What an amazing day we had touring the Tobago Cays and snorkelling with the turtles. Morning started with a wonderful breakfast and an introduction to the yacht with a safety lesson and thorough and professional explanation of what to expect on our day. We arrived to the turtle destination just as our Captain said we would, had a once in a lifetime experience snorkelling and back on board for a yummy lunch. The Captain and crew were fun, friendly and answered all of our questions about the area and the sea with pride. All of the facilities on the yacht were super clean and well maintained. Thank you so much for a memorable day. We would not hesitate to recommend your tour to any tourist lucky enough to visit Bequia!!

Fabulous day trip with Claire and Craig to Tobago Cays to swim with the turtles-could not fault a thing, clean boat, excellent breakfast and lunch,
Best rum punch ever, crew are friendly and lots of fun-if you only have time for one side trip make sure it is the octopus
The boat is older but having been a boat owner for years we feel this boat is very well maintained
Thanks Claire and Craig for a great memory of Bequia

We had a great trip to the Tobago Cays on the Octopus on Wednesday, 19 Feb 2014. There were 9 of us plus Captain Cutty, Craig & Jerome. It was rainy in the morning but cleared up before we reached the Cays. The colour of the water there is stunning. The snorkelling was great - turtles, rays, starfish, squid, and lots of fish. We were well looked after and well fed too: breakfast, lunch, a snack and drinks whenever we liked. The crew was great, the sailing was pure joy, and I enjoyed the stories about Captain Cutty's sailing adventures - would have liked to have heard more. I absolutely loved the trip and consider it the high point of our visit.

Here's my husband's contribution:

A day in the life of The Octopus, by Barclay

Twas Wednesday morn at the crack of dawn the sleepy group did gather
Captain Cutty surveyed us all and proclaimed there’s rain in the weather

Soon aboard the beautiful sloop, we headed for the Cays
The wind came up, the rain came down, as we tossed around the seas

Two sailors fell ill and both took a pill, to ease their queasy feeling
and one brave soul astride the bow had her spirits reeling

The weather did break as the Cays we did make, the sunshine lifted our feeling.
The turtles were abundant, starfish lit up the bottom, the parrot fish were brilliant and the ray made the day

Back on board for a hearty lunch,
washed down with wine and fruit punch

Flying fish and maybe tuna were spotted as home we began to sail
The weather wasn’t finished with us as the rain and wind began to wail

Now at home, firm ground at last, the experience begins to fade,
but, once in a while we begin to smile at the great memory the Octopus has made.

When our planned trip on the Friendship Rose was cancelled because of motor trouble we were fortunate to find the smaller more intimate Octopus. The all inclusive day started at 6:30 with a continental breakfast as we left the port. Clare and her crew treated us to a fabulous day to Tobago Cays. Despite some heavy rains we had a great day of sailing and were treated to wonderful food and drink, good conversation and wonderful snorkeling. There were 8 of us plus the crew. Clare was a great host who attended to all of our needs. We would definitely recommend this day to anyone interested in experiencing a day of sailing in the Grenadines aboard a safe sailing boat and with a very competent crew!

The Tobago Cays are one of our favorite anchorages in the Caribbean for snorkeling and relaxing on a boat. We recently had a very enjoyable motor sail there on board the Odysea which started out with a continental breakfast and included an excellent cold lunch of chicken salad, rice salad, tomato salad, cucumbers etc. Wine was included.
The reef off the small sandy beach where we were dropped off was mostly dead coral but there were some fish there but there was some swell. On the inside of the beach however we were treated to sea turtles and rays which were not at all spooked by us. That alone was worth the trip. A trip to the outer reef resulted in many more fish and much more color but there is a more significant swell with waves breaking over the reef. You will need to be able to get back in the dinghy while in deep water so one needs to be comfortable in the water but it is not dangerous.
Now for the bad. It is a four hour trip each way from Bequia, most of it in open ocean with three to four foot waves during the tradewind season. If you are susceptible to motion sickness take something beforehand and don't plan on reading.
And finally, Odysea is a 62 foot 35 year old boat which has lived a hard life in the Caribbean and is showing her age. Having lived on my own boat in the Caribbean for a winter I know how difficult and expensive maintenance is. If you are a sailor or boat owner she is not up to yacht
standards. Odysea does not show like a late model Swan or Oyster.
