If you like a cozy lobby and bar, great food served family style, instant friends and a knowledgable staff then Pirates Point resort is for you. I've been going there for 10 years and the food has never been better. The divemasters are the best when it comes to helping you get geared up and showing you the sights. Most of the staff have been there for as long as I've been going. It may not be the Ritz, but it's worth every penny.

3 lights in our room, one broken plug, one broken switch. Dinner was salt. Breakfast waffle was golden brown outside, raw batter inside - what happens when you put pancake mix in a waffle iron. Boat captain quit . Gladys presides at meals talking about herself - loudly.
Pond with fish had crack and very low water, upsetting and cruel. There's more but I get angry when I remember. Way overpriced ! Extra charge for air conditioning.

piratept, Manager at Pirates Point Resort, responded to this review, 16 December 2010
Clearly this guest had a disappointing experience with us. We are sorry that our resort was not what they had in mind. As several other reviews note, we are a “special” kind of experience and not necessarily for everyone. We do try very hard to address guest’s issues and requests if we are made aware of them. We would have been happy to add more light to their room or repair any broken items had we known about them. Similarly if they had a problem with meals we would have preferred to know about it at the time when we could have tried to remedy the situation.

The fish pond did indeed have a crack in it and we were probably in the process of draining the pond in order to repair the crack. The fish that live in the pond have been part of the Pirates Point Resort family for a number of years and are in good health and well cared for. We should have put up a sign to indicate the reason for the low water and we certainly will, should that situation arise again.

As to one of our “captain’s quitting” we are a bit puzzled. If this guest was here in early January perhaps they are referring to a captain who we employ on a temporary permit Oct-Jan to help out during our busy holiday time. Pirates Point employs 3 full time USCG or RYA licensed boat captains, one has worked here 4 years, one 11years, and the third 23 years. The only thing we can gather, is this refers to the temporary captain who would have left when the permit expired in January.

We have 6 air-conditioned rooms on the property. 2 are considerably larger than the other rooms and there is a $10 per day surcharge on those rooms. We try to explain that to guests prior to their arrival so they can choose one of the 4 regular A/C rooms, which do not have a surcharge for A/C, if they wish.

Gladys Howard, the owner of Pirates Point, is celebrating her 25th year in business this year. Roughly 80% of our business is repeat guests many of whom come expressly because of Gladys. Yes she does preside at dinner, and as one of our guests you will get a chance to sit at her table at some point in your stay. Many people find it interesting and enjoyable to actually sit with the owner and learn how she found and built the resort; or what life was like on Little Cayman before there was power, or more than 3 flights in a week; or when there were 12 residents; or what it took for a single, middle aged woman with a vision and an enormous amount of drive and courage to find and create her dream.

Pirates Point is the manifestation of Gladys Howard’s vision, we try to be a dive resort with great diving and great food. We are sorry that littlesquaw42 had a different experience. As we said at the top, Pirates Point Resort is not for everyone, but if you read several reviews we believe you will be able to see what we have to offer and whether it is a good match for you.

My husband and I travel with another couple to dive resorts all over the Caribbean. Pirates Point Resort is a cherished highlight. The ocean front rooms allow for cool breezes and the lulling sounds of the surf. The dive masters are expert at finding and naming elusive sea creatures and creating a fun, relaxing environment. The schools of fish were the largest we have seen since Fiji and while we were only able to explore the north (and most famous) side of the island one day the coral formations and walls on the south side where breathtaking. What tips this resort over into one of the best we have been to, however, is the food. The dive package includes meals and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety of food they offered. This was despite their main Chef enjoying a vacation of his own. The staff even surprised us with a delightful birthday party for our friend including party hats! Of note: if you want air conditioning the ocean front cottages do not deliver, however the other rooms do. We did not feel the need for air conditioning with the breeze off the ocean.

This resort was great! We stayed with our 20-something kids on the beach in the family hut which had two rooms next to each other. It was rather rustic, but after a day or two, we got used to not having a TV in the room. After being there for a week, my kids actually commented on how nice it was just to play games, talk and be with each other without the distraction of the television. Food was incredible!! There are two chefs who work tirelessly all day preparing five star meals. And even though there are set meal times, the staff was very accommodating when we mentioned that we like to eat breakfast early before a dive. They gave us the run of the kitchen! There was also an open bar between the hours of 1-10 PM - we were able to come and make ourselves drinks which were included in the price. The last night we were there, we had sushi hor de ouvres at the owners house with champagne. Again, everything is included, so we felt we got quite a good deal. As far as diving, this was one of the best dive operations I have been with. Very thorough and safety minded. Every dive, the dive masters pointed out corals, fish, etc. They honored our every request. The Bloody Bay Wall is fantastic. Lots of sharks, turtles, baracuda, stingray and we even saw three sea horses! Swim throughs are great as well. I would recomment this place to anyone looking for a great dive vacation, good food and out of the way place. By the end of the week, we felt like family with the other guests and staff.

This is a remote, peaceful, and charming resort on a very small and barely inhabited island - with all the amenities one needs for really relaxing and for a great place to learn to scuba dive. Complete with eco-tours of iguana life, marine sanctuaries, research centers and the fabulous reefs of Bloody Bay Wall, a stay at Pirates Point is like no other! The dive instruction is impeccable, the ocean has 100% visibility and no current and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Gladys, the owner, is a delightful character who's greatest desire is to welcome, please and entertain her guests. I hope to go again with my family.

This resort is one of the finest places in the Carribean for having a good time, dining, and having a wonderful time. The food is superb and the owner, Gladys Howard, is attentive to everyone's personal needs. The staff are friendly and knowledgable and
do everything possible to insure you enjoy your stay. I have chosen to return to this resort year after year and highly recommend it to all my friends.

Me and my wife were debating several places for our vacation this year! We thought of Aruba, Belize or Grand Cayman. And because I was a Gold Member with Marriot , sure why not utilize my points.

And then there was Little Cayman, Pirates Point!
¬Should I, or should I not, should we or should we not!...
Hey the tripadvisor sounded pretty good…almost too good.
Afterall we are not divers, novice snorkelers…..yes.

We are looking for some serious R & R, no fighting for a beach chair or waking up at 6 am to put a towel over your beach chair etc…..

Now a few things to keep in mind……They do take children over 5 years of age. They especially do take the parents with children, when the parents have been here before they brought the children and know how we value our peace and quite!

The people we met were mostly professional. And more than half were repeat customers. I mean serious repeat customers…….several couples have been coming here for the past 12 – 17 years. Amazing! And after we experienced our first year…..we know why! This place has to be the best kept secret! A diamond in the ruff………….

The day we arrived our itinerary was Toronto to Atlanta, Atlanta to Grand Cayman, Grand Cayman to little cayman… we were quite tired and Night time with the windows open all you could here is the waves and the trees………

The next day we wanted to sleep in, so we missed the 8 am bell and showed up at 10:30 am. The kitchen staff greeted us and had breakfast made for us so it was nice to know that you were not on anyone’s schedule but your own.

but we soon found out that when the bell rings…..it’s chow time. (And it’s a good thing)

Nightlife………we did go out on a Thursday to 2 of the three bars and we had fun with our newly made friends from Pirates Point. Now do keep in mind that the island holds about 100 locals so this is not the big city nightlife. However we still had a ball, everyone was very friendly and it was a good experience.

Pirates Point was most definitely ( unquestionably), the best trip we have had thus far!

The staff are incredibly friendly, the food is by far out of this world.
