“Getting Around and Fine Dining”
Reviewed 29 November 2008

We stayed at the Timothy Beach Resort on St Kitts. Our review is posted. If arriving by cruise ship tour the Island 3 hours $75 US. A good tour may take 41/2 hours if you stop an view the Botancic gardens and the Old Fort, so expect to pay aroun $110 US. WE used a driver named Gloria. She spoke very clear english and had very pleasant dispostio Cel [-].

Also consider Nevis is 45 minutes by boat with freqquent departures aprox $25 US return.

The train is promoted on cruise ships probably because they get a cut on the ticket sales and don't get any portion of a taxi fare. The train departs from Airport and proceeds up the east side of the Island. The cost is very high and the secenery over the east side is nowhere near as nice as the more developed west side. Better to hire a cab and tour the west more beautiful side of the Island. Arrange for 2 couples to share a cab. If you wanted to see all the island including the south end close to Nevis will likely cost $140 but would be a solid 6 hour trip with many stops. Compare to train I thibnk around $75 per person and the cab tour is a bargain.

Whitehouse Beach with sunken wreck close to shore is good for Snorkling $20 US for taxi each way. Watch out for the rash and searing sting from the slimy coral, better access the water from the small sandy portion.

Nice intimate meal at the Beach House restaurant has only been opended since April/08. The Taxi will cost $25 US each way to there south end of Island location. The meal most expensive is Lobster of course with pre drink, decent wine from good wine list and desert around $175 but a very memorable night. Great attentive service great food prep, clean and good view over the water to lights of Nevis. A great way to celebrate an anniversay or engagement.

“St Kitts - a great vacation”
Reviewed 16 November 2008

We traveled to St Kitts Nov 8-15 of 2008. We stayed at the Marriott which is a beautiful resort and has all the amenities one can ask for. We are usually not ones for big commercial resorts but I do think it is one of the best spots on the island. Some of the plantations etc. might be more personal, but we had a great stay and had everything we needed for fun and relaxation at our fingertips. Pool, beach, daily activities, restaurants, casino, spa, etc.

Day 1- Took the sea bridge ferry (drove our car on) for $80 roundtrip to nevis for the day. We went around the whole island. Unfortunately we only had time to visit the nisbet plantation (amazing to stop for a drink and see the beach) and a place called coconut grove - a great lunch spot not too far from where the sea bridge drops you off. Please note that there are two ferries that go to nevis, one for passengers only and one for cars. We had the schedule for the passenger one and thought we wouldnt be able to go, but the sea bridge runs every other hour or so until a certain time - so just be sure you have the right schedule and location (we drove to the wrong ferry first time).

Day 2 and 3 - Scuba with pro divers was excellent. Saw some sharks, eels and lobsters. $105 each day for 2 dives. Not bad at all.

Day 4 - Horseback riding in the rainforest with trinity stables. VEry reasonable at $55 per person. Probably my best experience horseback riding in the carribbean and we've gone almost every time we visit an island. Horses were tame, great views, etc. It did pour down rain for the first half and we still had a great time! Later on, drove around the whole island of st kitts stopping at the brimstone hill fortress - a must see - the view is outstanding and only $8 per person.

Day 5 - Snorkel with Bluewater safaris. Great crew and boat. The snorkeling left a little to be desired as it was rocks and not reef. But we are probably more critical because we just went scuba diving where you see much more. Also, with the full day, you only get 1 scuba stop. So I would consider it much more a cruise than a true snorkel trip. Couldn't go to Nevis for the second half of the day due to damage from hurricane omar but they should start going back there soon. They usually go to sunshines. Instead, they took us to Raggae Beach which is a cool spot, but only a 5 minute drive from the Marriott so really not worth $85 per person to go snorkel a little and then visit that beach the rest of the day. But we still had fun. We called them wed. since our volcano hike wasnt going to happen on thursday (We called gregs safaris saturday, the day we arrived and he told us we may/may not go. Then we were told wed. he wasnt - not sure if it was weather/mud related or not). Bluewater told us they only had one full day tour available thursday and nothing on friday. Note limitations on tours - try to book ASAP when you arrive.

Day 6 & 7 - relaxed at the pool and beach at the Marriott which was wonderful. Did the free yoga class in the a.m. and visited the spa for a massage which was AMAZING and well worth the cost of $105 for 50 minutes because other spa amenities were including.

Dining Out for 2 people

-Blu at Marriott - 4 out of 5 stars - $134 for bottle of wine, shared appetizer, 2 meals
-La Cucina at Marriott - 4 out of 5 stars -Same price as blu for same food
-Royale Grill at Marriott - 5 out of 5 stars (and i dont even like steak much) although it was almost double the price of our other dinners at out $226 for bottle of wine, 2 dinners, and a shared dessert
-Ottleys plantation - 5 out of 5 starts. a bit of a hike to get to. The drive at night leaves you wonering if you driving on a dirt road into a jungle but dont be scared and turn back because it is well worth it. Dont recall the price but I think it was around $200
-Waterfalls - 3 out of 5 stars. Nice ambiance but food was just ok for the price. Not as expensive though - but still expected more for the $.
-Serendipity - 3 out of 5 stars - same as waterfalls. both were around $125 or so but food not great. My fiances dinner was better than mine though so maybe i didnt order right.

Bohemia pool bar and Calypso at the Marriott were both pretty good. Service at Calypso was a little off, but the food was good.

CAR - rented through thrifty, picked up at airport. Went smoothly.

“Total package”
Reviewed 8 July 2008

Let me start out by saying "me arm peets" which is Kittian for "OH MY GOSH!"..... We had the best 2 weeks ever and it all ended in love. Desperate to get to St Kitts we were delayed in Miami for 9 hours (avoid AA and Miami at all costs if possible) however we arrived very late that night. The taxi drivers will pounce on you so be prepared...it should be more than $5 per person to share a cab and head to the Marriott. We met a Kittian on the plane so getting through customs was quick and painless.

I will be writing, at a later time, the greatest love story of all time as a result of this vacation. My friend met and fell in love with the greatest gentlemen on the face of this planet and their St. Kitts/USA love story will be one for the ages.

Anyway - the Marriott is wonderful, staff is wonderful and the experience was wonderful. The taxis can be tricky however, ask them for their business card and that way you can always call the same taxi guy. Will cost about $10 each time you step into a taxi so be prepared because that actually ended up being one of the biggest expenses.

Restaurants: By far and large the BEST and most ROMANTIC place that is MUST is "Beach House" on the other side of the island AND "Ship Wreck". Ship Wreck is fun and relaxing and there is no way you could find it on your own so ask a local - it closes early so make sure you get there - it resembles Gilligans Island and is fun fun fun.

Must Do: Dance under the stars, four-wheel through the rain forest, the Fort and Bloody Point - there is alot of history here and these are a people filled with love and pride about their country and their fight for independence...

A piece of my heart was left in St Kitts for the people, the beauty and the peace of mind I got while being there. I highly suggest this island now because soon, developers will come in and build it up and ruin the natural beauty ~ as we say in Kittian - this vacation was BANG TIGHT!!

“Just back from St Kitts”
Reviewed 5 June 2008

We were on St Kitts 5/10 to 5/16/08. We chose it because we are from a tourist state and wanted something different. Boy we got something different. It really made me appreciate what we have in the states. The locals (not the cab drivers) don't get the benefits of tourist coming to their country. The female locals ar the worst. They never look you in the eye. They are not helpful and have the attitude that we are bothering them, One better note, it is a neat place to visit. Greg that has the rainforest tours is very passionate and really explains the unique ecosystem. Redsail Snorkling is great. They make you feel welcome. Dollar for dollar, right now, I would ralther spend my money in the USA. Maybe when the country gets a grip on the benefits of tourism it will get better.

“Don't go to St. Kitts!!!!”
Reviewed 20 January 2008

St. Kitts was a horrible experience. The locals are nasty. The food was terrible and the airport people do not follow security regulations. I was not safe coming in and out of the airport. The Marriott was beautiful but the locals that staffed the place were not so nice. I would go to Nevis instead. It is much nicer and I did not feel threatened in the town. Beaches were nice but there were no watersports. Not worth the trip and money...
