We had the roti (eggplant) and our friends had the hamburgers. Three of us had the toasted coconut ice-creams. It is a simple menu, and they present it very well, indeed. We were all very pleased by every aspect of the meal. The service was charming and thoroughly competent; the food was nicely presented and tasty, and the view of beach and bay was simply stunning. The owners were hosting, and one never lost the sense that you were at a lovely, family place. We liked it so much that we have signed on to stay at the Sugar Reef next March!

We were staying in a villa above Sugar Reef and spent three lovely afternoons at this charming beachfront restaurant. Not only does Sugar Reef offer some of the best food on the island the decor and the service is lovely and the gracious hosts allowed us to use their beach chairs and kayak free of charge. The prices are reasonable for the value they provide.

This beach is my favorite on the island as there are normally only a handful of people and you really get that desert island feeling (with the luxury of a good restaurant right behind you!)

Don't let the location, out of "town", stop you from visiting the Sugar Reef. The setting is magnificent and if you are not lucky enough to be staying in one of the rooms, we'd recommend visiting for lunch so you can soak up the beautiful beach side scenery and barefoot elegance.
The service was impeccable and the food fresh and delicious. Our party all ordered the roti with side salad, and the house specialty rum punch, followed by local fruit crumble and ice cream. We took along our swim suits for a walk along the beach (all beaches are public) and post lunch swim. Sugar Reef is also enroute to the Hegg Turtle Sanctuary if you want to make a half day outing of the trip but not too early as they only open at noon.

One of two great places to have a meal on the windward side of Bequia. We have been coming to Bequia for years and watched this place morf. Prior visitors may remember it last as Dawn's after she moved from Lower Bay. Emmet and his wife Heather have taken it over and transformed it into a real "must go to". They have cleaned everything up whitewashed all the walls, installed some of the greatest island decorations you ever want to see and combine this with an outstanding view and easterly wind, it is a tough gig to match. The owners have employed a seasoned hospitality couple, Devon and Christine, (last known to transform a property in Grenada) to run and manage the place including only three lodging rooms for now on property. Being in the hospitality business we recognized their touch immediately. Best of all the the "smile" behind the bar, Stephen. This guy need to duplicate himself and work for most of the places on the island. The food was excellent with very nice presentation. Ironically, we ran into the chef at Knights on Back Street several days later and she could than not been more gracious and personable. Cannot remember her name but we will get it next time. We could not view any of the rooms because they were all occupied-word gets around fast. GREAT JOB ALL! DON'T MISS IT.
