“Poor service and bad experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

We stayed one night at Barefoot Suites and that is the last we'll spend there. The hotel staff showing us our room was not able to get the air conditioner working. When we asked for another room or if there was any way to fix it the short answer was "no, just open the windows." When I asked if there was the potential problem for mosquitos, because of no screening, they said "yes, there are mosquitos." The staff person did not offer us any bug spray nor mosquito netting.

The next morning my wife awoke (I didn't get any sleep due to the heat and mosquitos), with welts all over her body. I had some, but not near as many as I ended up trying to sleep on the sofa near the windows. We checked the sheets and noticed in horror what we could only surmise were bed bugs! We were scheduled to begin our sailboat charter that day so we left in a hurry.

One week later, after returning from a sailboat charter, we were supposed to spend the night again in the hotel before our flight the next day. When we told the hotel staff about our bad experience in their room and showed the welts all over my wife's body that were still red and puffy the hotel staff didn't even offer an apology or anything, claiming that it must have been something else. Their attitude was one of being "put off" by us.

We hope nobody else has to go through this experience there.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was the corner one overlooking the restaurant.

We are sorry that Jeremy was less than satisfied.

Our rooms are inspected by Government Health Inspectors twice a year and do not have "bed bugs". They are in fact spotlessly clean and the hundreds of guests who stay with us every year invariably comment as such. Your lady appears to have been bitten by sand flies.

Bug repellent was available but it's extremely hard for our Customer Service staff to respond adequately to guests who are arrogant, belligerent and rude.

All of our suites have quality furnishings. They are small but elegant and they are well priced. If your inaccurate posting raises misgivings, we are happy to provide references from current guests who will refute your comments.

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights a couple of months ago. We were initially attracted by the combination of great location, apparently good facilities, and extremely competitive price.

We were not disappointed one bit. Our room, although a tad small, was spotlessly clean, stylishly furnished, extremely comfortable and had a huge veranda that overlooked the Bequia Channel and also hammocks and comfortable lounging furniture. The room had a/c, cable TV, bathroom and fridge, and I'm still extremely surprised at how they keep the rate so low compared with other hotels just up the road, but they told us that that helps them keep their rooms well booked and indeed their rooms did seem to be full - but they have only half a dozen, so it never felt crowded.

It's not on a decent beach but their very friendly yachting staff (they have sailing yachts and also a sailing school) took us across the Lagoon in a dinghy to a great beach, and then picked us up a bit later - no charge. We also rented a kayak for an afternoon.

The restaurant was wonderful - again, really well-priced, and with a delicious menu with both Caribbean and Italian dishes - their fresh-baked thin-crust pizzas were to die for.

The staff were brilliant. So friendly, and nothing was too much for them. The ladies at their reception area reconfirmed our air flights, gave us internet access, organised two island tours at short notice and also arranged a taxi to the airport when we flew out.

If we're back in the area again, we'd stay there again without hesitation. It's not a big place but it's very personalised and fantastic value

Room Tip: We had Room Number Five which has spectacular views - but I'd be inclined to ask for Room Number...

My wife and I stayed at this place a couple of weeks ago and have to say that we were extremely impressed. Our suite had a great ocean-view veranda with lounging furniture ( and if you want you can borrow a hammock from their office staff), air conditioning, cable TV and very comfortable furniture. It was not a large room but very comfortable. The veranda looks right across Bequia Channel. Downstairs they have a fantastic Italian/Caribbean restaurant- we ate there several times and found the food just great and the price unexpectedly good and the staff were lovely. They also have an air-conditioned wine bar.its quite a small property but they have lots of facilities there-they rent yachts, have a sailing school, a water-sports place where you can rent kayaks and snorkel gear, a super boutique, a library, internet cafe' and a lot of other stuff. It was about 10 minutes from the airport and actually a very good place to explore the island from as they have transport.
We'd definitely stay there again when we go back

Room Tip: Ask if they have any specials on.We heard that they sometimes offer big late-booking discounts and t...
