacular everything was in working order and it seemed well soundproofed and the curtains keep it dark so you can sleep late if you like . The bathroom while clean was small for a luxury property - small shower and an undistinguished separate tub. Two sinks but crowded together so we found it best not to both be using them at the same time.

While what it is true the staff in friendly and most go out of their way to be helpful we disappointed by the concierge. We sought information at the desk one two occasions and both times there were two people working which at a property this size means we waited and waited. The first time we did questioned the staff about a mangrove tour they offered one option that being the one connected to the property even though we made it clear we were looking for a time and date that option was not available. Our second try was no more satisfactory. A further failing was our calling Blue to change the date of our reservation. It all seemed easy until we arrive for dinner only to be told they had us down for the following night - our original reservation date.

The beach is nice with friendly staff taking good care of you. That said you don't have the option of swimming out to the reef in this location and you have to get use to three rows of lounge chairs the first row of which seemed to be occupied every morning though free in late afternoon. Don't expect quite solitude at the Ritz beach.

We had drinks in the lounge, dinner at Blue, and a couple of lunches. All were quite good but bargains are not to be found in any of them.

The Ritz is on one of the nicer parts of Seven Mile beach and if your looking for a large property in that location they will go a long way to meet your needs. With all the sand and guests I don't know how they keep it so clean but they do.

Finally while we did not use the spa the gym was very nice and the grounds are kept every bit as well as the common area inside the hotel.

Yes, it is expensive. I am not going to sugar coat it, but for the service you get and for how well kept the property is, it really is worth it if you can afford it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Not too far down the road, to your left when you exit the main entrance, is a grocery store, which is nice because you can get some beverages and snacks, which is much more affordable than say, room service or buying a bottle of water at the hotel. My wife and I really enjoyed the beach. We rented a cabana every day because we both have fair skin and burn easy. The beach staff was an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. They always refreshed our bucket with ice, (which you keep your water in to keep it cold), without asking. I had one gentleman, named Jared, who actually gave me very good advice on how to get more usage and better pictures out of my camera!

I don't know if he is still there as we went at the end of May in 2011, (the site would only allow me to choose as far back as April of 2012), but getting to know a gentleman named Vernon, who was one of the main beach staff personel, was one of the highlights of my trip. I looked forward to him coming over and talking with me every day he was working, during our stay. If he is still there, look him up and get to know him! Wonderful friendly and well trained staff!

I would recommed this hotel to anyone and would stay here over and over again if I were going to vacation in Grand Cayman.

Room Tip: Ocean view is awesome. I got to watch one of the best sunsets I have ever witnessed from our balcon...

The property is kept very clean. The beach is beautiful! The lounge chairs on the beach are very nice. We didn't use the pool at all, because the beach and ocean were amazing. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurants, but ate at a beach cocktail reception and the food provided by the hotel was very good. Drink prices are expensive, but it's the Ritz in Grand Cayman! We went down the beach about a 15 minute walk to a beach bar/restaurant called Calico Jacks and food and drinks there were very reasonable and it is a fun place to hang out. Also walked on the road about 20 minutes to an upscale shopping center called Camana Bay with very nice restaurants on a marina. Ate at Ortanique, very good! Our room seemed new and clean. It was pretty basic (thought shower seemed small & a trial size aloe vera for sunburn would have been nice.).Spa was nice, and the best part was being able to use the spa locker room, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi even when you were not getting a spa service. (Spa robes are heavy and rough.)The gym was nice. Loved the iced wash cloths at the gym, but the treadmills need fans or a fan near by. The service at the hotel was amazing. The staff used your name when speaking to you. They tended to your every need without being bothersome. The cleaning ladies were so very nice! When leaving the hotel, walking down the halls with our baggage everyone said goodbye and wished us a good trip home. Made me sad to be leaving!

The Ritz in Grand Cayman is a really beautiful place with great public areas and beach. We were fortunate to have one of the blue tip suites which was very spacious and comfortable. Yes, these suites are a bit of a walk ( about 130 normal strides from the elevator to get to the room) but there isn't crazy road noise like some of the other reviewers talk about. The only time the walk bothered me was in he morning to go and get a coffee. Since there are no coffee makers in the room it is a long walk to go down to the lounge each morning.

The staff is great and greet you warmly each time they see you.

The beach is really nice at the Ritz. We never had any trouble getting a chair and the beach servers live up to the Ritz service level expectation. There was a fairly significant storm while we were there and the Ritz was the only property that did a lot of work cleaning and regrading their beach. It seemed a little excessive at first while we watched the heavy equipment move the sand, but after walking a mile in each direction up and down the beach I have more appreciation for what they did to get rid of the seaweed and washed up coral.

Our stay at the ritz was tied to a work function, so we did not have to pay directly for our stay. I am not sure I could ever justify the cost to stay here on my own dime, but there are lots of people with money and the Ritz has figured out how to cater to these people extremely well. If money is not a concern, the Ritz is the place to go.

The staff was over the top wonderful. Every person we interacted with was knowledgeable, informative and went out of their way to help us. A five-star team.

You can't beat the location and the pools, beach, work-out facility and restaurants were all excellent.

The interior decors - especially the carpet - are worn. The carpets and flooring in general is uneven - beware if you are in a wheelchair or have any mobility issues.
