St Vincent is a friendly and interesting island, well worth the extra effort to get there and White Sands Villas is an excellent bolt hole. Our little cottage looked out over the inlet with the boats at anchor from the most wonderful verandah, which we basically lived on. Hiring a car is a good idea, but, as we wanted a relaxing holiday, we decided to use the dollar vans instead, a few minutes walk along the beach and up the hill. All of 2 $EC to get into town. Kingston is a scruffy friendly town with plenty to buy in the market. We made the decision to eat out at lunchtime and in at night, just to enjoy the verandah and the sounds of a Caribbean night, some nights also with fire flies. The Botanical Gardens are definitely worth visiting, but do go when there isn't a cruise ship in. We took a trip up the Windward side of the island with Sophie and Guy, a lovely, interesting day out, we especially enjoyed Guy's family's flower farm. It was also sad to see all the damage caused by the Christmas Eve flooding; as one Vincey we met from the north said, 'we had Christmas last year, but not a Happy one'. Sophie was always at the end of the phone (which she supplied) and made us feel at home. She suggested that we spend some time on Bequia aw well, which was a good idea as it was interesting to compare the island. We really do hope to return.
