Great location away from the hustle of town. Nice quiet place to retreat back to after a day out and about.

“Great home, views and snorkelling on a great island”

We loved our stay at Palm Trees. The views from the deck with it's hammock are incredible. Everything you could possibly need and a little more besides. Sparrow beach a short walk away is great for snorkelling if you are patient. We saw rays, lobster, puffa fish and more types of tropical fish than you can shake a stick at. Diana the owner a very caring host who gave us lots of insight to make the most of our stay. Get down to Deefer diving and do some dives. Amazing soft coral reefs in superb condition. Talk to Matt or Caitlin at Deefer. Deefer can also arrange a trip to the Tobago Cays. A highlight of our trip and we were lucky enough to spend half an hour snorkelling with 8 baby black tip reef sharks. Epic. Bogles round house a must for a great meal and the pizza joint "Pizza Me Heart" in Winward definitely worth a trip for a takeaway.

Thank you Richard for sharing your many high-spots of your recent family holiday at Palm Trees. It is always a pleasure for both Stenna and myself helping guests to get the most of their precious holiday. You certainly seem to have packed in a lot into every hour of every day. You even made it to magical Tobago Cays and swam with baby sharks! However, I'm glad you also made some time to enjoy relaxing in the hammocks on the veranda at Palm Trees, just letting your eyes feast on the ever changing colours in the sky and sea, and drinking in the multi-coloured amazing sunsets. Some of my favourite moments are standing on the veranda looking at the rays of the full moon reflecting off the sea. A beautiful white owl also graced us with her presence one night as she flew by without a sound.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

“Beautiful escape”
Reviewed 20 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We spent 8 lovely nights at Palm Trees and would go back in a heartbeat. The house has everything you could need, clean, spacious and welcoming. The veranda offers breathtaking views that money can't buy and is peaceful to sit out day or night. The house is a 2 minute walk to the beach which you have to yourselves most of the time, I think we only saw other people down there 1 day!

Would definitely recommend and can't thank Diana and all her staff for everything!

The gardens even popped up with coconuts from the gardens for us.

It really is a peace of paradise.

Dear Holly,
Thank you for this glowing review of your stay at Palm Trees, especially as I know you are a regular visitor to Carriacou, so you know what other places have to offer. There isn't much that Stenna doesn't know about the island, and she is always happy to help in any way she can to make your holiday 'special.' We like to think that Palm Trees is unique in the quiet location - yet only 10 minutes from town - the fantastic views in every direction, quick access to the sandy beach and well maintained tropical gardens and fruit trees and guests are invited to pick any ripe fruit. I'm very glad you got to enjoy the coconuts!
I'm sorry you missed out on the opportunity to help release baby turtles into the sea as you were out that evening. We look forward to welcoming you back next year.

“Perfect Private Getaway on a Beautiful Island”
Reviewed 23 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Palm Trees is a perfect getaway, whether there are two of you or 5 of you. There is a large double bedroom with an en-suite shower and wc; a single room; and a double futon in the living area. There's an additional shower/wc separate to the living area. There's a lovely kitchen area that is fitted out with everything - and more - that you might need, even down to a mixer and nutmeg grater for your rum punch and pina coladas! My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of staying in Palm Trees for 2 weeks and it has a 230 degree view of the sea from it's wonderful verandah. There's 2 hammocks, 2 sets of tables and chairs for eating outside, and having a wake up call of the waves coming onto the beach and the local birds is just perfect. Diana and Stenna were absolutely fantastic with all their advice and knowledge of the island is supreme to anything we've had before (normally just a visitor book with a few leaflets - which Palm Trees has in addition to all the personal knowledge that they have). We truly appreciated all their help and support to ensure that we made the most of our time on Carriacou. We felt Palm Trees is a home-from-home area and one of my favourite things is Diana's invented solar heated water for washing your feet when you get back from the beach (a large water bottle!). Although there isn't air conditioning - it's a much better experience to be able to leave the lounge doors open at night when you're still up as there are full length net curtains. There are also fans in each room that can be used at night, as well as mosquito nets over the beds.

The beach is beautiful and is only a 2 minute walk down the road a little and then down some steps past a small cemetery (strange location for a cemetery!). You normally have the beach to yourself, but watch out for the "no-see-ums" sandflies and protect yourself with a insect repellant that has at least 50% deet and use this at day and night. This isn't an inconvenience, it is a tropical area after all. You can snorkel from the beach and my hubby saw a very large ray when he was out snorkelling and managed to creep upon a heron-like blue bird. We also went to Paradise Beach where we got a water taxi from "Off the Hook" beach bar/bbq -which is on the beach -to Sandy Island where there is amazing shallow snorkelling.

Shopping on Carriacou is interesting. The main town is Hillsborough and there are a few mini-supermarkets, we ended up going to nearly all of them to get what we needed. Word of warning, if you have dietary requirements (gluten intollerant for example) take some food with you as that type of food is very limited on the island. There is Pati's Deli which has some "international"-type food - mozarella cheese, fresh milk, sorrento ham and I did manage to get gluten free cheese crackers and flour. Just a thought that's all. If you want fresh fish, get to the fish market in the morning and negotiate a price for cleaning and preparing the fish - you pay once for the fish itself and then for the cleaning and preparation.

We flew from Gatwick and it was a 10.5hour flight but it was bearable and we were looked after very well on the flight and on arrival at Grenada (I am disabled). We got the Osprey Ferry from St George's to Hillsborough in Grenada.

Overall, we would highly recommend Palm Trees as the perfect getaway destination and home and could easily imagine ourselves living there enjoying the relaxing sounds and atmosphere. Many thanks again to Diana and Stenna for ensuring that our holiday was extremely enjoyable and our best holiday ever! Thank you, thankyou, thankyou - and we will be back!!!

Dear Gail,
Thank you very much for your very positive review of Palm Trees, Carriacou. Both Stenna and I are very pleased to know that our little personal touches helped to ensure you had your 'best holiday ever!' And my home-made low-key solar water heater - taking advantage of 12 hours free sunshine - amused you!! As you know, my parents loved Carriacou and spent most of their married life there, and I spent my first five years there, and lots of holidays with our children. We feel that Carriacou is a very special place because it is so small it has escaped the mass-tourism market of many of the bigger islands, and retains the small-island, 'family-feel' as almost anyone you speak to is related to at least 50 other people on the island. Personally, I believe this contributes significantly to the very low crime rate on the island, and its just wonderful to be able to sit on Palm Trees veranda in the evenings and do a bit of stargazing, or tracking the International Space Station, without a worry in the world. Having half a mile of sandy beach and safe sea-bathing only 2 minutes away, is an extra bonus. Well done to your husband for spotting a large ray. I usually just see lots of baby fish which stay in the 'shallows' trying to escape being eaten as lunch! I'll have to look harder next time.
Thank you again for choosing Palm Trees for your holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

“Superb Location, Wonderful Views, Close to a Good Beach & Excellent Value”
Reviewed 1 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Palm Trees sits on a bluff & has the most amazing panoramic views from the wrap-around broad, covered veranda across the sea to the western end of Carriacou in one direction & across the sea to the North and to Union Island beyond.
We have now visited Carriacou many times (it must be 24 times now!) in December\January & have just returned from another 3 week visit.
Since 1995 we have always tried to stay in Palm Tress when it has been available & cannot recommend the property highly enough & such good value as well.
It is the perfect size for 2 persons or even a small family or friends. It has most of the utensils & appliances that anyone would need to self cater & the owner ensures that there are some basic supplies already there, such as condiments, spices, rice, flour, cling film, tin foil etc.
Most of the house is screened and it relies on the pleasant trade winds to provide a breeze through for comfort. If the wind fails there are several good sized fans for cooling.
In the separate main bedroom there is a good shower, WC & washbasin. Further sleeping space is provided by a single bed in a separate room & a futon in the main sitting area, there is also another separate bathroom with shower, WC & washbasin too.
Mosquitoes can sometimes be a bit of a pest (just like anywhere in the tropics) and mosquito nets are provided for the beds.
We find that using Deep Woods “Off Spray” available locally provides the best protection & had very few bites at all.
The nearby beach is only 2 or 3 minutes stroll & whilst we were there we mostly had it all to ourselves.
Carriacou is a fantastic island with very friendly people. It is definitely not a “touristy” place although there are plenty of activities to enjoy for visitors.
There are many places to eat out but it's always worth checking what they are serving & reserve beforehand. We mostly prepare our own meals & it takes a while to get used to what is available in the stores (sometimes it is dependent on when the boats bring fruit & veg supplies in).
In Hillsborough there is an excellent small fish market (remember to take a couple of bags with you). You can have it cleaned & prepared for you. If you ask for the fish to be filleted be aware that you will also get the head & bones (the locals use these to made fish broth or soup).
Many people hire a car, but we like to use the local mini buses which adds to the experience of being on Carriacou. A 10 minute easy stroll from Palm Trees takes you to the man road & when you see a mini bus hold your arm out. It takes about 5 minutes to get into the main town of Hillsborough – fares are currently EC 2. Taxi to town from Palm Trees is EC 25.
If you are seeking sophistication you won't find it here, no burger bars or coffee shops but you will get a warm welcome & a real Caribbean experience & in Palm Trees a very homely feel.

Thank you "Morethanatourist,"
You make me want to get on the next flight and stay at Palm Trees myself!
After 24 visits to Carriacou, most of them staying at PT, you must be something of experts. You have summed up the house and the Carriacou experience very well, and it will help any prospective holiday makers to decide if the laid-back, low-tech holiday that Palm Trees and C'cou offers, is what they are looking for. As you say, there are no coffee shops, no traders or ice-creams for sale on the beaches, just hot sun, warm sea and glittering sand - and most of the time a beach all to yourself.
We look forward to welcoming you back next/this year.

The Palm Trees House was awesome.
My wife, best friend and I stayed at the Palm Trees House in early November for 6 nights
The accommodations were very comfortable. The veranda is gorgeous, spectacular views morning, noon and night. And the view from the master bedroom shower is unbelievable!
Diane and Stenna were kind, Informative and helpful. Sparrow Beach (2 minute walk) was perfect. Mostly deserted, great snorkeling, lots of fish and lobsters just off shore. Plenty of shell and sea glass hunting. The Palm Trees is a great location do get away from the stresses of daily life.
The people of Carriacou are friendly and kind. We rented a car from “Wayne’s Garage in Hillsborough. You have to get a local driver’s license but it was easy and reasonable. It was easy to get around. Hard to get lost, there was always a friendly face to point us in the right direction. We made a number of friends and look forward to our next visit. We had a phenomenal dinner at the Round House and a great day boating and snorkeling with Ms. Allison, ‘Isle of Reefs’ tours.
Until next time, safe travels
Wayne

Dear Wayne,

I'm so glad you all had a good holiday and found that the advertising lived up to the experience. Every window or door you look through has a fantastic view and having Sparrows Bay to yourself with half a mile of sandy beach, safe swimming and good snorkelling is a bonus. I think the Kayaks (residents of Carriacou) are genuinely the most friendly, helpful and honest people I have ever met - nothing is too much trouble to help a stranger. And on an island 7miles x3, I think you could really say it is impossible to get lost! We are all glad that Roxanne is back and Round House is open again.

As great as the daytime views at Palm Trees are - even from the shower - try to make your next visit over full moon as the moonlight shimmering on the sea is just magical - recently made even more so by a white owl gliding majestically by, in total silence.

We look forward to welcoming you back before too long, and in the meantime, please keep in touch and we wish you Happy Thanksgiving!

“Homely and unpretentious with stunning views”
Reviewed 20 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Anyone going to Carriacou is already in a relaxed mindset - you know you're not going to get nightclubs and bars in every street corner; this is an island of families and communities. Palm Trees is a continuation of that mindset. The pictures from previous travellers say it all - over 180 degree views over sea, sunset and ships, but what they don;t convey is the constant and gentle sound of the sea, banishing any last vestiges of stress which may be lingering from your journey here. The owner has left no stone unturned, from a grater complete with nutmeg to garnish your rum punch, fascinating books about the island and its characters, a housebook with every possible detail crossed and dotted, and a lovely, kind lady to meet and greet you. I recommend taking plenty of Mozzie spray (although the house owner has supplies of these in the house, guests normally leave their stocks for future guests, as if to continue the spirit of homely generosity. No AC means you have to acclimatise quickly, but this is easy as there are always cooling breezes running through the house ( long sliding doors to the verandah from two of the rooms) as well as plenty of fans. Hot water from the two showers is instant and the wi-fi had a good connection when we were there. All boxes ticked. We found ourselves cutting short our days to get back to the house for the sunsets. We just loved it.
If hiring a jeep, make sure you get a decent four-wheel drive as the sloping drive can be a challenge in wet weather. I recommend Wayne Bullen when booking with the owner, or you can book direct with him. A taxi from the airport can also be prebooked and costs 35 EC dollars ( about 10 GBP).

Dear Maggie

Thank you for your kind and generous review of Palm Trees. I concur completely with your opinion that it is unpretentious and homely – and deliberately so. I want my guests to relax when they walk in the door and feel right at home, rather than being in a soul-less hotel which is much the same anywhere in the world. Not only do we provide a nutmeg grater, but sugar, rice, pasta, cooking oil, herbs, sauces etc are all shared with our guests to make life easy if they want to do some cooking - what could be nicer than fresh fish – straight from the sea.

The view is undoubtedly the star of the show, and as you say, the magnificent sunsets and the sound of the lapping waves are the icing on the cake. The mozzie situation does vary hugely from one week to another, and when we were there in October we hardly saw any, but heavy rains provide puddles for them to breed, so yes, I do try and suggest to guests that they take spay containing 40-50% Deet. However, as you say, I do always leave a couple bottles of Deet out for guests in case they forget to take.

I must admit I’ve never used 4 wheel drive to get up our short drive, but we do have a sturdy jeep. Regarding the taxi, we ask guests to let our local manager, Stenna, know their arrival times, and she will always send a taxi driver who knows Palm Trees to collect you. Stenna will meet you at Palm Trees and make sure you are happy with everything. As I say, my mantra is to go the extra mile or two, and we do all we can to make guests feel relaxed and help them to enjoy every minute of their precious holiday at Palm Trees. Thank you for confirming that we have largely succeeded.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon,
Diana
